We're so impatient these days. Just think back in the 18th century- they probably took weeks to gather all the votes and compile them....

I don’t think that’s the issue, at least not for me. It’s that they managed to total up 4 million votes in one night and 48 hours later, they’ve added up 30,000. What is everyone doing? You’d think they’d want to find out who won!

And 3 weeks back then was like, 0,1% of their life expectancy, so yikes!

Re: OT Election Thread
Here in Brazil we have the results 5 hours after ballots close.
In 7 hours, the first call for impeachment reaches the majority leader.
And in 9 hours the new government has already bought everyone out and they're now planning how to raise taxes even more.

The snails pace of counting the votes is annoying, but this is the first time we've had this many mail in votes. Maybe they'll be better prepared next time.

Biden doesn't have a commanding lead.
Biden's lead has been shrinking since election night and not growing.
The percentage of votes Trump needs to carry (55%) is less than the percentage of votes Biden needs to carry in PA/GA/NC (66%+) which they didn't call.
Not saying Biden won't win Arizona, but there's no reason that we shouldn't feel it is in play relative to the other states we are considering in play.
Agreed. Calling AZ for Biden as early as they did was very risky to say the least. I think Joe is going to hold on there. But it’s going to be close. Perhaps even closer than NC, which hasn’t been called yet. Fortunately, it’s looking more and more like it won’t matter when all is said and done as it really looks like Biden is going to snag at least one of PA or GA. Both of which would offset any potential comeback in AZ.

I'm with Doug. Don't really care for or like Biden. Just would rather him than Trump by a large margin.

Georgia, is now essentially tied. It may flip tonight. It's less than 2000 votes apart.

I'm hoping that Biden's speech issues don't limit his ability to connect with disenfranchised Americans. I didn't like the guy much either, though I honestly wasn't much deadset on any of the Democratic aspirants. I do hope that he can manage to make great gains in our environmental and climate control initiatives, which I think is a damn fine way to start his presidency (along with, all hope, significant Covid vaccine, treatment and testing programs).

Re: OT Election Thread
Late last year, probably in October or November I went to bar with a few friends who have been divorced. One of the guys met a pretty lady, and they moved off into a corner of the bar. Things were looking to be going pretty good for a few hours between the too of them, and I even saw a few kisses exchanged. Then suddenly she got up from the table and rapidly stomped out of the bar.
He came back to our table looking defeated while we were all laughing. We then asked him what went wrong? He said "She asked me my political stance and I told her, She did not like it"..... We all had a good laugh at his expense, lol.
It seemed pretty petty to me. Several of the females and males in my direct family have different opinions on the party they support. It never causes any fights. We just don't talk politics at family gatherings, and only amongst ourselves who we know are on the same side.

After this 4 year debacle, hopefully they can appreciate having a president that isn't constantly embellishing/pandering/selling/lying and can actually show true empathy and articulate a semi-complex thought without talking in circles.
My concern with Biden isn't with his speaking or cognitive abilities, but whether he has the focus and stamina to do the job over the long haul. I also wouldn't be surprised if the daily stress along with natural aging related issues start taking a heavy toll within the first year or two.

Re: OT Election Thread
I never hated Trump like others here, To me he is just a guy full of himself who was used to having his way. He was never meant to be a smooth talking Politician.
When I get together with friends, I have often heard much worse, and I'm sure most of you have too. (I agree that type of talk is not Presidential, and I do not endorse it).
The bottom line is were all the same. "We all want equal opportunity, We all want to be able to provide for our families, And most of us want to live a peaceful life without government interference".
My thing is that I do not trust either party, and want as many outsiders to get involved as possible. I believe career politicians carry too much political party baggage,
Career politicians side with whatever political party they grew up in and have already been bought and sold. They have no concern towards the average American's point of view,
In the future, I would like to see more outsiders running for office with fresh new idea's, and not re-runs from, past regimes.

It might not be as pronounced as Trump but don't worry, Biden will get around to those things too. The only one of those you'll get is empathy as he lies, embellishes and sells us out. I don't think anyone has ever thought of him as an articulate and complex thinker

That's where I'm at. Just because Trump is a major POS, isn't going to fool me into thinking Biden isn't a corrupt dirtbag too. He's one hell of a politician though. Great at convincing people he cares about them. But, yeah, compared to Trump, he's Mother Theresa.

I liked Bloomberg, liked Yang (not his policies (would never pass) but his ideas). There were better options. I never understood why we have so many corrupt bad politicians. Shouldn't the goal be finding the better possible options out there.
Ultimately after 4 years I see Biden letting alot of people down. Alot of false promises but if he can bring this nation back together and unite the other party, it's very possible people will remember that and people even on the republican side may vote for him a 2nd term. If I am him, my #1 goal is to heal this country and do whatever it takes to end this madness, fix covid-19 and bring everything back together.

You don't need to be a slick-talking politician to not put fascists, and nazi's in the Whitehouse. You don't need to be a slick-talking politician to take a pandemic seriously and listen to health experts.
Then you bring up equal opportunity, families and peaceful life without government interference. That's fine except one party has clearly been against LGBTQ and women's rights for years. One party wants to continue to needlessly cut taxes. One party says we shouldn't fill a supreme court seat in an election year. Then barely before RBG's body is even cold, let's fill her seat in an election year. One party just had two members elected to congress who espoused Qanon conspiracies.
This both sides are the same stuff needs to stop.
Losing to get high draft picks and hoping they turn into franchise players is not some next level, genius move. That's what teams want to happen in any rebuild/tank or whatever you want to market it as.
