Your parents are basically the same age as mine. I feel your pain and empathize with your concern. Given that there are dozens of factors that I cannot be aware of, I would exercise caution. You hate to cancel a family gathering considering there is no guarantee that you'll have the same opportunity next year, but it has to be an option I suppose. Perhaps encourage family who are not feeling 100% or who are higher risk to stay away?

Getting food delivered (or picked up) is a safer option to dining out, so good for that.

Hope it all goes well no matter how it plays out. Stay safe.

Same to all my Bulls board brethren.

yeah, i emailed my mother and suggested that she consider cancelling the party or postponing until hospitals are back under capacity, which will be weeks at minimum

just found out that my sister and her husband, who would be at the party, are in vegas this weekend. yikes

Be the voice of reason that they all roll their eyes at in the moment, but ultimately are still around to second guess you at next year's party.

Good luck.

Whatever I had was very mild- just a fever that would re-occur every evening, then go away overnight. Some tightness in the chest. No cough or anything else. My doctor said to just stay home and treat it like the flu. No tests available. I'm over it now (knock on wood), whatever it was. I'll stay in until Tuesday though, just to be sure. FWIW, I just turned 60, with no real health problems.

Got the same *exact* symptoms for the most part. A little stuffy too. Started Wednesday/Thursday for me and I haven’t turned the corner. Virtually everyone I know had some similar illness in the last 7 days. Some people cough, others don’t. The high school kids just complained of general fatigue. No one has been tested that I know of.

If it wasn’t for what was going on in the world, I would take a few Advil and go to work normally. So far, it’s scarier than it is severe.

Hopefully yours won't be any more severe than mine was. It has taken about 5 days to completely abate. And who knows, it could come back. But if it doesn't, I'm going back to work on Tuesday. My sister is a doctor, and I've been in constant contact with her, and her advice was the same as my own doctor's- you can't get tested right now, so just take precautions as if you had the flu, stay isolated, drink liquids, get plenty of rest, and get good nutrition. I was a bit nervous the first few days, but when it didn't get any worse, and I didn't start coughing, I relaxed and just waited it out. Good luck. And don't hesitate to let your doctor know your symptoms. Who knows, they may have tests ready any day now.

Well maybe it is fine if everyone is healthy. If not and your parents get corona they're in a high risk category. If they don't have any other illnesses they would still probably have a 98% chance of recovery, but the consequences if things go poorly sure seem to outweigh the benefits.

I would say it partially depends how many people come to a family party too. If it's like 10 of you, it probably is a lot less big deal than if it's 40.

the problem is, you can feel healthy and still be infected.

FWIW, I just heard from a friend, whom heard from a friend, whom heard from "someone in the know" that we will be locked down starting Tuesday. I don't know that I place high value on the information as it seems like reasonable speculation someone would make with no information based on how things are trending.

I've heard the same thing in a similar way about California being completely locked down Tuesday as well. Different kind of Super Tuesday, apparently.

We should be.

Better to be alert.

Might as well limit the spread until it subsides over time.

I’ve heard similar rumors from 2 people I know plus seen speculation on another message board from someone who claims to be in the know. A lot of smoke

my food stash is feeling smaller and smaller hearing that. I have a 12ish hour day planned at my office ti bang out some needed things then relocating to the home except maybe for an after hours trip in for stuff.

I guess that means I should maybe restock on a few more things just in case stuff gets serious.

I think it might be after Tuesday. A lockdown wouldn't surprise me. But he made a strong statement the primaries will happen. Which is kind of crazy.

No matter how serious it gets, food stores will most likely stay opened. In Italy, pharmacies and food stores are still open, despite the whole country being locked down.

My son is in law school at Loyola out there. Switched to virtual classes, which are pretty difficult for first year law material. At that point, the campus was still open, so he would go there and spend 12 hours a day studying.

Now they have closed the campus so he is sitting alone in a studio apartment 24/7 and for someone with his motor, it is driving him nuts. He is taking a lot of night drives and we have set up a skype schedule to try to keep him connected. Kind of worrisome for mom and dad, but it could be worse.

It all truly is very surreal.

that seems a little drastic at this point. We don't even know what the rate of infection is yet. Due to our lack of test kits. I'd be surprised if they went that far just yet.

Also heard same rumors in similar fashion. Tbh, I’m for it. It’d be painful, but let’s just truck through this best we can rather than drag it out longer. I think supermarkets would be allowed to remain open (similar to what Italy is doing). There’s too many undisciplined idiots out there that are ruining it for everyone. I’m honestly cool with a mandated quarantine, it’ll work.

Yep I am outta job for 2 weeks. I knew my world would take a hit but I didn't expect an absolute shut-down. My little restaurant will come back strong, but all this has been awful news for us.

It's gonna be pretty damn rough on my very thin wallet. I'll make it through ok. I have a friend whose lived in Milan the last decade doing liaison work through the Army, he has raised his kids over there. They are living in a nightmare right now - he lost a mentor and father figure this past weekend. He's heart broken, and he and his wife have two young kids quarantined in their house while he mourns.

As he said, none of us have lost anyone. He did. If all these preventative measures mean you and I don't lose someone as well, that meant it was a success. This **** is hitting me as hard as anyone, rent's due in 2 weeks, but we are all doing the right thing weathering this storm. Man I can't wait for sports to be back, though.

Sorry for the people who lost their jobs and trying to get some pay through unemployment. This situation is crazy loony tunes unprecedented. Jeezus. I've seen some vids of people who got the virus. Stuff is ugly. They're struggling just to take one breath.

Stay safe guys. Be on the cautious side. I know it's a massive inconvenience and for some a cause for financial stress, but this stuff is serious. Let's all do our part for the community and hopefully we see this through asap so things can be back to normal sooner rather than later.
