For an answer from the Knicks on a NTC, for Bulls to get trades lined up, to see what LBJ/Bosh do, or something else.

EXACTLY. That's exactly what I thought when I saw that.

There is no doubt in my mind that Melo is waiting on LeBron. Whether it is to see if he can pair up with LeBron somewhere, whether it is to see if LeBron signs a deal with an opt out in a year or two or whether it is to see if LeBron is bolting and he can go somewhere with Pau or Bosh, LeBron will likely be the first piece to fall. Melo is holding the cards and has a choice to make, but there is no reason to rush. Most teams have LeBron as their option #1 as well and once LeBron chooses, Melo can become their new option #1.

Melo knows he is not making a decision today because LeBron won't make a decision today. As has been reported, LeBron is meeting with Riley face to face first and he is shooting a commercial today. Let the waiting continue....

I'm sorry, but this is **** hilarious. You're the same guy who bitched the last 3 seasons anytime Paxson mentioned the word 'flexibility'. What did you want the Bulls to do - trade everyone like we did in 2010, and watch Melo go back to NY anyways?

By any credible account - the Bulls had the capability to create the cap space necessary to sign Melo outright (just as Houston would have done as well). But obviously didn't want to do that - both because of the risk Melo could go elsewhere, and because putting as strong a team as possible around Melo is the Bulls biggest selling point.

I agree. Further, I'd say it was a lesson learned from 2010 not to put all your eggs in one basket. We dumped Deng at the deadline which is what put us in the position to make an offer. I think that was a good decision now because we can still get a guy like Lance or Gasol and we already have added McBuckets and possibly Mirotic.

I like the way this summer has gone thus far. It has been a positive developmet no matter what else transpires.

And so begins the annual exercise of finger pointing by people who find a way to blame the FO for not landing the big FA even though by all accounts they did a bang-up job. I guess at some instinctual level it makes us feel better to blame the FO, rather than having to accept that there are things outside of their control (wife, kids, loyalty, etc.) that play a bigger role in a FA's decision.

I'm not pissed if they don't get Melo. I'll be VERY pissed if they miss on MELO AND LANCE, considering Lance seems to be VERY AVAILABLE and we have a need for a 2ndary ball-handling wing.

I think waiting could help us eventually. Too much longer and LeBron is going to get ticked with Riley's inaction to improve the team and start looking elsewhere, and there isn't many 'elsewhere's' outside Miami where he can play with Melo. Most likely he goes back to Cleveland in that case.

That frees up Melo from our biggest competitor, Miami, and only leaves NY. I don't buy LA.

Houston and Dallas ave moved on - I like to believe if Chicago hasn't its because they're still in it. There isn't anybody we're looking at that isn't going to still be around when Melo makes his decision.

We did the waiting around in 2010 too cause we thought we were in it

Got left with boozer and mediocre talent

We signed the best FA available outside of the Big 3 (on the best deal) and picked up the best group of vet FA's. They also signed Boozer before the decision was made - so I'm not sure how they 'waited around'.

Amare, Lee, Scola, Gay, Joe Johnson, IMO were all better than Boozer. Boozer wasn't a bum but those guys were better all around players.

Could be saving Taj for a Love deal and we think he's worth being put in that.

Of course if it costs us Melo then we still don't get Love either...

When did Miami become our biggest competitor? I get that SAS is saying stuff and there is speculation, but Melo didn't even have a meeting with Miami. There is no offer from them. Not yet at least.
