That said, the Bulls would be smart to stagger minutes with rooks together to help their development. It would be funny, but could make more sense to start Hutchinson.

Same thing some said here about Lauri last year. His first 15 games: 30.9 MPG.

So, Felicio needs to punch Robin Lopez in the face.

How would that happen with Felicio in the G-League?

I just listened to the Locked On Bulls Podcast and they said Wendell Carter had more assists last season than Bagley, JJJ, and Bamba combined. This dude is very underrated.

That's good tape. What jumps out at you is that he is competitively more into the game than Ayton is.

The more I see of Carter, the more I like him.

NDave79 wrote:Here are a few videos to sort of analyze his explosion.

I will admit, that for the most part, he didn't look incredibly explosive at Duke (and I'm not trying to argue that he is). I think he was possibly playing a little on heavy side this year when I compare it with some of his previous tape.

I feel like overall, he looks a little bouncier in this highlight clip from 2016.

This next clip shows him going against Ayton where Ayton actually got the better of him, but a couple of clips show very nice explosion imo. In particular, the play at about 2:52, shows some nice explosion. Imagine Portis finishing the same play off and you can see how much more explosive Carter is than Portis (not saying anyone is really arguing that his is).

The first part of this video, goes into some detail analyzing Carter's level of explosion. He rates it at a tier below Ayton and Bagley, but still quite good (and better than JJJ or Bamba).

I think with NBA training he can become a fairly explosive player, especially for someone with his frame and girth.

Granted, the u17 games are against inferior athletes, but Carter looks great there. Looks mobile, looks long, and really strong frame.

How fluid does he look in that play at 0.22! Didn't get to see much of that at Duke.

Side Note: That pass at 2:51 by Troy Brown. Damn I wanted that guy.

I think Carter can easily be better than "the 20th best wing in the league". I looked at a list compiled by SI of the top 100 nba players in 2018, and threw out the pg's and the bigs. So after you count down to the 20th best wing, you're talking Andrew Wiggins, Harrison Barnes, Otto Porter. I think Carter's impact could easily top those kinds of players. Now he may not, but we're talking potential.

my floor for Carter is Bobby Portis. I think he'll look like what happen if we upgrade Bobby Portis with elite level tier bball IQ.

I don’t see that and these Bobby Portis comparisons need to stop. Portis is a horrible defender. WCJ was the best post defender in the nation.

People complaining about his size when he's 6'10 with a 7'4 wing span and a 9'1 standing reach and then saying he can't jump when he has a 40 inch vertical. :dontknow:

and you don't think that elite bball IQ has anything to do with it? Portis was supposed to be a lottery pick, but now we know why he's not. Portis has poor BBall IQ and has problem with controlling his emotion. Portis with elite Bball IQ is an awesome player on both ends of the floor, what's not to like about that?

just to let all know that my position with the Carter pick is that I'm a supporter of the pick. I'm throwing comparison to Portis is no meant to negatively criticize Carter. Remember that big Portis game in the series vs. Boston, if that's Carter's floor wouldn't it be cool? Obviously Carter is capable of much more down the line. But there's also reason why he's the last of the top 5 big prospect picked (Ayton, JJJ, Bagley, Bamba, Carter).

Looking forward to seeing how you guys develop! I’ll be sure to post my pre-college scouting reports for this upcoming season as I finish them.

He should start right away. We need our assets to look good. We have to encourge FAs to come here. I totally expect him to dominate summer league tho.

I'd like him to start sooner than later, but I think Pax is old school (I know he is) and he doesn't want a starting job handed to anyone. My guess is he comes off the bench as RoLo starts (out of respect for the veteran). I think/expect RoLo to mentor WCJ, and honestly I think he's the perfect veteran to help our rook.

I think we'll start with Holiday/Lauri/Rolo/LaVine/Dunn and have WCJ/Hutch/Denzel/BP come off the bench. WCJ may get bulk of the minutes at Center once he starts producing.

I don’t follow college basketball, but whatever else, you can figure Carter is smarter that most other NBA players. That’s got to be good for something. Maybe even more than lateral quickness.

Unless making the playoffs coincides with 2 players on this roster showing they are/have Superstar/Stars potential in general, then making the playoffs would be bad. Now I don't think they should shamelessly tank like last season, but I do think that they should move vets and just play the young guys. See what happens with that. If the young guys are good enough to make the playoffs, then so be it, but it shouldn't be because you played your vets and they helped you win games.

A skill that's really important. Lauri and company will really benefit from WCJ passing abilities. If you have a big man that can pass, it really opens the floor for everyone.

Now he just needs to improve his lateral quickness, which he said he's been working on, and techniques in closing out.

Exactly.

It seems to be a forgivable shortcoming for Doncic. Why not Carter, Jr.?
