Kerr lucked into a stacked roster tho...i don't believe he's some miracle worker
Hoiberg is nice but it would be nice if the FO acknowledged that work needs to be done on the roster

This narrative that Thibs never tries anything new and that these beaten down, abused Bulls just need a soft spoken, easy going buddy that lets them run around, take lots of lemonade breaks and have fun is bemusing.
Wittman played Pierce at the 4 because it was for the betterment of his team. Thibodeau played Dunleavy at the 4 because of injuries/fouls.
Context is important. They're not comparable.

sounds more like Collins just wants to coachRed-Bulls83 wrote:TyrusRose2425 wrote:I think Ralph mentioned this too and he's the go to guy for all this coaching info, but Doug Collins is a good possibility to be Hoiberg's lead assistant here.
I would think that would take a lot of money to make it happen. Not only to Hoiberg to convince him to leave Iowa and Collins to leave the studios to coach as an assistant again.
Then you could potentially have a Jason Kidd/Lawrence Frank type situation arise where a conflict arises.

Fred Hoiberg's Coaching
Didn't the 76ers, the last team Doug Collins coached, complain about many of the same things Bulls players, management and fans complained about Thibs? Too stubborn, strict on play calling, structured and old school. I like Collins but his last team complained about the same stuff we complain about Thibs

Fred Hoiberg's Coaching
What the Bulls need is a layed back coach who can be good with NBA vets and will open up the offense for Rose, Butler, Mirotic, Doug and Snell while keeping the defensive scheme intact. Dont need a massive overhaul of the roster just add a little athleticism at Center and on the wings and let the new coach go to work. Sometimes all you need is a new coaching staff to bring in some enthusiasm like Golden State

This is my concern. I think this roster still needs someone to whip them into shape, and I see Hoiberg as more of the player's coach that will get taken advantage of by a more veteran roster.

No way D' Antoni doesn't fit this squad. I think Denver is after him

Bulls - Warriors of the East?!

Hoiberg plus Monty Williams and Doug Collins as assistants would be as ideal as you could get.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is Griffin. He has been interviewed for a few jobs and has been under Skiles and now Thibs. I see him sticking as a assistant if he wants and why wouldn't he. We can keep the same principles in tact. I haven't seen one person mention him as a option. TBH I think he could even be in line to get the job if Hoiberg says no.

Adrian Griffin was mentioned as a possible Thibs replacement around the same time the Gentry rumor popped up iirc.

I'm talking about for the lead assistant to a Hoiberg. I think he has a really good shot at it if he's not our head coach.

Griffin being promoted to head coach would seem more like the Hollins to Joerger route. Transitioning from someone who was probably more old school and more rigid, to someone they probably would feel confident to be more flexible but still maintain many of the same principles as the previous head coach.
Wouldn't love the move but I guess you could do worse. Jimmy credited a lot of his development to Griffin I believe.

Griffin is one of the younger assistants that been getting looked at of late and yes they say everyone loves him and I wouldn't be too surprised if the players wouldn't want him if Thibs were gone. I want Hoiberg but I think he may not come.
The Bulls could then promote Griffin who is a bright mind but more player friendly with a solid staff or they get get one of the best offensive minds out there in Gentry and promote Griffin to lead assistant and run the defense.

Why do you say you don't think Hoiberg will come? Your sources saying that? Is it cold feet?
And Adrian Griffin was already our lead assistant. Are you saying for him to be HC, then Gentry will come here as a lead assistant? Doubt that Gentry would leave GSW for anything outside a HC gig.

I just don't know if he's ready to make the jump. People think the Bulls are doing Fred a favor and for a year now I've said that's not the case. They are high on him and he's #1 on their list. They feel with the connections and team that would entice him. But nothing from Fred has been leaked that he'd come.
The two teams he'd consider is Minny and Chicago and he turned Minny down last year.

I'm saying Griffin as coach and someone other than Gentry. Maybe Chip Engelland or someone like that. If they hire Gentry, I see Griffin staying and though he may be the lead assistant role now, he'd have more input and his hands on the defense.

The Warriors were a 51 team last season and lost in the 1st round; sounds somewhat familiar?
Their roster only became stacked in hindsight when Draymond Green and Harrison Barnes were utilized better, Stephen Curry became the best point guard in the league, Klay Thompson became a definite all-star and their defense and offense both reached elite status.
Despite people dramatizing and exaggerating the flaws of this team, the Bulls are still a good team. They will likely make the playoffs again next season as a Top 3-4 seed. They just need a coach that can connect better and get them over the hump, as well as a few tweaks here and there to the roster. The majority of the improvement has to be internal though.
-Rose staying healthy and building on the things he did in the playoffs.
-Butler continuing what he did last season.
-Gasol hopefully not getting drained by father time.
-Noah bouncing back.
-Mirotic taking the next step
-McDermott and Snell becoming consistent contributors

If Hoiberg wasn't interested, I think he'd make a statement to the effect by now.
