Except that Donovan plays Giddey at the 3, next to two guards, most of the time. Sometimes at the 4 next to 3 guards/wings. And he needs to so that Giddey is a neutral type defensive player rather than an attackable liability; the decision isn’t because of lack of forwards.

So the Bulls now have 5 forwards for Billy’s purposes, guys who will only defend the 3 or 4 absent a switch or something unique - Giddey, Matas, Essengue, Pat, and Phillips. Phillips and Pat are likely not considered locks for moving forwards.

Next to them in the backcourt are Coby, Ayo, Lonzo, Huerter (though he isn’t great at POA D), Terry and Carter. Carter is not part of any future, but I isn’t clear who among the others, if any, is “locked in” beyond this season.

I don't know about the bolded. Billy plays Giddey where he does based on the roster as it exists now. With a different roster, he may play Giddey differently. Giddey will effectively play the 1 on offense, and on defense, he's basically just put on the least threatening wing player on the other team.

I could pretty easily see a long-term lineup that was:

1) Ayo/Lonzo or whatever PG
2) Giddey (if Coby traded/not retained)
3) Matas
4) Essengue
5) Whoever is at center

That lineup could pretty well continue to hide Giddey defensively, while retaining a lot of switchability. If you have some actual rim protection at C, that's probably a good defensive team in the long-term.

If Coby is retained, then I could see the same here with Coby playing the PG, given Giddey will actually be the primary ball handler. But I really hate that defensively, which is why I'd like to trade Coby if Giddey is retained. If Coby is around, it becomes all the more important to add a rim protector.

Giddey guarded the unthreatening Luka both games last year.

Luka is an actually good physical matchup in terms of someone Giddey can defend. Similar size and speed, so Giddey just has to be disciplined. He doesn’t have to run around too many screens, and will get some help, too.

Luka, like Giddey, is “physically” a 3.

Where Giddey will have issues is guarding, say, a Kyrie, Ant Edwards or Herro or Ja or Bane or SGA etc. etc. And if it’s him and Coby next to Matas and Noa, well, one of Coby or Giddey has to match up with that high end, speed/quickness based opponent. If it is not Coby, who handles the scoring load?

Draft and stash Izan Almansa or pick RJ Luis Jr. As a two way guy.
Maybe Clifford Omoruyi as a developmental rim running center.

It probably did. The NBA is copying the NFL.

But the second round of the NBA draft is not that exciting.

But my ass will be watching it.

I'm at work, so I won't be watching but I was planning on keep up with the picks via espn website.

Yeah this is an interesting one to me.

I've seen the Dumars quote saying that pretty much since they picked Fears at 7 they were working to get back into the lottery. Now, does that mean they approached each team with the same offer? Impossible to know. Did they panic and up their offer as the draft went on, what intel did they have about teams in the 15-17 (all picked centers).

Also impossible to know what our front office thought of Essengue. As not the biggest fan, I'm all for trading back 11 spots and getting an unprotected 1st next year. But if someone is a big believer in Essengue I imagine they'd be uninterested in doing that. A bird in hand is better than two in the bush.

Also, even thouhg both front offices are new, it's interesting to me that I often feel like there's trends in which teams trade with who. Atlanta and New Orleans now across different front offices seem to trade with eachother.

We've made multiple trades with Sacramento and San Antonio in recent years

I don't know what the NBA is thinking televising the 2nd round on a separate night. The TV ratings are going to be abysmal.

They’re thinking “might as well, we don’t have any live sports to broadcast.” On Monday and Tuesday, they aired reruns of The Last Dance in prime time. Pretty slow time for sports once the NBA Finals are over until football ramps up.

"We started from 9 all the way until we got a deal" - still leaves the question, was the offer the same from 9 - 13

Or did he up it after the first few team rejected whatever his offer was at their time? Team have 5 minutes to get their pick in

It's still unclear, and always will be, if the offer he made to Atlanta was the same offer he made to others.

It is clear he made offers, but that leave a lot unkown

Minny trading out of 31 makes no sense to me. Yeah, they get future 2nds, but the drop off in talent comes fast now.

There's been a lot of trading out of this draft, pretty interesting.
Next year's draft is supposed to be much better according to Givony and other experts.
Maybe we can win next year's coin flip.

Let’s go Cash Considerations!!!

I wonder how much our ownership had thought of selling our first rounder?

Phoenix has some length on that front line with Fleming and Maluach.
