For all that we know, Rose might have already contacted Melo giving him a clear indication of his fitness level and his willingness to accept him as a team-mate ... Just because he is not doing it as a part of some modern day reality TV show, it doesn't means that he hasn't already sent the right signals ...

In the private sector, co worker recruiting is quite common. In sports, its ultra common. Outright expected and has been for as long as anyone can remember.

Let's not paint this as some new, strange thing overall. It may be relatively new for professional sports in the US because full unrestricted free agency wasn't around decades ago but at the lower levels, recruiting is crazy for top level athletes.

But like I said, a lot of this is based on speculation. We have no idea what contact has occurred and is occurring. Crucifying Rose based on a few quotes and rumors is unnecessary.

I wouldn't say all sports. Recruiting only seems to be important or expected in the nba. The other sports, the FO handles those things. No one recruited Jared Allen to the bears. Phil Emery the GM recruited him.

I love the nba...but these guys really do seem to be little bitches. Only in the nba does it matter what town you play in or if a player from that team recruited them.

Melo has seen the impact of having bad defenders at PF in NY with Amare, Bargnani etc.. He has had shoulder injuries for two years now plus he is approaching 30 when healing times for injuries start taking longer times after 10 years of being the focus.

I don't know...it is just common sense for a Melo at this stage of his career to plan how to be effective in the future and know his strengths/weaknesses. The biggest reason he is considering the Bulls is because he doesn't want to do it alone or with one or two guys.

Taj is from NYC so there so hometown connection there.

There also no other guy in the NBA that deserves to start but instead came off the bench to accomidate another start - Boozer. That gets the attention of his peers, esp if this guy had won 6th man (which he should have!!!)

So even if the guy is just there to say - "yeah, I'll come off the bench and pick you up", that's worth it.

I think when Noah was talking to Melo during the playoffs...he was telling him how good Taj Gibson is. They all know each other coming from ny. Plus there all about the same age.

Actually Noah is hurting the odds of acquiring Melo more than Rose.

By demanding the Bulls keep Taj he has limited the avenues by which we can acquire Melo.

I would prefer a player who said the below and was hands off then made such demands that handcuffed the FO:

"I love Melo's game," Rose said. "He's a great player. Takes the game serious. He's consistent. He shoots the ball great. I love his heart.

"I can play with anybody, no matter who it is. I believe I can play with anyone if they step on the court with me."

You keep saying this and it's just so delusional. Do you really think the FO is letting Jo make personnel decisions for the Bulls? If Taj staying is a prerequisite, it is that of the FO's, or even Melo's and not just because it's what Jo wants.

Its a fact (as per the report) not an opinion and not a delusion. Noah demanded Taj not be traded as a condition of him recruiting Melo. If you want to talk delusions you must be deluded not to see the connection between Noah's demand and his and Taj's reported presence at the coming meeting. If the FO agreed to do that condition ( as it seems they have) for whatever reason then they are equally responsible for the outcome should the limitations on our maneuverability lead to Melo going elsewhere (or nowhere if he stays in NY).

However, the FO's decision to agree to keep Taj does not change the fact of Noah's condition for recruitment, and as I said I would rather he was hands off in terms of recruiting and simply gave gushing praise of Melo and stated his willingness to play with whomever the FO brings in , as Rose did in that article, rather than make demands that place limitations on what we can do this summer.

It just doesn't make any sense for Derrick not to drop-in for a few minutes. I understand his introverted mentality but if you cannot be there when you are the best player on the team....there is something else going on.

Derrick, Noah and Taj are the three best players on the team and if you cannot meet Melo to make him comfortable, then even if Melo comes to the Bulls...it will probably not work out. They already have to work together to develop chemistry on the court but this is something weird more than recruitment or sales pitch.
