And if you got the stuff you've mentioned you'll see just how you bad you raped Chicago for an aging Carmelo Anthony.

But you won't.

If we get him we'll still have the majority of that stuff if not all of it. So I guess there's no way any of us will ever know who was right in this debate.

And I'm fine with that. :D

Edit: By the way, If a max contract is what it takes to make "Melo Happy" then this is not the place for him! That is the point we are all trying to stress to you Knicks fans.

you don't role out the red carpet like you do (or your organization did) for a aging player. Aging is hilarious. He had a dominant year last year and his numbers have only been trending up.

You don't do all that woowing to expect a guy to take 15 million per. That is just ridiculous.

Now that's just not true. They don't have to take Boozer's final year for us and it's highly doubtful we would salary-dump enough to sign Melo outright.

Quid pro quo

if he wants to leave you have no leverage just be honest

But the Bulls don't have cap space to sign him outright. Unless they dump Taj and everything points to Taj being on the roster.

I think it is intriguing that Taj was at the meeting and Carmelo said he wants Taj on the Bulls IF he comes. Butler was absent and NOTHING has been said about him. Same for Mirotic. Where the Knicks lose the most is if Melo says he'll sign outright with Houston, Dallas, or LA. Then the Knicks get nothing. They are incentivized to help the Bulls S&T so they get something back. But Melo cannot sign with the Bulls outright with the cap space they have available.

The Bulls and Knicks both need each other to make it work so they both have leverage. We just don't know how much.
Honesty is my only excuse.

Less for LeBron was still 6 years/$110 million or so....not really comparable.

Lebron just opted out of his final 2 years on that contract...

So more like 4 years/$67.4 million. Which averaged out to 16.85 per

OK, but if he wants to be a Bull and get $20M/yr then yes NY still has leverage.

But that should be obvious.

right. Melo could say "Chicago, I will sign with you if you can offer 17 mil and keep Taj, otherwise I'm signing elsewhere". Now he probably wouldn't do that because it would give NY all the leverage and would gut the Bulls, but even if the Knicks don't know that, they know the Bulls probably can't give Melo what he wants without a sign and trade, and if they can't come to terms of a sign and trade, the Bulls can't sign Melo.

You really can't compare 4 years to 5 years. You have to compare 4 to 4. Yeah, there's some risk that he doesn't get paid in year 5. But chances are that he will be making significant money. If he's still playing at a high level then, a full 20. So it would be a $40 million dollar difference...

Ifyou factor in potential increased endorsements due to the buzz of a move and more projected success (because the Knicks are starting over and who knows what they could get next year in FA - possibly striking out like in 2010, pre-Melo) along with taxes and some other factors (cost of living), that 40 million might not actually mean a lot in real terms with respect to his earnings.

You know how crazy expensive NY is, especially at the super high end. Chicago is way cheaper (for a giant city that you can drive and hour and still be in).

I don't know how Melo will look at it but if he is healthy, he should opt out after 3 years. He would probably be able to ink a relatively good 5 year deal at age 33.

The issue with NY's extra money is the security it represents. If he has a bad injury, he still gets his money. If he is healthy and has a normal Paul Pierce type decline in his 30's, the difference in money is rather small.

.....

I feel I should repeat this every once in a while. NY is the favorite for Melo. In the off chance that he wants to come to Chicago, Knick fans are drastically overestimating their leverage.

Anything the Rockets, Mavs or Lakers do will be a copy of the Bulls. They'd really have to go outside the box to one-up the Bulls.

Bulls do have the amnesty provision and I'm sure other teams would be willing to take randolph, dunleavy, etc. It's not like the knicks are the bulls' only option.

Dumb question: Can Chi just sign him outright and pay the luxury tax?

But ultimately, they are the team who needs to SIGN and TRADE him. So the Knicks are never out of the equation. If they have to take on Boozer, they get more assets. If they don't, they get less. It's pretty simple. But they'll still get something because they have to do the S&T to make it work.

So if Melo went to the Rockets how many points would they give up a game with some of those defenders? 120? 130?

Houston has maxed out offensively. I don't even know why their hands are in the cookie jar right now.

IMO, I think the Bulls might have a verbal agreement with Melo but just keeping it under wraps. Spending 9 hours with a team isn't a joke.

Now, I expect the Bulls to start making the necessary moves. By the end of the weekend or next Monday, it will be official that they have the agreement in place.

Maybe, I'm just being naive but I'm really excited!

Melo looks ridiculous in a Rockets uniform. Like everyone else.
