So much for a level playing field. I really do wonder what would have happened if he would have agreed on a deal with Dallas?

Not sure why him staying overnight in Chicago is significant at all...

McCarthy would be the "safe" choice that Warren and McCaskey would probably prefer. He probably gets us back to respectability. But I've watched a lot of Cowboys games over the past 5 years. Unimpressive. No wonder the Cowboys let McCarthy walk. Enough with retreads already. Get Ben Johnson and shoot for a Super Bowl before Caleb gets to his 2nd contract forcing us to gut the roster.

If Ryan and Kevin take him to the Waffle House this morning, it’s on. Is there a Waffle House in Chicago?

Gut is telling me it will be McCarthy

Heart and Brain is telling me to find a new team FAST, while McCarthy can get you to the playoffs he can't win in them so i'm not sold on him whatsoever

I’m also not a big fan of McCarthy for as much concern as people have about Johnson being part of a well oiled machine I have the same concerns about McCarthy. The one championship having Rodgers is IMO kind of mixed, it’s great that he won but only having one ring having a MVP QB and that team isn’t a ringing endorsement to me. Also it shouldn’t bother me but the watermelon thing sounds so dumb and honestly something Boylen would pull but I guess more importantly it doesn’t seem like there is anyone really upset that he’s gone where Carroll seems to get a lot of respect from people in Seattle still.

Honestly Carroll is pretty close to my favorite I feel like yeah you aren’t getting a decade out of the guy but he is very likely to set the team up well over the next 5 years and provide a transition to someone he prepared, with these OC maybe we get a decade of dominance maybe we get Nagy/Flus again. I’d rather just know we have a good set up for the next 5 years because I think that’s what’s critical to us. If Caleb grows into a stud over the next 5 years the coaching starts to not be as critical as it is now.

I would put him over the coordinators outside of Johnson so I’m probably Johnson Carroll and then maybe McCarthy but I probably would just feel like they didn’t screw up too bad rather than being excited for him.

These narratives are just narratives. He hasn’t won recently. There’s no reason he won’t. He’s been to 4 NFC title games and won a Superbowl. Not many coaches can say that. If Poles gives him a squad to work with, I will take playing in a couple of those title games or just a number of playoffs games and roll the dice in a heartbeat.

Idk, I can't personally put my finger on it but I'm just not a fan or sold on him, to me it screams desperation to "please the crowd" similar to the Bulls right now, "lets continuosly put together a crap team, an ok coach and skim into the playoffs to get killed yearly but you can't fire us because we made the playoffs". If he comes to the Bears, i'll give it a chance but just not sold on the idea at all especially like you said with his recent "success" or lack there of.

I don’t blame anyone for not being sold, but who can we say we would be sold on. As Aaron Rodgers says, and is good enough to feel good about: “Hell of a ball coach," Rodgers said Thursday on The Pat McAfee Show. "What he did this year with the amount of injuries they had I thought was amazing ... Anyone who plays for Mike and gets to know him a bit, and gets to feel that great big heart that he's got, it's special."

I don't get it. Does this mean that you want Bellichek or Carrol? Those are the only 2 with better track records left. Flores, Johnson and others haven't done anything close to McCarthy.

I think McCarthy is the safe pick to rebuild and get us to the playoffs quickly. Johnson could be boom or bust but it's a tall task for a 1st time HC to come in and turn us into a winner quick.

They really missed their opportunity with Harbaugh last year.

:dontknow:

I don't think they would ever hire a guy because we think "we like someone else more, but good enough". I think the bigger concern for the org might be the demands of the guy they are hiring. Like if Poles basically is out if we hire candidate X whom wants more organizational control, then Poles is going to have a conflict of interest around candidate X.

Those are reasonable concerns potentially too. Like maybe they love a guy as head coach, but they don't love a guy whom is head coach and managing personnel decisions. That's actually pretty reasonable, especially if that guy is Ben Johnson whom is already going to have to adapt from OC to HC and adapting to OC to HC + part time GM is an even bigger ask and is going to be even more overwhelming.

Personally would rather have a up and comer then a "has been". Just my opinion obviously people feel otherwise but I think (Carroll, Bellichek are past their prime and not worth it), McCarthy as you said is a safe play - a very Chicago thing to do, bring in the middling coach to continue to have a middling team (this is the Bulls in a nutshell). I'd rather go big or go broke, if it bites you in the ass later at least you tried (similar to drafting Williams in the first place). The last several coaches have been either safe plays or guys that i and many others thought were gonna be busts anyways (Trestman, Flus, etc).

Return to Chicago Bulls
