What type of contract is Coby like to get, and what would you be happy with?

Moderators: HomoSapien, Ice Man, Michael Jackson, dougthonus, Tommy Udo 6 , kulaz3000, fleet, DASMACKDOWN, GimmeDat, RedBulls23, AshyLarrysDiaper, coldfish, Payt10

Extension number you'd be happy with?

20-25 million per season (unlikely to get it done)
12
33%
25-30 per season (I think this is plausible depending on his affection towards this team)
11
31%
30-35 per season (this is the range I'd bet that he is looking for)
3
8%
35-40 per season (unlikely to be offer by any team)
1
3%
The number doesn't matter, it's time to move on and get any assets possible for him and move in a new direction

25%

Coby White? The only good player on the team? He's not even the best player on the team. That Giddey guy says hi.

josh was actually approaching those same numbers in Feb/March. Basically, they accounted for about 60% of the Bulls possessions while in the game. But I am not disagreeing. The Bulls don't have a number 1 option right now. Eventually that needs to be a player not yet on the team, with Giddey as the #2, Matas as the #3, and Coby as the super 6th man. At least offensively, that could work. If only we had a guy who could consistently put up 20+ a game on consistently high efficiency, and score from any level of the court.

Agreed. If Coby is gonna be part of the core, let's pay him to be a 6th man of the year type guy. I think he could fill that role. 20 mil per year. He's not built to be the #1 option on any Championship level roster.

This is probably obvious, but anyone who feels Coby is best as a 6th man, should be 200% on the let's trade this guy now, even for 2nd rounders because he's not staying for that job and he'll take less money elsewhere where he will get a starting job.

I buy that, Sco. I'm on that train. I want a more defensively sound starting lineup. Giddey on the other team's SF. Whoever is playing SG guarding the other team's PG. The SF guarding the other team's SG. Coby would be the ultimate bumslayer off the bench. He lacks the quickness to guard SGs, much less PGs. On any night that he isn't doing a great Zach Lavine imitation on offense, we're sunk because you know he ain't gon be making it up for it on the other end. I love the player Coby has turned himself into but I don't project a whole lot of improvement beyond where he is now. That's a top half player in the league, and a dude who would own the 6th man of the year award for the next five years but not a starter. If we give him starter type money, we're locking him in for a role he's ill suited for. I loved the idea of signing DDR and I also loved re-signing Zach. But we gotta think about what's needed for players to mesh well with each other.

Yeah, I'm not looking for a 6th man when we don't have a 4th man.

 Touche. I actually feel you on that, Sco, but I'm betting we can get that fourth and fifth man. They may not have Coby's level of firepower when he's hitting on cylinders, but they may be more cohesive and complete for the team as a whole. But it's true that we don't have a fourth or fifth man yet. C'mon AKME! We're rootin for ya!

Coby is a very nice 3rd option scorer, or an OK second option. He's a passable first option at the nba level. Factor in his sub par defense, I'd say he's a 3rd-4th best player overall on a title team. At say a 190 mil hypothetical payroll in next years dollars, I'd want to pay my starters around 155 mil, with a mere 35 mil for the rest of the roster. To me that means I think Coby should make hopefully no more than 35 mil. If we have say one guy making like 45 mil in next year's dollars, two guys at 35, and two guys at 20 each, I think that's doable. I think if Coby improves next year I'd go to 35 mil. If he plays amazing obviously higher. If he takes a step back it'll suck and I probably won't go above 20 a year on him and let him walk if needed.
