That means he becomes a 4th quarter liability, especially in the playoffs. He is better than Carter, and that's why I try for him at the right price...something like 4/$70 is about as much as I'd do. I think that would still leave us a max slot.

The flipside of the argument is that Carter is playing better and may be a guy who doesn't need replacing, and we could focus our cap space replacing more likely holes at PG and PF.

Andre Drummond is a clear upgrade at the center position. Sign him and use WCJ to trade up and get one of the top 5 future stars in the draft.

IMO nobody would give us much in trade value for Carter (especially if we give up on him...which is what this will appear to be to other GM's).

You might be right. Let’s see how the season finishes. Hopefully as the year progresses he will build up some value.

Some people here want to build around him and Zach and he’s been described as a star player (lol) in this thread. I do think many people view Drummond as more than the solid starting center that he can be.

Okay, you got me. That one game against the Knicks convinced me. He’s a superstar.

It doesn't matter who it was against, there are only a couple guys in the NBA that could even dream of sniffing that type of stat line. That doesn't negate some of the weaknesses in his game or erase the concerns that a traditional center's role in the NBA is obsolete. The reality of the situation is that the free agent class of 2021 has dwindled down to Drummond possibly being one of the top 5 available players.

Portland signed Jusuf Nurkic to a 4 year - 48 million dollar extension. Jonas Valanciunas signed a 3 year - 45 million dollar extension. New Orleans just extended Steven Adams to a 2 year - 35 million dollar extension. The market for traditional centers is considerably lower than a max contract.
