Could it be that the reason there isn't much Love as a Plan B chatter because Chicago isn't on his list of cities he'd be interested in playing in? I'm asking, not saying that this is case.
But, pretty sure he's California or Bust...

Guys, we have got to get a hold of ourselves. We had to expect that this thing would have many ebbs and flows. And there was always a strong possibility that he would stay in NY. I honestly feel like that was his first choice from the get go and it would be up to the teams that he visited to convince him that leaving NY (and consequently a substantial amount of money) and joining their respective teams would be the best option for Melo long term.

The way I see it, him recruiting Gasol to NY has more to do with his desire to have his cake and eat it to. If he can't get Gasol to NY, then he is still going to be forced to decide between money and winning. Right now, I don't think Melo really wants to have to make that choice. What he doesn't seem to understand is that bringing Gasol to NY represents maybe 10% of what it is going to take to make over that team. So any route that he chooses that involves him staying in NY is going to effectively mean choosing money over winning regardless of how you chop it. Whether he realizes that or not.

Pretty much. You dont break the bank for Melo.

You dont mind robbing banks for Love. Huge difference there.

Melo is a superb fit with Chicago and our defense....but not at a number greater than 20 million. Its just not worth it. Diminishing returns territory.
For love, not money.

If you think Melo recruiting Pau to NY can somehow end in Melo coming to Chicago your deluded.

Game over man. Game over.

How does opting out and going across the country meeting with rival teams improve your ability to recruit though? Other free agents don't even know if Melo's gonna stay in New York and probably wonder why he's so hesitant to just re-sign with them or just opt back in. Come on, these conspiracy theories don't make any sense. Maybe Melo really doesn't know what he wants yet but wants to have multiple strong options. :o

Anyway you look at this its a nail in our coffin. If he was prepared to leave he would not be trying to bring talent there. He could just as easily have opted out to create space for Gasol to sign.

Opted out to create 3 million in cvap space for Gasol? That's his master plan?

He doubled Melo's salary, he should pat him on the back and say get to work on my contract.

Care to tell me how the pursuit of Anthony lacked balls? There was near universal praise for the way they ran the recruiting pitch.

Melo asking Gasol to come to knicks for 3 million should be considered a great sign for the Bulls...it means Anthony is making one last desperate attempt to stay in NY and get his extra $$$$. Obviously Anthony is exhausting all possibilities to get the extra $$ before he decides to settle for another teams offer (Houston or Chicago)...the only thing that would scare me now is if Gasol resigns with Lakers and Lakers attach Randle to Nash's expiring contract in order to lure another big FA or two really good players to LA.....

Is it hopelessly optimistic of me to consider that maybe Melo is making one last "for old times sake" try to improve the Knicks roster with Pau/PJax before he just says, "Look, we've tried all we can I don't know what more we can do, I told you I would give you the last chance but we can't get better and I'm done losing so I'm off to Chicago."?

There isn't much chatter on Kevin Love at all right now, and probably won't be until the major free agent pieces start to move.

With Melo we're a contender. Without Melo we're a contender. 1 scenario puts us closer.

We'll get some nice pieces if Melo stays and we'll still be better than the Knicks. Indiana is trending down, Miami flat. We'll be fine. I want Melo but it isn't the end of the world.

At least we still got that safety mat in Noah, Rose, McDermott, Taj, Jimmy, and possibly Mirotic. Oh, and who could forget Boozer leaving! Things could be worse, much worse.

No $7m in a sign and trade for Bargnani and cash

Yet we ''can't move Boozer''?

No we can't

Why would anyone take Booze at his $16.8M cost when they can just wait until we amnesty him and sign him for the MLE and save themselves $11M ?

Only way someone cops that $11M extra effective cost of Booze ( if they want him ) is if he comes with cheap assets like Nikola Mirotic ,Tony Snell and a future 1st round pick + cash considerations that nets Boozer's effective cost down to $8M

So for $8M you are getting rights to Mirotic, Snell and a future 1st round pick , when , you also have a minimum spend to fill out your roster

Personally ....I think it makes sense for Orlando and they should jump on it

Mirotic would be a perfect fit next to Vucevic and Gordon and a future starting back court of Oladipo and Payton.

Snell brings extra shooting help in their back court next to Ben Gordon and then you've still got Harris and Harkless at forward

And you still have cap space preserved for next season when Boozer comes off the books
"GarPax played Grab Ass with Mirotic for 5 years and been in Omaha playing Hide the Salami with Doug McBuckets for the 1.5 years and they've developed feelings for him. Well, I say "F feelings and F loyalty!" I want CHIPS! Jerry Krizause
