From the Knicks offer, I certainly think that some package of Taj Gibson, Omer Asik, James Johnson, Bobcats first rounder, and four Bulls first rounders might get it done. I hope that Paxson is actually on the phone, trying to work something out at the last min.

Can one team even trade that many of their own first rounders? Four picks seems way over the top. You still need more to make the salaries work also.

But either way...I pass...

Obviously they can't trade four of their own picks. 3 are from other teams.

It usually takes more time for big men to develop than for backcourt players. I was refering to that.

Chris Broussard
Sources say NJ in talks w/Den to send 2 1st round picks to Den for Mozgov & either Gallinari, Chandler or Felton, if Melo traded to NYK

NJ-Den trade for NYK players would not be 3-way with NYK; it would be 2 separate deals

Too Funny. Denver and NJ had this planned out.

You can't send two players who've been traded together after you just acquired them.

Yeah but you can make Mozgov and one of Chandler or whomever two separate deals rather easily. It's just semantics.

Fair enough, so if this is true in any way, the Knicks are making the Nets better in a Melo trade.

Knicks fans would kill themselves if Gallo became an All-Star for the second team in town

That last bit about the Nets makes a lot of sense!

I think that's what's going on. 'Melo wants NY. Denver is willing to make NY sweat to see if they can get him in the offseason with the new CBA. NJ knows that 'Melo doesn't really want them, but would take him. The Russian really wants the other Russian, plus some players.

So they are driving up the value.

Denver wants Curry's contract, Mosgov, Felton, Chandler, one of Gallinari/Fields, and two picks for 'Melo and Billups. It's actually a fair trade - Chandler is gone, I like Fields better than Gallo but both look like solid, but not star, players. Felton is a longer term upgrade for Billups, but for this season it's a lateral move. Mosgov is a project, and the two picks will be mediocre (if they can even get two). But NY would get by far the best player in the trade.

But for Denver, especially if it's Gallo and Chandler (as opposed to Fields), shipping one off to NJ for salary filler and a first, along with maybe a Felton/Harris swap, makes a lot of sense. And it helps NJ, too, which is lacking at SF as Outlaw has been a huge bust.

Also, don't knock Dr. Genius. While the Bulls aren't trading Deng, if they were, I'm sure Cleveland or Toronto would spend their trade exceptions, plus a first round pick, for Deng right now.

So: salary space, plus Charlotte pick, plus new protected pick, plus a Bulls pick, plus Taj, plus JJ, plus CJ for say Anthony Carter and Melo... that's 2 likely good firsts, one bad one, plus a guy who is the equivalent of a Gallo in Taj and who the Nuggets could use, plus a project 3, plus a backup PG....

It's not a terrible offer - competitive with the other two. But, at the same time, it's not going to happen because the Bulls aren't moving Deng.

I was wondering what Denver would do with all those SFs. Gallo, Chandler, and Brewer in the 1st deal, and supposedly Budinger in the Nene follow up. They are going to have to find so bigs, so maybe that is the salary filler, in the NJ deal?

I'd kiss the Nets owner on the mouth right now if I saw him. He is absolutely jobbing the Knicks (allegedly).

NY wants Melo, well NJ is going to make sure they pay for him. Then they are going to take the players NY sent to Denver, and just ship them over to NJ.

THis makes the league a hell of alot more fun when there is a crazy (like a fox) Russian involved.

Huh? We don't have 3 first rounders from other teams. I'm not referring to any trade besides the one Genius proposed for the Bulls.

Anyway, I kind of remember that you can't trade more than 2 of your own picks. Is this true?

Pretty much NJ and Denver vs NY here. They are either trying to:

1. Knicks to completely end any Anthony talks so he will have no choice but to go to NJ if he wants his money

2. try to rape the Knicks so they can work out a few trades together with the Knicks' assets

I hope both Felton and Fields go to Denver. Billups is aging and their backcourt will be horrendous with no assets to improve it. Super team my ass

I must say this Russian guy is genius if they suceed with this. The Nets had no chance of getting Melo from the very beginning and he has managed to get the Knicks to up their offer out of the roof.

And of top of that he is getting one or two of their young players(one of them being Russian).

And that is not all. He is rubbing it in the face of the Knicks fans openly admitting he is happy with Knicks raising their offer and with his involvement in that one.

I LOVE IT!!!! :D As a fan who thinks that some owners in big markets can hold their fans hostage for the simple fact that they are a big market team (Donald Sterling, Jerry Reinsdorf) and fans have no other option, I love that the Nets are finally providing the Knicks with some healthy competition. That russian knows what he is doing. Why in the world do the Knicks deserve the right to have a monopoly on professional basketball is such a huge city like New York?

Great job by the Nets!!!!

It will never happen, but I dream of a second NBA (and NFL) team coming to Chicago. Competition always brings out the best.

I love it!!! Almost makes me want to go buy a Nyets jersey if this can all play out like that! It's so brilliantly great!

I loved the Nets billboard outside of the MSG offices as well. He is definitely creating some anxiety inside the Knicks organization.

The best part of all of this will be when Eddy Curry talks about looking forward to a fresh start in Denver.

"I never felt like Coach D'Antoni gave me a fair chance. I think he just decided I didn't fit into the uniform, I mean the system, and that was that. I've been working hard to get into shape, and I'm looking forward to getting some playing time."
