Yeah, but they become all stars in a domino effect since Rose is on the Bulls. Not taking anything from Noah and Deng, they are great, but but they are not a superst type of players. By the way, the Bulls get both on the draft.

See my point?

They became all stars because of Rose when Rose wasn't playing?

Sad that Thibs was led on and Derrick was humiliated in some sort of show&tell display...

All for a money grab.

Maybe Derrick can get back to form and shove this up their ass.

My thoughts on Melo signing with Melo:

Image
Derrick Rose will do 1 of 2 things in the 2014-2015 NBA Season: 1) Return to MVP form and prove you wrong, or 2) Fail to return to MVP form and prove me wrong. Either way, one of us will end up looking like an ***hole.

I have to admit, i really didn't think Phil wanted Melo. I thought it was all lip service and posturing for trade value. I'm surprised he would offer him the max when no other team can. It's unlike Phil not to take advantage of leverage. It would be one of the few times he has been outsmarted.

Yes they can. Amnestying Boozer puts them about $10-11 million under the cap. Chicago can give Melo that number plus the amount of contracts they're sending out.

The $16 million number makes sense if Chicago is trying to acquire another player through sign-and-trade like Gasol.

Also, don't assume Smith isn't trade bait.

The numbers have been posted multiple times, but I will put them back again, this time including Smith, and the $400K he would save. Amnestying Boozer, and renouncing the exceptions, only gets you $6.2M, under the cap. To get to the ~$10M number, also requires dropping the non-guaranteed guys, which does not have them available for trade. The following two scenarios uses them the optimal way.

Dumping all the exceptions, Dunleavy, Butler, Randolph, Snell, and the non-guaranteed guys, and getting a letter that Mirotic will not come over this season, plus the 7 holds adds to $44.9M, opening up $17.3M (My previous number was $16.9M including Smith).

The Bulls can take back the larger of that number, or outgoing salaries time 150% plus $100K, or $5M, depending if the outgoing salaries are over $9.8M.

So you have to see if you can find enough salaries to make that number greater than $17.3M.

Dunleavy, Butler, Snell, Smith, the 3 non-guaranteed guys, add to $11.8M, Randolph can not be included, unless they finish the trade under the cap, and McDermott counts as $0 in trade. At $11.8M, you use $5M, instead of 150%, so they would be able to take back a maximum of $16.8M, which is still less than $17.3M.

The most the Bulls could pay Melo, without Boozer being included in the S&T, while keeping Rose, Noah, Gibson, and McDermott, is $17.3M. If you also dump McDermott, you can get that to $18.7M, as long as you are willing to roll with Melo, Rose, Noah, Gibson, RMLE, and 8 minimum salary guys.

Sounds like a PR move to me. So when he comes to Bulls, he can at least say, "Sorry New York, at least I tried."

Who starts at SF for us now? Doubt Thibs will start Doug as a rookie.

Noah had his best year as a DPOY and a 1st team NBA guy with Rose playing 10 games and Noah/Deng were all-stars the previous year with Rose sitting on the bench.

I guess that people voted them as all-stars because of their role play or less than impressive stats when Derrick was MVP

There is nothing leaked today that is worth panicking about. If the Bulls don't get Melo, they don't get them, but I am confident the moment the Bulls realize Melo is staying they will quickly move to Plan B. As for Gasol there is no way he turns down either the Bulls or the Thunder to play for the graveyard that is the New York Knicks, especially for what amounts to peanuts to a player of his caliber/resume. That is hail mary attempt by Melo.

Maybe its a coping mechanism, but I've gotten really excited about the possibility of opening the season with the following roster.

Rose/DJ/whomever
Lance/Jimmy/Snell
McDermott/Jimmy
Gibson/Mirotic
Noah/Kaman/Smith

I think that's a very very balanced and deep roster that would likely be favorites in the East.

So basically 30+ pages in, there is basically no new news here and that there is no need to check here because there is really no new news until maybe the weekend or Monday

Too much negativity for something so predictable. Melo demanded a trade to NYK in the first place. It's to be expected he tries one last time to see the organization get off on the right foot to convince him to come back. Once Pau goes elsewhere, he could very well leave.
