January: 1.8 3PA/G, 40%
February: 2.0 3PA/G, 28%
March: 3.0 3PA/G, 50%

Through 8 games in March he has hoisted up 24 3P attempts. This is already more attempts than any month this year. I check the numbers all the way to last year, so far this is the most 3s he has ever taken in a month in a Bulls uniform (previous high was November 2021, he attempted 2.8 3s/game, but only hit it at 33% clip).

If DeMar is finally really getting comfortable with the 3-shots, this could be huge.

He needs to shoot 5 per game.

That would take us from least amount of 3s to middle of the pack.

I haven't looked it up, but in this recent spurt, lots more of DeMar's 3s seem to have come out of the corners. If he can keep being effective there, it pins down a defender and really opens everything up.

Realistically this is what will happen:
- continue to play well and move up to the 8th seed
- lose both play-in games to miss the playoffs
- 14th pick goes to the Magic
- blazers miss the playoffs and keep their pick
- head into the off-season directionless without much flexibility or assets

Did any tank supporters actually believe the Bulls were going to tank though? Pretty sure most or all of those folks gave up once the trade deadline passed.

The mistake had already been made at that point, and tanking was no longer an option. I assume most of us still watching are rooting for wins at this point.

It is what it is, boys.

In the end, hopefully we make a 1999 Knicks run.

Or not watching as winning now won´t make much difference on being out of the playoffs at the 1st round at best.

Isn't that more or less the same distance as most of his long 2s anyway? He's shooting 42% from 20-24ft (most probably contested) so it's not like that distance is out of his range; it's just worth 50% more.

Okay, I decided I couldn’t just disregard the merit of a stat without looking at it (again, I’ve done this before in the past). And when I looked at it I was not shocked to learn how wildly dependent on role and who you share the floor with it is, which is why I disregard it. Pat has proven an excellent example of the flaw (in a way that makes Pat look good).

In the last 11 games since Pat has been moved to a reserve (like Javonte) Pat’s net rating is +7.4 and as a reserve his +/- during that stretch is +8.2. This is despite his general individual stats remaining largely static except field goal % which has gone up.

P.S. Pat’s net rating for the season is -2.8 and Javonte’s is +6.9. So using Pat’s numbers in Javonte’s role Javonte should not ever play because Pat is clearly better. (I don’t actually believe that argument because it’s terrible.)

You are also missing the point. Last year, as a starter, Javonte had a +3.5 on/off. He also was the best PF on the team this season until he got hurt, and BD had installed him as the starter, which unfortunately was interrupted because Green was hurt in his first game in the starter role. Javonte ought to start and PWill ought to come off the bench.

His stats last year are irrelevant and even if they weren’t his +/- as a starter was a meager +0.1.

And look, I don’t care about the on/off stuff anyway. It’s nonsense even when it supports my boy Pat. I don’t use arguments just because they might be convenient to my conclusions. I use ones that make sense. And I just illustrated how this particular stat can artificially inflate a players value based on these factors.

You guys can use it all you want, but it’s trash.

Don’t worry, on/off is only one of a multiple reasons why, when healthy, Javonte should start and PWill should come off the bench. I see from your other posts that we are in agreement that Pat should be coming off the bench.

As long as those extra attempts are open looks I'm fine. DeMar have been spotting up more lately and I would love to see Billy continue that trend. It caught defenses off guard, not expecting DeMar to spot up, and it puts pressure on defenses trying to double up on Zach.

I'd be okay with that if I thought there was potential for growth and it was something to build on for next year. However, I think there's a chance that the team might be worse next season (unfortunately).

Yeah, I agree. If things continue on as they have post All Star Break, and all we are is the second best team in the league in net points differential, what’s the use? Might as well blow it up and embark on an exciting six-year tank. Can’t wait!

I actually like Demar shooting 3s from the corner or doin the catch into the step in 3. I think he should be shooting about 4 or 5 a game and that should help spacing even if he shoots them below avg at like 32%.
