This team is gritty and wants it.

And they are generally more experienced now. They have been a playoff team for some time now, and it takes a few lumps to know that they have to play at a certain level to truly be contenders. I'll be rooting for them to get into the Finals.

I think the previous Bucks teams while skilled were, I don't want to say softer but they weren't fully prepared for playoff basketball when it was crunch time.
It's almost like they felt that no matter what, Giannis would carry them through.

This is, by FAAARRRR, the best 1st round matchups the NBA has had, at the very least, in my lifetime.

Bucks (former mvp)
Vs
Heat (last year's EC winner, Jimmy butler)

Nets (big 3, new york)
Vs
Celtics (legacy, tatum)

Knicks (playoffs at MSG are just a different level)
Vs
Hawks (young superstar in Trae)

76ers (legit contender that needs to make good, joel and ben)
Vs
Wiz (westbrook and beal)

West matchups just as stacked.

NBA had a good damn year.

I thought Spolestra would have been fired 10 years ago. Props to that guy. LBJ has left a lot of coaching careers on his trail.

I was just going to chime in to say there will be some losers in these playoffs not only because they fail to advance but maybe some teams will have to retool or tweak their rosters which might present the Bulls with a trade partner or 2.

100% Spo is fired during that first year in most organizations.

Maybe because Miami is scrappy but the Bucks look out for blood right now. Miami needs Herro and Bam to show up and I’m not sure they will. I expect one win from Miami but unless things change I don’t think the Bucks are taking their foot off the gas on Miami. They look like a team that is making a point more than just winning

We have almost nothing to trade outside of Thad, Sato and White and those guys aren't bringing back much in trade.

Unsurprising - it was a confusing hire at the time. Stan isn't a particularly good coach, and his system in the last two places that he coached was "inside-out, build around a dominant big (or a big you are trying to force into that role)."

I guess that Zion is sort of a big, and Stan did sort of focus around him - letting him play point forward - but it's a departure. Meanwhile, the game has kind of moved on.

If the Blazers let Stotts go - something which IMO would be a big mistake - the Pelicans should jump all over him.

Or, hey, if Stotts is let go but via Adams they Pels want Donovan, the Bulls can trade Donovan to them for a lightly protected couple of firsts! And then hire Stotts.

I am 99% sure we don't get anything of notable value in exchange for Lauri on a S&T, but happy to be wrong. I'm not sure about the fit with Lauri and Zion. Neither gives enough rim protection to play C.

people talk about diverse hiring but how about in terms of recycling the same ol coaches over and over again. New is also a group.

And people claim we've been tanking the last few years. We are just bad but not bad enough to get the top picks. Meanwhile, those teams who tanked are creating a winning culture faster than the Bulls.

As for the playoffs, I'm enjoying the influx of young blood. Trae was awesome against the Knicks (tho I'm still annoyed by him hahaha), Ja is a gamer who reminds me of a young D. Rose but cockier. Tatum and Luka are known commodities at this point and both are carrying their teams. Luka is a boss.

MEM and ATL plain and simply drafted, signed and traded better than GarPax... 3 years in a row (well, actually 5 years if we include the bumbling 15-17 stretch). Even hit on late picks (Collins, Huerter, Clarke, Brooks). Took shots on 'unwanted' guys like Valanciunas, Kyle Anderson, Melton, Grayson, and they've all played and developed well. They also kept building that cheap bench, instead of renting and dumping them (like Justin Holiday and Nwaba, who were entirely decent finds).

Obviously Trae and Ja were huge picks, but trading Luka for what became Trae and Reddish is obviously a "mistake," that has still kind of panned out due to the success of all their other moves.

More than anything it just demonstrated the ineptitude between forward-thinking, modern NBA FOs and GarPax. Plenty of opportunities in those 3 years even with #7 picks.

Both Memphis & Atlanta were examples of luck mattering more than tanking.

Memphis had 33 wins when they got Ja and were trying to make the playoffs with a roster of vets: Mike Conley, Marc Gasol, Garrett Temple, Valanciunas, Avery Bradley. They're "back" in the playoffs so quickly because they never stopped trying to win, there was no organizational goal of losing in the first place. Their situation is similar to the Paxson Bulls when we fired Skiles & got lucky and Rose walked into a team & GM that was always trying to win.

The Doncic/Trae draft also didn't really reward tanking. Atlanta leapfrogged two teams to get the #3 pick. And that was the year that a team with a relatively high # of wins, Sacramento, got the #2 pick. They "lost" the coinflip against us for that #2 pick. Phoenix did get #1, but wasn't a great reward in hindsight.

This is still mostly luck. The only way there's any strategy to this is by giving yourself more dice to throw, like what Sam Presti is doing by collecting 17 1st rounder picks. Everyone else isn't employing any actual strategy, they're just feeding the fans nonsense that there's some kind of cohesive plan around being & staying bad.

Brooklyn isn’t losing to any Eastern conference team. Should be easy for them to get to the finals.

Tatum as talented as he is, really has some stinkers for a star player.

And he really doesn't get to the line at an elite level for him to make up for those bad shooting games.
Why so serious?
