OT: Grammar School Shooting in Connecticut

I honestly can't believe people are politicizing this already.

Seems like a relevant thing to be talking about. Real gun laws would help make things like this a lot harder.

It reads to me:
"Ha ha, I was right!" - From the gun control people
"C'est la vie" - From the anti-gun control people

Like I said earlier, this is freaking me out. I'm just imagining finding my kids in a pool of blood. I think I'm going to log out now. At least for me, not a time for policy discussions.

I don't know how you are seeing it this way. Everyone is appalled. This is unbelievably brutal. How can you think people in favor of gun control are thinking, "Ha ha, I was right!" I don't know how you could possibly think that. This is terrible. The word terrible doesn't even do it justice. Innocent young children have been slaughtered.

A law enforcement official says the suspect in the Connecticut school shootings is 24-year-old Ryan Lanza and that his younger brother is being held for questioning as a possible second shooter. The law enforcement official says the boys' mother, Nancy Lanza, works at the school as a teacher.

The official also said Ryan Lanza's girlfriend and another friend are missing in New Jersey.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the official said the suspect is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because the source was not authorized to speak on the record about the developing criminal investigation.

Was he?.... and how are we sure this is what he used? Cause somebody on another board posted it? And why would it matter if it was that or this one below?

Why does it matter what the gun looked like?

They are the same thing with a different style. One sold as a hunting rifle, or "Ranch Rifle" the other as a "personal home defense weapon". Both use the .223 cartridge and fire the same bullets.



My point is... why get caught up in what the gun looks like or any of that noise? This was the act of a sick, sick person and we don't even know any facts yet.

It doesn't strike me as dumb/lazy. Two weeks ago the owner of that Twitter page wrote "i would actually love if the world ended in 2 weeks.. #f**klife." If that's just a coincidence, then... smh.


I'm more shaken by this incident than I've been in a long time. Sick to my stomach. Similar to coldfish's reaction of imagining one of my kids being part of that carnage. Just devastating.

Johnny, we are on a message board discussing this event in real time as the investigation begins. This is how we will learn what's true & what's not true.

Just ask GBLL, Lobos, Panther, Magilla, Dice-man, & other posters how things went during the beginning of the Trayvon/Zimmerman thread. Some info will be right, but some will be wrong. It still makes for a healthy debate on the issues, which allow all involved to learn a thing or two.

The dead body found in an apartment, it seems, was his brother. So he went to the school, and killed his mother there.

I really, really, really, really hate the fact that the shooter is dead. He got off way too easy.

I disagree. If INSANE F*D up tragedy is what it takes to talk about reducing the availability of guns, REAL SCREAMING PAIN, then bring it on. Cuz this is just going to keep on happening unless dipsh*ts who won't negotiate on gun laws have no option. Sad but true, so very very sad.

I just don't see how much gun control can affect stuff like this. As I quoted from before, both New Jersey and Connecticut are ranked in the top 5 of this country in gun control.

The problem is deeper than gun control. The problem is our violent, war obsessed, and revenge obsessed country. And what's making it worse is how people are treating one another in this country.

Gun control seems like a distraction really. I'm sure more reasonable gun control laws will help somewhat, but the amount of attention it gets compared to the more significant causes of the problem really inhibits actual progress, IMO.

You're not wrong. It's a combination of things. Like Coldfish said, if someone really wants to kill someone they will find a way. That being said, gun control isn't enough. There needs to be a ban on guns all together.

I wasn't referring to you, I was referring to the people who do this in general. Whether it's in the media or just some guy looking for the guy on Twitter. I know you weren't the one who initially posted it, but you assumed it was him and shared it here so naturally yours was the post I quoted.
