FWIW, I just heard from a friend, whom heard from a friend, whom heard from "someone in the know" that we will be locked down starting Tuesday. I don't know that I place high value on the information as it seems like reasonable speculation someone would make with no information based on how things are trending.

I think it might be after Tuesday. A lockdown wouldn't surprise me. But he made a strong statement the primaries will happen. Which is kind of crazy.

We had elections here too, every school is closed, but we go to the same schools to vote. what a farce.

just take small trip to ”Marskin maja”. And we did drive a bit just for fun. I can tell there is A lOT of people using they summer houses. Cottages are really in use. It is almost like summer time. That is good news. Mostly was older people but did see a lot of younger generation also. People were hiking, biking etc. Here is around 5cm snow and lakes have enough ice that i see people walking middle of lakes. I would not do that after this winter. Night it is like -8 but daytime +4 and sun is shining. It`s windy so it does not feel warm at all. But odd thing is your go 5km more south there is no snow at all. This is called ”Lopen ylanko area”. It is a bit higher ground and winter is like 3 weeks longer than rest of the southern Finland. We still avoid any closer contact. This is what i was planned if something goes really wrong. Seriosly i did not expect this. I miss even Bulls games.

It's very smart to use cabins now if one has such. I don't know about biking or jogging too much now if it's true what the THL aka the most official health organization in Finland said today that there is most likely 20-30 times more corona infections here than reported. It would make our infection number around 5k-7.5k right now instead of the 264.

Biking and jogging are more than fine, you dont need to start overdoing things. Just try to avoid crowds and such if possible while being out. And dont get a cold while doin so .

I also had to scare my dad and I actually just went through his age and his conditions and he agreed with all of them and I showed him the article from Italy where the doctor is going through the calculation and I basically just showed him with what he had they wouldn't even give him treatment so he doesn't want to end up there and that's where he started saying he didn't get pneumonia when he was a kid. Then I went through how that stuff is a lot easier to avoid or survive as a kid and he's on the other end of that now so I wouldn't count on the same thing happening. I think it did have an impact but he almost has to come to it himself I can't push too hard so I just went through things and let it go. I think the coverage and hopefully seeing how different things out there are will start wearing on him but it sounds like more stuff is cancelled and he is starting to watch the news so I think he's getting it but it's really tough. Then I have to try and convince the little sister but I think she's starting to get it too. Sometimes it is time to let things sink in but with how many NBA players etc that have it I think this thing is already out there at a pretty bad level so we don't have a lot of time to figure things out, people just kind of need to listen to the experts.

We almost need to make our own thread for stories how we scare our stubborn parents into believing they aren't supermen/women anymore lol.

You can try this on your dad. Tell him that even if he survives Corona his lungs might be permanently damaged after it and he might get permanent asthma for the rest of his life and basic flu will be much scarier for him after damaging his lungs for the rest of his life. I did tell that to my mother and I don't even know if what I told her are factual but at least there is more chance that she will wake up. Her 69 year old sister is completely locked up inside her own house and I tried to tell her to call her etc lol. Well that's just small part of what I've tried so far, but yes. These are some extreme cases of stubborn people and they just have to make the decision themselves in the end. It's so hard to make them listen.

I think they will find somekind of cure. Because it cost so much for every nation and company right now. If there is a will u know.. If this would only hit poor people we would never see a cure. Well i bet before summer we have nothing yet? Hopefully before next season?

I actually almost did but Sauna saved me. Now we are going to go around (Hiking) one of the most beautiful lakes in Southern Finland. Iso-melkutin

This might be one of the few times medical research has a moral obligation to search for the cure rather than the most profitable way to deal with the illness.

In Finnish news I read that some ppl had a wedding 10 days ago here in Finland and it had 96 guests and one of the guests had been in that Austrian skiing place (Tyrol or something) that is notorious covid-19 infection zone. So 23 or more people got infected in the wedding and this guy who visited Austria wasn't even in close contact with all of them. The virus basically exploded there. Bride got infected and she said that she is fine but she is worried of the elderly people who got infected in the wedding and she guessed that it was way more than 23 people that got infected there.

There has now surfaced reports from Italy and Netherlands that more and more under 50 year olds need intensive care with the virus. Percentage is now almost 12% of total people needing intensive care are under 50 in Italy.
Netherlands has between 40-50 people in intensive care and half of them are under 50year olds. There is patients that had mild symptoms and have been taking care of themselves at home 6-7 days and they have gotten worse and taken into hospital. Same kind of results have come from China that even though its been way more lethal for elderly people, 41% of serious cases have been on under 50 year olds compared to 27% of over 65 year olds.

We're experiencing an unprecedented event globally with this virus. We'll be having a lockdown where I'm at in about 30 mins, and I'm all for it. It's the best way to control the rate at which this virus spreads. It will also put a lot of stress on the economy, specially for us working class people but it is necessary.

Stay safe everyone and stay indoors as much as possible. It's the best we can do to help in this global issue.

Yep I am outta job for 2 weeks. I knew my world would take a hit but I didn't expect an absolute shut-down. My little restaurant will come back strong, but all this has been awful news for us.

It's gonna be pretty damn rough on my very thin wallet. I'll make it through ok. I have a friend whose lived in Milan the last decade doing liaison work through the Army, he has raised his kids over there. They are living in a nightmare right now - he lost a mentor and father figure this past weekend. He's heart broken, and he and his wife have two young kids quarantined in their house while he mourns.

As he said, none of us have lost anyone. He did. If all these preventative measures mean you and I don't lose someone as well, that meant it was a success. This **** is hitting me as hard as anyone, rent's due in 2 weeks, but we are all doing the right thing weathering this storm. Man I can't wait for sports to be back, though.

Sorry to hear about your hardship. I know some places are saying landlords can't evict people over rent due to corona virus. And there are some funds available in some places, too, to help small businesses hit by this. Maybe you can get some relief one way or the other. So many businesses and workers are going to be affected by this, esp. people in the restaurant/bar/entertainment business. Hang in there.

My home, LA just shut down restaurants and bars.

My son is in law school at Loyola out there. Switched to virtual classes, which are pretty difficult for first year law material. At that point, the campus was still open, so he would go there and spend 12 hours a day studying.

Now they have closed the campus so he is sitting alone in a studio apartment 24/7 and for someone with his motor, it is driving him nuts. He is taking a lot of night drives and we have set up a skype schedule to try to keep him connected. Kind of worrisome for mom and dad, but it could be worse.

It all truly is very surreal.

My wife works near the Loyala campus, beautiful place to be if you have to be stuck somewhere. I'm sure as a parent this is frightening at a completely different level. I think the Skype idea's a good one. I was talking about doing that with my parents as well.

Finally. Finland is pretty much closed. Don`t know why we have to wait this long. It was happening anyway. Now it just be worse than if we acted like 2-3 days ago.
