Question for the board -

Does the hiring of Donovan change your draft approach?

It makes me want Deni even more, especially knowing Donovan knows how to develop guys.

I think Deni is the pick unless Dubs pick him. If he’s gone I think it’s Hayes and Bulls run 3 guard lineup like Billy ran in OKC w CP3 SGA and Shroeder.

Agreed. Having said that, both Hayes (P&R) and Deni (High post and short roll), most common Bulls picks in mock drafts, would be pretty interesting in Donovan's schemes from this year OKC team.
Constantly underwhelmed by the Bulls.

Donovan likes a lot of ball movement so creators and play makers will be key.

Well he likes running point guards and running a fast offense but I'm not sure much changes under Donovan as we needed that regardless of the Donovan signing.

ofc. he doesnt want to rebuild from scratch which means the Bulls guys that are NBA ready. I am a fan of trading down to get the Boston picks and pick someone who can contribute right away instead of doing nothing in his rookie contract. 14 and 26 is a terrific spot to be in. guys like Hampton, Nesmith, Mannion would be great targets.
Lamelo will be a future superstar Bull. Book it. Lavar for president!

I thought this was one of the most candid interviews I’ve ever seen about an NBA prospect. It’s a little tough to follow because it’s all subtitles, but worth the watch if you’re a fan of Deni Avidja. It explains why Deni is linked to GS and offers an interesting perspective of how the GS organization is run.

Omri Casspi thinks Deni will be a borderline all-star.

I’m not sold on Hayes. I don’t see much of a difference between him and some of the other point guards in this draft class. I question his motor, shooting, and athleticism.

Tier 1
Anthony Edwards
James Wiseman
LaMelo Ball

Tier 2
Deni Avidja
Obi Toppin

Tier 3
Killian Hayes
Issac Okoro
Halliburton
Okongwu
Devin Vassell
RJ Hampton
Cole Anthony
Saddiq Bey

It doesn't change my approach (my approach is Okong-woo!) but it seems like it'd tip the scales in the FO's approach heavily toward Hayes.

Interesting to hear from Casspi that GSW/Kerr never scrimmaged 5-on-5?

That is wild.

If what we're hearing about Donovan not actually wanting the job until hearing the FO's plans is true, I would say that there is a much, much higher chance that the pick is being traded than people think.

I agree. Who falls to Chicago if they pick Deni?

If Minnesota picks Edwards. One of Wiseman or Ball. Which is something, I guess.
AKME? More like MEAK with how they're afraid to make a move to push us in one direction.

Bridges is a better prospect from a better program tho. I knew he could be a starter who could contribute right away but thought of him as a high floor low ceiling like Hayes who cant score above 15 but still better than garbage men Carter who plays a useless position doing trivial stuff. Whether he can score over 15 is to be determined next season and tell his ceiling. Personally, he already hit his ceiling 90% and will peak at a 13/5 your typical Covington eating 40 minutes for his defense, sf version of pj tucker so to speak.

Vassell seems to have more potential due to athleticism but thats about it. Some players like Lavine never use it to maximize their game and I wonder whether he has high bbiq. He is a medium level project that could be a high end starter but much lower floor than Bridges. To me Vassell is like 9/10 athleticism, 8.5 shooter, and a plus defender. Nothing too crazy or extraordinary but great value for mid to late lottery. If he learns how to use his gifted athleticism like Westbrook did to score 20ppg+ instead of camping at the 3pt line, thats where he begins to shine but thats very unlikely I peg it to 5% chance.

I agree Bridges came from a better program, but Vassell outplayed Bridges in his second year and has much more athleticism. Him and Deni are real close IMO.

Pro Comp: Danny Green/Mikal Bridges/Paul George

Lexluthor wrote:I don’t understand the love of Mikal Bridges on this board . He is a mediocre player

TheSuzerain wrote:Isn't Vassell's wingspan like 6'10"?

It's doubtful he's going to be the wing defender Bridges is with his 7'1" wingspan. Those are freakish dimensions.

Vassell should not be in consideration at 4.

I wrote on the comparison here:
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1985865&start=1600#p84604164

In short, bridges isn't just a mediocre player. He's well in the path of a very valuable player and I think vassell is a better prospect than him.

Ball --- In which case, I think we should trade back w/ New York for no. 8 & no. 27

Then I would target these players at their draft positions ---

No. 8
Devin Vassell
Aaron Nesmith
Tyrese Haliburton

No. 27
Leandro Bolmaro
Desmond Bane
Grant Riller

Return to Chicago Bulls
