so are you at medical school or chemical eng. school? Your post doesn't make too much sense. If you are in med school overseas, you should most likely just leave unless you are in the '"big 4" of the caribbean. Sounds like you are an undergraduate by your tone/grammar etc. Med school students write at a higher level, unless english is your 2nd language? Anyways, I wish you luck either way. You should leave and enjoy YOUR life. You don't need to "obey" your father. You can support yourself through stafford loans and such if needed. Be a man, grow up a little and do what you have to do. That's real, honest advice.

I'm at med sxhool overseas; I went directly from HS. That's exactly what I am doing when I get the opportunity on the 12th.

Hey all, just an update:
I just talked to my dad, I'm scared I'm not going to the US. I told him if he doesn't give me a ticket, then I'll tell the embassy everything.

He said ok go ahead and we'll tell him about your poor grades (the grading system is a way different format and there is no multiple choice) and your lack of attendance (I've been really sick) at this institution also we'll show him texts about you getting angry with us.

Also he said he is going to show the local police (from IL) my old phone that has texts about weed ex asking how much for a half zip etc...

Mind you, I have two main charges against them: 1) not giving me my passport & 2) grandpa threatened to kidnap me and God knows what will happen then.

I'm going to send an email to the us embassy tonight itself just to be safe highlighting everything that's happened.

My mom and grandpa apparently came and are coming on the 12th to pick me and my friend here up to go to a hotel.

I'm really scared to go in the car with them after we drop off my friend at his place but I have no other mode of transport.

Definitely don't worry about the weed. Nothing will happen to you regarding that.

Make sure you let the US Embassy know your mom and grandpa are picking you up so they know something has happened if they suddenly stop hearing from you. This entire situation just sounds bizarre to me.

His reasoning is that it shows my bad character and apparently I am using my phone too much.

Not worried about the weed anymore and even if something happens, I'm at a point where I'm okay with it.

I just told my dad, why he is putting me through this bs and just to send me home. I need some time to just watch the bulls and play ball; get better from this environment.

I'm planning to go to med school and join the army as a med doctor eventually - they said they'll pay for school... it made me realize how great America is, even with all its flaws.

Your dad is so clueless. The embassy is there for the purpose of helping you. Even if you were to have "bad character" and be skipping school and smoking weed, they'd help you just the same.

It sounds like he's confusing the embassy staff which work FOR YOU with the **** up school authorities and police and government where you are in school. I guarantee the embassy staff could give a **** what any of these crazy people have to say about you and if anything, they probably despise those people in their minds and will be very sympathetic to you.

Good luck bro. Stay safe.

Yeah, I just laughed when he said that. Only thing I'm worried about is that I'm going to be in a car with my grandfather who threatened to kidnap me.

So your mother and grandfather are picking you up and taking you where, to the airport to fly home?

It's hard to imagine your mom would harm you. Not impossible, but highly unlikely.

Your family is just having a collective panic attack over their inability to control you. They're acting crazy, but I understand that they are just terrified (and somewhat rightly so) that US society and culture will ruin you as a person. I think that they all have high anxiety and are just thinking that the ends (you turning out as a good and responsible person) justfiy the means (them being crazy and threatening).

Just know that everything is seriously probably going to be just fine. When they pick you up and try to guilt trip and shame you in the car, just explain that their reputation simply doesn't matter in the way that they are afraid it does, because the crazy judgemental people who will condemn you for this non-story are foreigners that don't affect the life of your family.

Is your grandpa American or is he a local where you are?

Sounds like they're all just wrongly embarassed at what people will think when they find out you left the school. Nobody else really matters. **** em all. Your family will see this within a few months and then they won't even care.

God knows, I asked her when I'm getting my plane ticket and she said that her and my grandpa are going to "discuss some things with me". I told her to say what this discussion is but she wouldn't say... I called my dad and he also said a "discussion first, then we can discuss about a ticket and that my grandpa is going anyways at the end of the month. But after this 12th, if I go back to this hell hole, I'm trapped until May.

I just need to pass the gates and I'm free on the 12th...

It's hard to imagine your mom would harm you. Not impossible, but highly unlikely.

My whole family sounded psycho on the phone; I'm worried about this discussion but got a back plan to bolt to the embassy.

My grandpa is American but lived here until the 80s.

There's a 99% chance that they are just going to sit down with you and try to rationally convince you to stay in school there, now that they desperate threats haven't worked. But yes, be ready to bolt on a moment's notice just in case they try something sinister. It really is extremely unlikely but be ready with your ID and cab money (all the money you have should be on you hidden and secure) just in case.

Yes, I'm going to finish packing everything tonight itself and there is no way in hell I'll come back here once I get past the gates.

Will do man. I told my mom, me and my friend will hire a taxi and she's like nah we'll bring a car. I told her I'll stay at this kids apartment and she's like no to that as well.

I don't like how I kept asking her questions about when I'm coming back, where's my tickets, itinerary etc and her response "we will think about it, we will discuss it" to all the questions. It was really weird and suspicious.

Thanks for your prayers and all your help so far Red; I really appreciate it b.

I aint even gonna lie I would check the car before i get in. To be honest I would conceal a weapon if possible. If she was being straightforward I wouldn't even have typed that but that scenario just seems off.

I'll be good until my friend is dropped off; he'll be with us and I think if they would try something, it will only be after he is dropped off at his place.

I'm thinking of just crashing at his place, what do you think red?

Does the friend communicate with your family or does he know about the situation? If he is trustworthy why not? It sounds more beneficial for your safety.

Seriously, you need to do the following:

PM the below details to one of our mods whom you trust:
Name, Age, City you are in at present, Country and the school you are in.

I am not feeling comfortable with this whole thing...there are way too many atrocities perpetrated on young adults and women...all in the name of honor. **** that.....send someone your personal info right away MnM.
For love, not money.

I mean this with all due respect, but it seems odd to ask someone else if *you* should get into a car with your family or crash with your friend. How are any of us going to provide any real answers? What about your friend's safety? Should he even be entering the car? Are you putting him in harms way?

Many of us use RealGM to suss out things in our personal life, but at the end of the day this is a basketball message board. I would hope that you're not just putting your energy into this thread, and are also talking to people who personally know you. If this is as dire and real as you are telling us, it seems really important that you tell people you know and trust what's going on in case something actually happens. Have you tried contacting your local police department?
