No Ayo or Caruso now. Ayo in particular generally did a great job guarding him. We’ll see if Coby is up to it.
I think this is actually pretty interesting conversation, and interesting to see where people fall on it.
I too think Trae young is better and more dangerous than either Banchero or Wagner.
I'm not sure when 24 points and 11.6 assists per game became something to turn ones nose up at. Yes Trae's effeciency (57% TS) could better, but it's better than Banchero's (55% TS%) and Wagners (56%).
Trae can carve up your defense by scoring, getting his teammates easy buckets, and fouling out your players.
Trae is a truly horrible defender and will always lose because of it.
He has a lot of tricks but there is he stinks on defense.
He is bad on defense
He is a crappy rebounder
He does not draw charges
He does not get stills.
Just posted this but ill put it here as well:
From GB:
Trae in serious games/series:
8-21 FG vs Magic, ejected, loss 2025
4-12 vs Bulls, eliminated, 2024 playin ( plus minus of - 27, worst on a team)
8-18 (1-8 for 3) , win vs Heat. 29 ppg on 52% TS vs Celtics in 2023
8-24 (1-7 for 3) vs Hornets in playin 2022 (round1) , 13-25 FG vs Cavs (round ), followed by soul crushing 15 ppg on 46% TS vs Heat in 5 games
Aside from 2021 run where he thrived on being irritating troll vs Knicks & 76ers beating themself, Trae pretty much always was nothing but crappy efficiency, sky high usage and fishing for fouls that often refs in playoffs don't call type of player.
And it's a given that every good team will hunt him on defense and expose his lack of length, lack of awareness as he is one of worst defenders nba has. Both clueless and incapable.
Overall he is opposite of floor raiser. Puts ceiling on your team, kills your defense and isn't good enough on offense to justify usage.
