SAS is an idiot. Repeats endlessly Melo is about the money - ok why doesn't he just take it then and re-sign - but says he would love to go to Miami if Bosh leaves. Yet that contradicts his mantra about money, because no way can Melo get max in Miami unless LeBron takes a paycut too, as they would surely have to bring Wade back as well out of loyalty. But all we hear is LeBron wants the max.

He can't get his story straight, sounds like he hasn't heard a new iota since his vacation.

Also has no clue what a S&T is.

You are talking to me, so I will answer: If he were trying to leverage his way to Chicago, why not just put it out there publically that he has asked NY to sign and trade him to Chicago, and put the pressure on Phil Jackson to "behave" and capitulate?

Because Phil has no obligation to capitulate to Melo. The only way Melo gets what he wants from NY is to have another option available that NY is worried enough about to fear losing Melo for nothing.

This whole 'leverage' angle might be wishful thinking on Bulls fans part - buts exactly how Melo would need to play it to force NY into working a S&T.

Honestly, this is what I believe at this point.

SAS has baicslly written us off because he believes we can't offer enough money. He stated Melo would need to take a $50 mil cut to come here.

He went to note everyone but Chicago is in the mix. "HOU, Dal, LA all in the mix. NY in the lead. He will go to MIA in a heartbeat if he can" - paraphrased

Had to look it up:

From Coon's FAQ
99. When can't a player be traded? Can players be given "no-trade" clauses in their contracts?

A "no-trade" clause prevents the team from trading the player without the player's consent. A no-trade clause can be negotiated into a new contract1 if the player has been in the NBA for at least eight seasons, and has played for the team with which he is signing for at least four seasons. They don't have to be the four most recent seasons -- for example, Horace Grant received a no-trade clause from Orlando when he signed with them in 2001. He had played for Orlando for the requisite four seasons, but had played for Seattle and Los Angeles in the interim. Very few players actually have one of these negotiated no-trade provisions (currently only Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett and Dirk Nowitzki have them).

So Melo isn't eligible for a No-trade from any club.

WTF is SAS talking about?

So if Melo isn't even eligible for a no-trade, did SAS just make that up? Is he making up this entire story? Would love to see someone ask SAS about that?

That's not all I've heard...From what I heard LBJ wants max if he's going to return to a non-improved Miami. He'll also likely expect max if he's leaving. But if Miami can add Melo, a real difference maker, he'll let Riley do his magic.

You have to interpret with this guy.

My read is Melo is waiting to see if he can sell out to got to MIA if Bosh leaves. He will take less to go there otherwise he takes the money and stays in NY

I can't believe I'm defending SAS but he said that Melo WANTS a no-trade. That may be accurate. Of course leaving out the fact that it isn't possible is bad on his part. Then again, the lack of concrete, informed discussion from anyone on ESPN shouldn't be a shocker to anyone.
Honesty is my only excuse.

Why would it even be a part of Melo's decision making if it isn't possible?

Aggrey Sam was on 670 the Score and didn't sound too hopeful. Basically said that he's always thought Melo was going back to New York and based on conversations he's had and gut feeling that he thinks that's where it will end up. Said L.A. is an intriguing possibility, and makes sense in a few ways (namely LaLa's career and the fact that they live there in the offseason). Said plan B will be Mirotic and whatever mid-level free agents are left. Said Boozer's camp was told there was a high probability for a trade or amnesty this offseason.

All in all, his opinion was this was Melo to Chicago was unlikely. Said for Melo this was most likely his way of surveying the landscape to see what was out there, but in the end it all comes back to New York and getting the max there.

Well put it this way, Stephen A Smith and Broushard are basically NY guys. Everything that comes out of their mouth always comes from a NY place.

Alot of what they say, has been their personal opinion rather than "source".

Even though they maybe right, its still just opinion.

Melo has been on the team for four seasons (11,12,13,14) but not full seasons so I'm not sure he qualifies but most NBA rules call any part of a year a year.

SAS also said I am not sure if you caught it or not he has been told there will be no decision today but also said he has been lied to before so take it for what its worth.

This is really starting to feel like 2010 all over again where the Bulls maybe not being used but being delayed in making moves.

Return to Chicago Bulls
