It’s 4 in the morning in the UK but I’m buzzing because it seems like we got our best trade since Will Purdue for Dennis Rodman. No more of this trading two allstars who are better than Jalen Rose for Jalen Rose.
I feel like we just pulled off one of those Laker style robbery deals.

So we know that the '21 and '23 picks are Top 4 protected. If, let's say, for whatever reason, that we're back in the lottery AND we somehow luck in the top 4, what happens? Does Orlando just not get to pick?

What a great trade. I thought this was a pipe dream when I first threw this out there a few weeks ago lol. Wish we could've gotten Ennis in the deal. Very efficient backup SF. Anyway, I'm ecstatic!

I'd assume it conveys to 22'/24'. Orlando will be getting two picks somehow, bad management if not.

Major future assets!?!
He means the 2 firsts. Some fans were fully aboard the tank train and wanted to tank and be bad for the next 5 years because they pined for Cade, Mobley, Suggs and Green.
When you have the chance to get an All Star averaging 24 and 11, you jump on it
No, sorry, but that 100% cannot be it.
Because the tank train people wanted to tank for a top-4 pick... and if our pick is top-4, we're keeping it. So they cannot possibly be pissed about potentially losing a top-4 pick, because... we... won't.
It's a joke to call either of these picks or WCJ a MAJOR FUTURE ASSET. Nothing but a joke, and there's no other way to look at it.
There are plenty of Bulls fans who long ago declared that we have no future until the Reinsdorf family no longer controls the team. Changing out GarPax for AKME hasn't changed anything in their eyes, they've already long ago made it clear that the problem is JR/MR.
I don't know if that's the case with the poster you quoted, because they are on my foe list so I don't know what they usually say... but I'm willing to bet I'm right. I'm willing to bet that if you go back and check out LeslieForman's posts over the last 3 months, he had nothing but bad words for WCJ. And I'll bet he had absolutely no interest in a "soft tank" where we wind up picking 5th, 6th or 7th.
As part of the tank brigade, the reason to tank was that we had little hopes to acquire another all star caliber player. Who knew Orlando was going to give away Vuc. You can't complain when an all star falls in your lap. With some minor moves, this isn't going to be a first round exit ceiling. With another move like this, they could actually contend. Can't be upset at the move in the least bit. Even if we fail, we could easily get back what we sent out.

And as those who had enough sense to not be a part of the tank brigade said over and over and over, All-Stars become available multiple times each year. All-Stars "fall in your lap" more than once a year. You have a better chance of trading for an All-Star than getting one via an intentional tank.
A team successfully and intentionally tanking and winding up with an All-Star happens much, much less frequently than an All-Star becomes available for young talent + 1st round picks. Simple fact.

Vuc is obviously the big news here, but Aminu did just casually drop 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists in 29 minutes just two days ago vs Denver. Probably not his ideal position, but apparently he can play SF too (36% this year for Orlando, 56% last year) so he's another spot-minute option for us at the wing.

All stars become available but there is usually someone who beats out your offer. Otherwise we'd have had Harden, Holiday, CP3 to join Lavine......
The team was clearly devoid of talent. We weren't giving up much. Somehow AK swung moves without giving much to bring in an allstar and 2-3 more rotation players. This is really not a usual trade deadline for any team.

It’s top protected for both 21 and 23 so if we missed the player and get the top four picks in the lottery we keep it

Well yes but if Chicago keeps those picks, does Orlando simply lose out on any future pick made in the trade? That doesn't seem right.
It'd make sense that if Orlando misses out on the 21' pick because it jump in the top 4, it then becomes a 2022 protected pick for Orlando.

Yeah I was thinking this too, he had a good game that game and he's known for his defence so he could be a sneaky good pickup also.

And the Bulls did not trade any major assets. I'm tired of depending on the draft picks, and while this year's draft looks promosing, we don't know how the 2023 draft is going to shape out. IOW, Bulls gave up a young player, a broken player, a useful current pick and a ??? in 2023 for a 2x AS. What franchise would not do that?

Yeah there is always some sort of pick protection where it goes to the following year. I assume it is standard now

Re: Woj: Vucevic/Aminu for Carter Jr/Porter/ 2 1sts
I was so depressed about this team. Little did I know AK and crew were just waiting for the right time to strike. Let's take a minute to fully appreciate today's moves.
Not only did we get a 2nd all-star in the biggest news for Chicago since got the #1 pick for Derrick. We kept Lauri and Thad. We picked up some nice young prospects that fit AKME's criteria.
But also, we just eliminated the Magic as a rival for a playoff spot. Remember when AK said trades weren't happening because "there are a lot of delusional teams"? Since he said that the Magic have played a few good games while the Bulls have lost some screamers. Yet we're the team that winds up buyers. Arturas is one persuasive mofo.
Finally let's not forget that the Bulls getting Vuc means the Celtics didn't. Today's moves ensure the balance of power in the East tilts toward Chicago and away from Boston. I got everything I wanted for this team and couldn't be happier. We didn't just add talent but toughness and experience. This feels like the 2010 free agency that brought us Boozer & co. Only difference is the Bulls were the ones who made the best of all possible moves.

Re: Woj: Vucevic/Aminu for Carter Jr/Porter/ 2 1sts
I'm always a bit precious about giving up picks because I love the draft and the allure of young players.
That said, if we wanted to keep Lavine around, which we should, something like this needed to get done. Vucevic is a legit All-Star, great player, and it's going to be incredibly fun to have a tandem like this to watch night in and night out. Someone has to say it, but I wish we did a deal like this when we had Jimmy.
It's a substantial price to pay, and I'm not definitive on where I set value wise with this deal. What I will say, I have been a WCJ defender for basically all his time here, and I still hope for the best for him, but I'm not devastated we've lost him. He needed a change of scenery, the development since his rookie season has been basically a plateau. I think he was a lot better than people realized, and I'll miss him, but he's the sort of player you are okay with giving up in a deal of this scale.
Whatever your take is on the price we had to pay, we're going to be a pretty good team now, let's enjoy it. It's clear AK is aggressive, has a vision, and will do what it takes to get there... I'm looking forward to seeing how this roster shapes up over the next year or two.

If I were a Magic fan I would hate your FO. They were completely fleeced here. The draft picks don’t have much value because they are top 4 protected and Vucevic is ten times the player Carter Jr. will ever be. No idea how the Bulls FO pulled this one off. It’s nice to finally be on the winning side of a trade for once as a Bulls fan.

Exactly what price did the Bulls pay with this deal? They basically got rid of the trash that the previous FO left and significantly upgraded their roster. The draft picks are top 4 protected so even in the very unlikely chance that they get exercised now the Bulls would still keep them. Don’t see any downside at all with this deal.

I feel like I've read through all these pages regarding this trade so forgive me but where was it mentioned that the picks were top 4 protected?
Not that I'm doubting I just haven't seen it mentioned anywhere.
(I did see somewhere about the '21 pick being top 4 protected but not the '23 pick).
