I am not a "we're overreacting" guy. I completely support limiting large gatherings...completely responsible. However, available evidence shows extremely low occurrence rates among children and ordinary flu-like (or lower) mortality rates. The school closings have their own unforeseen consequences, like parents losing their jobs by having to stay home with their children. Given how gentle COVID-19 has been on children, are the school closings really in the best interest of families?
Uhm. As a part-time teacher who is not a child, I'm not interested in teaching children who are carriers but immune to the virus. I'd rather take the hit and live off savings for a month.
And I realize not everyone has that luxury. Which leads me to my next point ; every normal 1st world country is taking measures to take care of its citizens in crisis. I see that Trump is trying to secure the work force with a tantalizing tax cut and injecting money into wall street. Completely bonkers (just freeze the economy you dip****).
There are so many TEMPORARY economic solutions for times like that. Between short-term work allowance, banning supply exports ("to highest bidders"), financial relief packages both to companies and citizens... Yeah, it's that scary word "socialism", which frankly works when **** hits the fan. These GOP capitalist-clinger extremists are just as bad as the full-on communists. It's not a matter of ideologies, it's a matter of flexibility, crisis management and common sense.
