nomorezorro wrote:post-lauri trade, there are two spots left and i think we could benefit from any of the following player archetypes:

1. legit 4/5
2. guard/wing shooter
3. stretch big (could overlap with 1)
4. defensive big (would almost certainly overlap with 1)
5. pure pg

i've been anti-millsap because i think he's pretty close to cooked and would rather chase someone younger, but it's hard to deny that he would probably tick a lot of boxes in the regular season.

looking at the depth chart on paper, the wing depth still seems kind of sketchy, especially because we're lacking reliable shooters. i don't really want to be relying on troy brown as a rotation piece, yknow? in practice, though, i'm sure we're going to see a ton of three-guard lineups, and if coby can establish himself as a catch-and-shoot specialist off the bench then that would shore things up on the shooting front.

if you're a lonzo skeptic and see ayo and coby as combo/shooting guards, we arguably don't have an actual point guard on the roster. i don't actually expect us to make a move here, but it's kinda weird!

in the end, i would guess we're gonna add a PF and save the last roster spot for trades/buyouts.

Post Lauri trade, I'd be leaning toward another offensive minded big like Aldridge or Cousins. I wonder if we could nab a bought out Love?

i was torn on that — the bench could definitely use a more reliable offensive guy since coby is currently the biggest threat we have on that end. but at the same time, there should basically never be a time when one of derozan/lavine/vucevic isn't on the court, so even without a surefire offensive reserve, you can always have an offensive hub out there to buoy bench lineups.

that's basically how i ended up talking myself into millsap, because he's probably the most balanced option available. he's a solid offensive guy, he's still solid on defense as long as the other team isn't specifically looking to exploit him, he's an ok shooter.

i was definitely thinking about a bought-out love as a possible addition. i'm pretty sure i like him better as a kick-the-tires option than aldridge, who would be extremely "ehhh" about adding

I'd be great with Milsap too.

Current roster:
Ball / Caruso / Ayo
Lavine / White / Green
DDR / TBJ / DJJ
Williams
Vucevic / Bradley / Sim

Chicago should have 5-6m to spend but I'm not sure they can do it in one place.

Still really like this Cam Oliver cat, though he's really young. Still, fits the combo forward who can hit 3s and defend the rim a bit (and also the perimeter a bit) mold. A touch bigger than Pat.

Also would look at Caboclo (if he can be brought over), Vonleh, Bates-Diop, Mike Scott, the corpse of Trevor Booker (though he's 33 and hasn't played in the NBA since 17-18... he also wasn't bad in 17-18), maybe Skal Labissiere (sp)...

I'd sign Illyasova if there isn't a legit defender at the 4 spot available as a diamind in the rough somewhere (obviously such a player would suck on offense if they're currently available for the minimum). I'm thinking like a undrafted graduated senior who is a proven high level ncaa defender considered to have little upside so not signed yet.

I predict a S&T with DEN for Millsap, using our $5 M TPE.

If the Bulls do, you would be complaining to much to ever hear it.

NBA fan logic we need to trade one of two best players because (Player X) one needs to shine more.

I read that Paul Millsap is looking for a deal in the 5-6m range; I think he might slot in nicely behind Williams and can be a solid bench small-ball 5 too.

I'm hoping for Paul Millsap, and Noah Vonleh. I would like Millsap to start to, with his experience and Patrick Williams to earn the position kind of like Jimmy Butler did.

Ball/White/Ayo
Lavine/Caruso/Green
DeRozan/Jones/Brown
Millsap/Williams/Marko
Vuce/Vonleh/Bradley

That's a nice looking team

We only have 3 actual true big men on the roster, and Vuch is the only one who is suited for anything more than a fringe rotation role. Marko looks like a 'tweener and doesn't seem like he'll be ready to contribute in year 1, and Bradley is like a 10th/11th man type. So addressing the big spots is an obvious need, even if we do plan on running a ton of small-ball lineups. Just one injury or player playing below expectations at the 4/5 spots would screw us big time, no pun intended.
