The assistant general manager of the Bulls who supposedly leads the analytics effort per his LinkedIn (Steve Weinman) only has a degree in journalism (???).
Like honestly what the ****.

How is that? I'm genuinely curious, because the way I see this, the deal was about Rockets paying for their own and the Bulls open roster spot, as the Bulls got rid of Brooks for free.
From the basketball's perspective, travel is a nice pause from being pounded to the floor.

And 2 out of 6 are franchise players....I'll take that.
And they're an Embiid injury away from no man's land

Analytics told them to draft Embiid and Simmons?

I agree. After reading and understanding the trade... I don't understand how anyone could rip the front office for this one. It's just ragging on them for the sake of ragging on them.
I don't like Pax and Gar either, but you can't really reasonably get on them for this one.
They didn't want Marshon Brooks, so they basically just got his and MCW's contract paid for by the Rockets, and freed up a roster spot to get a look at some 10 day contract guys. And they didn't sell a pick here either. They only added a pick because you can't make a trade with another team without sending something back. It's so highly protected they will never get that pick.
So I don't understand what the problem is here with some people with the move. Other than I was confused at first when I saw we traded for MCW again, but now I understand.

From how I understand it, this deal is strictly a business move for cash considerations. What exactly is the end game here for the Bulls? In my opinion it is about lowering their out of pocket expenses by lowering their payroll. The Bulls are not going to do anything with their open roster spots. Probably fill it with some G League players that will be out of the league in 2 years.

That’s exactly the point. The Bulls are more interested in getting other teams to pay for their contracts to save money than actually trying to have a solid plan to make this team a contender. Their first priority has always been about saving or making money. They preach patience and then never end up doing anything. They blow up a team just to create another threadmill team.

Missed in all this is that they are missing the chance to waive Archi before his contract becomes guaranteed. I love Archi, but alas, he's not Kirk II.

When people don't truly understand the trade, and yet their first reaction is "f***k you front office and ownership!!", the Bulls really have no one else to blame but themselves.
They've put themselves in this position, when fans first inclination is to be repulsed and disgusted about a move, any move. It's the sad reality.

Plenty of things to blame them for but fan ignorance isn't one of them.

Yeah a lot of handwringing over a move that was essentially the Bulls getting paid to waive MCW and Marshon Brooks with literally giving up nothing whatsoever....

Our analytics department from what I can tell consists of 2 guys: 1 with a Bachelors of Science in Math and 1 with a masters in Business Analytics.
The Sixers Analytics are led by PhDs and have a department of 10 or more.
You get what you give.
It would be more interesting to know what this looks like around the league instead of in one organization. Bloated organizations also frequently make really poor decisions. I can't imagine what you would possibly need 75 people for in basketball operations to be honest. I do think having more guys in analytics would be good.
I used to do work for NBA teams in analytics, and it was shocking how different teams were in this area.

This guy Cash Considerations must be a hell of a scorer and defender. Too bad he never gets action.

I agree, and what this does is out people's agendas. And blaming the FO while saying they are under constraints from a cheap owner doesn't make sense to me. Like, if they fire Pax, JR will open his wallet! We can be the Knicks!

I'm totally fine having other teams pay for contracts of MCW and Marshon Brooks and not have them on the team. One player who down right sucks and another who was playing in like China or wherever he was the past few years.. Why would you not want to do that? When they were just contract fillers to get picks. Now they have an open roster spot to sign young players to 10 days contracts, or make a trade with another team before the deadline and take on an uneven amount of extra players. It's completely smart and reasonable.

Did the Bulls have to use a trade exception? I'm not complaining, just curious.

This. And the funniest thing is that it's most likely the Rockets who reached out to a bunch of teams for the very purpose of saving a bunch of money. And if Bulls got the deal, it's probably because they were the "least greedy" out of all potential trade partners.

in moves like this your history precedes you, sounds like it was a positive deal for Chicago here, but i get why the first reaction is anger from Bulls fans.
