How does trading for Taj's 8 million salary help Sacramento when they can't even pay a rookie salary. I understand they want a veteran but with Gay opting-in, their salary flexibility to take a veteran is gone. Either they have to get of other veterans or take two Euros with the Bulls picks..

Personally I don't think Morrison is much of a comparison for McDermott at all.

C'mon, CF. They've been right about Taj and Butler... two guys who were considered a reach at the time. Taj was too old and Jimmy supposedly only had 2nd round scrub talent. I actually don't like McDermott, but we should give this kid the benefit of the doubt if the FO is that high on him. It's also possible that this is just a smokescreen for someone else they really like at #8.

They've also been wrong about Tyrus Thomas, James Johnson, Teague, and Snell.

Recently we haven't had much going for us in the draft.

Planning to add "definite" talent based on draft is pure nonsense. Draft is always hope. There is no reason for the Bulls to rebuild when you have Derrick coming back healthy. A draft pick for the Bulls should be a bonus addition and for possible future use. If they are planning on relying on a draft pick for contending, then they are really going the cheap route.

Not saying I'd want such a thing but something like,

Taj + SAC protected + #16 for #8 + J Thompson or D Williams.

You could ask for C Landry but doubt Sac would agree. Sac can't just take on "everything" w/o giving up somebody since they're at ~$65 mil now.
TGibson (1/28/17); "..."a 4 or 5 on a scale of 1 to 10 for drama"...What's the worst? "...yelling matches with Thibs, everybody is just going crazy and I'm just sitting there...like, 'Don't call my name please..."

Is there ANY evidence that the above scenario is the case? I see you post something like this A LOT.

I mean I get it, I understand the doubt because I'm right there with most. But I can't find ANYTHING to support the above other than some draft rumors.

Like I said a little bit ago. Several people told me stuff that made me sick to my stomach and now a bunch of media rumors have come out that go along the same lines. Hopefully its all an error or at least this part of it is.

There are another series of media reports that completely conflicts with it. Those rumors (ie. the Bulls want Melo badly and are hoping for a sign and trade) make me very happy.

It's possible they just don't want 3 rookies (assuming Mirotic comes over) and Snell on the same team. That's a 3rd of your roster with a ton of inexperience.

I get the issue though. There's a lot of scouts that aren't sure if McDermott's game will translate in the NBA. A lot of the best scorers in the NCAA haven't panned out as stars in the NBA (Beasley, JJ, Morrison, Respert, etc). At the end of the day, these past players have nothing to do with McDermott's future, but I at least understand the apprehension.

The other component to this is that we're potentially trading a key player (Taj) or some of the assets we may need for Love or Melo (16, 19, etc.).

So that no one else trades up to get the player you want (I.E. Charlotte trading up to 7).

IMO, if you're going to have to go the cap space route for a shot at Melo, you might as well just go after Kevin Love instead.

Is all this trading up for anybody all back-up planning? Or is all this possible while still acquiring Melo?
Kris Bryant will go down as the greatest Chicago athlete after MJ

edit 7/30/21: okay maybe not, but it was a fun ride nonetheless

Its actualy not, they say Gms in the lottery are extremely high on Mcdermott. I read that Mcdermot last no later then 10 because the Bobcats are in love with him. For comparison I read that most Gms have MCdermott rated above Stauskas and Harris. They say hes been dominating guys who are atheletic in workouts aswell. Any team that gets Mcdermott knows they are getting an Elite shooter that is a high IQ guy that can contribute from day 1.

if bobcats are in love then its best we stay away

when was the last time they drafted a good prospect? exactly

Or we draft him and trade him in three years for a lottery-protected draft pick.
Honesty is my only excuse.

To make this work, it would have to be a three-way trade. That's the only way it makes at least some sense for the Bulls, because then they would be clearing cap space. (A two-way trade with Sacto won't work, as you suggest, because they are over the cap and would have to send back salary.) Something like:

Bulls out: Taj (8M), 19, Sacto pick
Bulls in: 8

Kings out: 8, Derrick Williams (6.3M), Willie Reed (.9M unguaranteed)
Kings in: Taj, Sacto pick

Philly in: Williams, Reed, 19
Philly out: cap space

Bulls would then have room to sign Melo at his max FA salary if he is willing to come and they do the usual things (i.e, amnesty Boozer, draft a Euro (Saric?) at 16 or trade the pick for a future pick, dump Snell and MDJ for cap space, sign an intent letter with Mirotic). They would look like this:

Anthony- $22,458,401
Rose - $18,862,876
Noah - $12,700,000
Butler - $2,008,748
Smith - $915,243
McDermott - $2,288,200
Roster charge ($507,336) x 7 = $3,551,352
Rip* - $333,334

Total: $63,118,154

Rose, Room MLE
Butler, vet min
Melo, vet min
McDermott, vet min
Noah, Smith
