Cap gurus and CBA experts is the below trade legal.

If NY refuses to engage the Bulls in a S&T and we can't find a 3rd team to take Boozer; can the below trade happen?

Get Orlando or Utah to S&T Melo at the 4yr/$96mm contract amount to the Bulls.

Bulls amnesty Boozer, then send Dunleavy, Randolph and the non-guaranteeds to Orl or UTH, along with our pick in 2015 and the SAC pick as compensation for doing us a solid?

I think the most we could start Melo at in this scenario would be close to $20mm, this is essentially the Deeks trade but with Orl or UTH facilitating the deal of NY doesn't want to cooperate. This could force NY to play ball if Melo says he wants the Bulls.

The problem for the ESPN Sportscasters is they cannot go too technical on the cap as the audience and even the anchors will tune them out. Some guys here like Bad Knees are awesome because they are being creative and going into a lot of detail.

I do think the challenge for ESPN is they need an idea to latch on and they have to package it in a presentable way without losing the audience.

Bulls fans what do you think about this from the Knicks board

If we work with Chicago, then the IDEAL package is..

Boozer + Mirotic + McDermott + 2015 first + SAC 2015 fist + 2017 first + a couple of second round picks + Jimmy Butler

for

Melo (and JR if we can make it work under cap).

Chandler Parsons & Lance Stephenson, then Paul Pierce, then Ariza, then whole load of crap. (Hayward is getting matched by Utah - he isn't available.

I think Houston will resign Parsons at any cost if they strike out on Melo too. I don't know what to think of Stephenson. He could be on the verge of being an all-star or he could end up being a really bad contract. I like Ariza because he is sharpshooter. Pierce would good if limited him to around 20 minutes a game and let him take games off so he'd be fresh for the playoffs.

Stephenson might be the guy to gamble on because we need a second creator and he is solid there. Pierce is cheaper though and he can create as well, plus would allow us to sign Mirotic this year.

These media reports are just for tv sensation.

And Melo knew exactly how much the Bulls have available - and still scheduled the meeting.

Exactly. They make it seem like the Bulls and Melo have been blindsided by their reported news. And the Bulls are doomed because they only have 15 mil to offer.

No, a team can only S&T players that were on its roster at the end of the previous season.

The differnece here is that LeBron tried for a few years to recruit his buddies to Cleveland. No one wanted to come. The closet he got was a broken down Shaq who was too far past his prime. But he made serious pitches to every FA in 2008 and 2009 to crickets.

This is actually the time Melo should be recruiting for the Knicks, and he's doing some 'spying' on the other top orgainzations which might be his version of recruiting for Phil.

But I agree that becoming a pariah in NYC and turning down a MAX deal seems insane for Melo.
The NYC media will destroy those guys if he leaves. I just can't see the wife and kid being OK with that, becoming pariahs in the city they seem to love. Would you want that?

I think yesterday was basically Melo giving Joakim the curteosy of a Bulls pitch but this was also his chance to explain to all those guys why he needs to stay in NYC despite the fact this would be a good fit. Instead of them reading stories in the press if/why he resigns in NYC - they will know exactly why and heard it from him directly yesteday.

The NBA has changed. Jo, Rose and Melo might be hanging at ASG for years to come. Carmelo will be in USA basketball with Thibs in a few weeks.

What doesn't jive with this is the sheer amount of time he spent with the Bulls. depending on whether he got any time w Noah Monday it was anything from a full (long) day to 1.5 days. And that's after a s**t-ton of backchannel communications w Thibs, Noah, Rose, etc. If it was truly as simple as you say, no need to do all that. In fact, that would make a lot more sense directed at HOU/DAL given that they all seem to have a couple hours each.

No. Would rather trade Gibson and just give Melo his money that way.

I place a high value on Gibson, but there is no way I trade Mirotic, McDermott, Butler and 3 picks just to keep him. The Bulls also lose the MLE by dumping Gibson but so be it.

Bulls trade: Gibson, Dunleavey to someone
Bulls receive: Future 1st.
Bulls sign: Melo at 4/96

NY receives: Nothing

I don't think McDermott is getting traded. If you're wanting that much, I'd go this route-

Amnesty Boozer.
Butler, Dunleavy, non-guaranteeds, SAC protected 1st pick for Melo at $20M.

You want Boozer, I'll toss in Mirotic or another future 1st.
Honesty is my only excuse.

I think it is delusional/ridiculous and if your FO has similar thoughts then please keep Melo on a maximum contract.

Bulls send Boozer to 3rd team. Trade Snell, Dunleavy, unguaranteeds plus Sac pick and Bulls 2015 for Melo and JR Smith.

Seriously, Knicks fans are stuck in the 70s. No one cares about the New York Knicks anymore nationally or internationally.

I think this is a sign and trade, not a straight trade. That trade is absolutely ridiculous.
