Some of you guys just look at the number in a vacuum and consider it a terrible contract. But we aren’t in a vacuum.

There are easily 50 worse contracts, maybe 100, of varying levels of $$$ through the league.

Lavine has potential that so many players with big $$$ don’t have. If you don’t see that potential, that’s your choice. But the $$$ is fair. Dante Exum got 11 million.

What sort of injury protection outdoor there be?

Is there such a thing in contracts? Maybe minutes played or games played and incentives around d it?

Can someone shed light on this? Or, is it just an insurance clause?

The Bulls knew that the biggest offer Zach could have gotten was this exact offer from the Kings. If they really wanted Zach that badly why didn't they just offer the contract themselves and add in all the options they wanted and make their highest paid player feel wanted?

Is being locked in to 4-years with no team option and making your highest paid player feel unwanted worth the $10M gap that might have been out there? They knew this would be the deal if Zach was exploring.

Bulls got played...

A small drop? He had a TS% of .57 his last year with the Wolves and a .49 TS % with the Bulls. One is very good and one is very bad. I don't think you know what "horrible" means. He was awful last year, and it's not difficult to figure out why.

I don’t think you’ve looked at any of the advanced stats if you thought last year derailed a good player’s career. He’s been very bad every single year of his career.

I literally just cited one of those advanced statistics to show you that he was, in fact, not horrible every year of his career. Prior to last year, he had made an improvement every year in shooting efficiency, which is obviously a big deal for somebody who's game is predicated on offense.

I think this was a mistake but time will tell. I predict him to be very injury prone. Should of just went for Kyle Anderson for half the price.

Not saying that I necessarily agree with it because I love stats too, but this should be obvious.

I remember the last time they had a young, super-athletic player coming off a torn ACL

:)

Definitely paints the contract in a different light, really his ACL is the biggest concern. Pre-ACL, the way he played in Minny, I'm fine with it. He wasn't terrible until his post ACL year w/ Chicago.

It's $5M per year more than I would have liked...but ultimately Chicago can't sign anyone for that difference of $5M per year that lands us a championship. Really the cost hit of this is we can absorb less in terms of bad contracts. And it looks like we're not even doing that at all.

Please explain this reasoning. And please do take into account the financial concept of "sunk costs."

You can always trade him considering how young he is. There will always be a GM willing to take on the risk of a 25-26 year old Lavine. And if it pans out, then good thing we matched.

Maybe this time next year we can pull an Allen Crabbe where the Blazers matched the Nets sheet, then called next summer and said, " you still want him? Take him!"

Ahem. You cannot always trade him if he underperforms his contract and if other teams know that you need the capspace to sign, oh, I dunno, two superstars who want to play together.

You can only trade him if he seems to be outperforming his contract. And if he seems to be doing that, there'll be no reason to trade him.

By your reasoning, it's always wise to match ANY young player's offer sheet because, hey, some GM will be willing to take the multi-year risk on him after you've screwed up. It's demonstrably untrue using historical data. And the flawed psychology of "sunk costs" still have not been addressed.

Can’t wait to the rumors of Bulls trying to unload his contract once they realize the mistake in the coming seasons.

If only I got paid for what I might become with no repercussions if I end up not showing up to the office for the next 4-year.

Who would have thought that playing a professional sport is different than having a career in an office?

Of course you probably don't have a bunch of stats showing you really aren't that efficient. Not saying you don't work lmao, just pointing this out. It's easier for us in the office.

In fan hibernation since my favorite player got traded and other fans didn't want to hear my dismay. ;-)

Still love the Bulls oh so much. Following the Sixers more closely these days since I live on the EC and my kids support the team. Really like the Sixers' direction minus Colangelo's short-lived idiocracy. But of course the Bulls will always, always be #1.

Hope you're doing well.

Happy to see you back, you’ve been missed.

Please don’t let the pollyanna’s run you off again. It’s no more their team than yours.

And even with that improvement in true shooting % he peaked at the 388th best player in the league in rpm.

That’s how bad every other part of his game is.

This seems to be more of a PR* signing than merit-based.

How is this PR based? the PR move would of been to not match the offer.

Well I've been railing against this since the day we traded for him. I'm very disappointed. Other than drafting Wendell Carter I have been disappointed with most of the Bulls moves for the past three years.

NBA fan logic we need to trade one of two best players because (Player X) one needs to shine more.
