I wouldn’t be surprised to see a large fine and forfeiting 2022 first rounder.

They can void the contract.

I like the quote- it makes me chuckle. And it was/is pretty much true.

Re: WOJ: NBA opening up investigations into possible tampering violations on Ball trade
I don't understand how it's tampering if it's a sign and trade. In a sign and trade isn't it legal for NO to give the Bulls permission to work out a deal to complete a trade?
I said this a bunch during the regular season, the NBA is basically feeling like the WWE. Just like the officials control games, they are controlling who is allowed to tank and who isn't. (We were one of the few teams to ever get a warning on tanking). Now they get to decide who is allowed to tamper and who isn't. You can't let Lebron's teams cause havoc all over the NBA for years by controlling where players go and not have any consequences and then call out other teams for this.
It's just like Lebron is able to run up and down the court complaining about a call over and over again and rarely gets a technical, but other players will just give the ref a look and get a technical. Completely biased unlevel playing field.
IMO, The federal government should be getting involved and doing it's own investigation on the NBA's gambling connections.

I also wouldn't be shocked at all that this is simply a dog and pony show to keep other teams satisfied because other execs are complaining

Second, don’t do this MLB steroid era thing where you know exactly what’s going on and only pretend, selectively, to get your panties in a bunch.
I mean, I watched the “free agent frenzy” special on The Jump, and for an hour before free agency officially opened they’re telling us “in 30 minutes we’ll have deals to announce” and then 15 minutes, 10 minutes, 5 then 1. They are literally telling us they will immediately have deals to announce and even had this stupid smoke machine to set off whenever they would announce the trade.
And this is the NBA’s primary television partner. Come on. Be real. How dumb do you think we are?
Completely agree, evolve NBA, understand this and the trade deadline are some of the absolute highs of your sport when it pertains to interest. Just let it happen.
That’s kind of my point. They do know and they do let it happen. They also know they and their partners benefit from the theatrics of these deadlines. They just selectively pretend to care every once in awhile to support the appearance that they disapprove.
They don’t actually disapprove though. It’s all a sham.

Re: WOJ: NBA opening up investigations into possible tampering violations on Ball trade
So the league "voids" the trade and then the Bulls just make it again? Surely there aren't rules on the books that prevent RFA/FA players from accepting contracts? Does the NBA have the authority to prevent a team from signing a player or trading certain players?
Nothing will likely come of this but it's akin to how the league enforced anti-flopping rules. They are willing to issue a 15k fine to Josh Okogie but are radio silent when Lebron is throwing himself to the floor.

Chicago is Silver's whipping boy again, just like in the Doncic draft.

Interesting that Temple is wrapped up in this since he is a VP in the Players Association.

If they seriously punish the Bulls (not a just a slapped hand and a fine, but real punishment, like suspensions and contracts void), there's no point watching the league anymore. They already choose the players and teams that get the benefit of the call on games. If this goes through, we might as well watch the WWE.
Constantly underwhelmed by the Bulls.

Yep. One thing that has been consistent with Chicago is that the NBA, sports “journalists”, and broadcasters (Van Gundy, Wilbon, Stephen A…. etc) have kept the Bulls FO villain narrative going ever since the dynasty “break-up”. You even see it on this board by “fans” that seemingly, and consistently for multiple years, only post Bulls hate posts. The NBA could easily come hard on Chicago, and outside of Bulls fans, nobody would bat an eye… hell it’d likely be celebrated and turned into more national Bulls bashing.
not pointing out anyone on here for their post history, if you take it that way, it’s likely because you know who you are.

Has a deal ever been voided because of tampering before? I can't recall.

Meanwhile Lebron and his bff actually own one of the biggest NBA agencies in Klutch. The horse was already out of the barn years ago on this type of stuff.

If this trade gets voided or we are punished outside of monetary means, my interest in watching the NBA would definitely go down. All the teams do this. It's no where near what Clippers were doing with Kawhi/Toronto a few years back. Ball didn't even want to play for the Pelicans, it's not like we poached him.

Deals have been voided for violating the CBA. But I’m not aware of any in which the violation was tampering.

Re: WOJ: NBA opening up investigations into possible tampering violations on Ball trade
This must be the reason why all the Bulls S&T:s are not official yet. Bulls organization has probably known about this investigation for a few days already and maybe haven't gone through with Lauri's S&T yet because of it. Probably all their deals have been more or less tampered , like most of the deals involving any teams, I wonder if the NBA investigated AKME:s phone call records and emails ? Hope they just get fined. Maybe the NBA wants to set an example this year trying to end tampering. There is a good reason why it is not allowed, but probably very difficult to control, that's why everyone is doing it. Blaming Lauri or league conspiracy against the Bulls for this is ridiculous.

Tampering my a@@ this has been well over 6 months into working, again Ball was restricted free agent if NO wanted to match his offer sheet they had the right to do so. They choose not to - moving on from something is part of a process. Lets not bring ALL of the unrestricked free agents that decide they future well ahead of free agency by that merrit ( hint: 2010 )
