The Mavericks have secured a verbal commitment from Israeli point guard Gal Mekel, reports ESPN.com's Marc Stein (via Twitter). Once the July moratorium is lifted, Mekel will sign a multiyear minimum-salary contract with the Mavs, according to Stein (via Twitter).

Stein reported a week ago that the Mavs were leading the charge among the NBA teams interested in Mekel, with the Raptors, Bucks, Hawks, Pacers, Grizzlies, and Jazz also registering some level of interest. At the time, Stein wrote that the 25-year-old had begun to convince NBA talent evaluators that he could immediately produce as a rotation player, especially after Pablo Prigioni successfully made the leap to the Association last season after a career overseas.

Mekel, a former Wichita State guard, averaged 13.3 PPG and 5.4 APG in Israel in 2012/13 en route to leading Maccabi Haifa to a championship, earning league MVP honors for the second time in the last four years. For the Mavs, agreeing to sign Mekel doesn't get in the way of a pursuit of Dwight Howard, since the point guard will be signing for the minimum.

Andrew Bynum is discussing a deal with the #Mavs that would include an injury clause. Interesting fit for him. Stay tuned. #NBA

Nice find, I assume Oden may have this as well if added to the Heat.

I think the Bulls don''t a choice but to make a huge move. Most teams in the EC are looking to make big moves including the Bobcats.

Greg Oden is receiving interest from the San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavericks, Indiana Pacers and Memphis Grizzlies, among others.

The Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat and Boston Celtics have been linked to Oden over the past year.

Since the Heat are already a problem lets assume Oden goes to the Pacers, A healthy Oden could easily be better than Hibbert. Plus they are looking to sign Watson and probably resign West.

If they decide to keep Granger on the bench

Hill/Watson
Stephenson/Young
George/Granger
West/Hansbourgh
Hibbert/Oden

Assuming George continues to develop this team could be better than the Bulls

That seals it...so because the Bobcats make a move to improve we need to panic and do some trades just to make some moves? Come on...

Oh and I really hope they sign AL Jefferson...that will help keep them out of a top pick (Wiggins...) next year

I am really interested in 1 of 2 players. Mike Dunleavy and JJ Reddick. In all honesty I'd love to get both of them on this team.

I'd like the Bulls to S & T for JJ Reddick and Mbah a Moute. My suggestion is obviously Deng for the two of them. I want Mbah a Moute because I think he matches up pretty well with LBJ. Then sign Dunleavy for the vet min, if he takes it.

Rose/Hinrich/Teague
Reddick/Dunleavy
Butler/Mbah a Moute/Snell
Boozer/Gibson
Noah/ Nazr

The OP says that JJ Reddick and Bucks have lots of sign and trade options. Hope we are one.

The Bulls can't be the only team not making moves. If the Nets add a good bench they could be better than us. The heat are the Favorites. The pacers were a tough match up for us before PG became a star and now they are looking to add Oden which could be huge. I never said make a blockbuster trade but we do need to add quality bench players. If Ellis and Mo williams both came off the bench for us that would be amazing. (Rip and the TPE for Ellis.) then for the Vet min add Dorrell Wright.

I would love for the Bobcats to overpay Al Jefferson. Just good enough to not be the worst.

You can't add the TPE to a player - and you can't do a S&T unless you get payroll below 74 million.

You can't include anything with the TPE it's free standing only.

So the Bulls absolutely MUST make a move because the Nets are destroying their franchise's future for the next 5-10 years to chase after the Heat with two old players? They MUST make a move because Greg Oden MAY be interested in the Pacers? They MUST make a move because the Knicks again make a foolish trade?

Do some of you really realize how shrill you sound?!?

Beyond Houston Rockets owner Les Alexander, general manager Daryl Morey, his front office staff, and coach Kevin McHale, the organization brought Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler to make cases to Howard about ownership's long commitment to winning and its relationships with its iconic players.

"Hakeem didn't say much, but what did he say was very impactful," one source in the room told Yahoo! Sports. Olajuwon talked about the Rockets as a destination for championships and drew upon his own personal relationship with Howard, sources said.

I don't think anybody's all too worried about the Pacers or Knicks. But to discredit what the Nets have done by saying they've ruined the franchise's future for the next 5-10 years a) is a very vague statement to make, first off; 5-10 years is a huge difference in basketball time, so that was a silly thing to say, and b) at some point don't you have to stop trying to secure success down the road in favor of winning while we've got the opportunity we do right now?

I find the whole courting of Dwight Howard hilarious and sad. Honestly, WTF does Dwight care what Clyde Drexler and Yao Ming have to say about Houston? I could understand Hakeem because they play the same position and he actually won titles with them. But even in that case, it was decades ago in a whole different era. Dwight knows where he's going and I don't think he'll be swayed by anything besides who he'll be playing with and how much they are paying him.
