I think he might surprise people on the next level. He's developing and could be better than just a "3 and D" player like many are calling him. Plus is a good 3 and D player all that bad? Sure it's no superstar, but a player with that skill set can help any team (and good 3 and D players are rare. Usually a player is good at one and not the other).

What if he’s a prime Ariza? That’s a great piece

We still need a core. A prime Ariza is still a role player. We need top 3 option talent.

Ideally....yes. But I'll take the best player we can get.

He could be the best we can get and still not be a great piece. That's why we are tanking our asses off right now. We don't want to be stuck with Trevor Ariza.

Looking at upperclassmen who had roughly Mikal's stats (16+ ppg, 40% 3P, 1.5+ spg, 1.0+ bpg) turned up an interesting list of comparable college players:

- Shane Battier
- Danny Granger
- Robert Covington
- James Jones
- Wes Johnson

Now that I think of it, he does remind me a lot of Wes Johnson who went #4.

Of course we want better, but it all depends on how the lottery ends up.

I'm hoping The Bulls somehow get Doncic, but I have a feeling he'll go before our pick.

That’s not the reality of where we’re drafting. You're very like stuck with a bust.

I think Ariza is Mikals floor.

Ayton seems like the player who is the surest bet to go top 2 or 3. I don't think I've seen one mock where he falls lower than that. All the rest, you see occasionally dropping to 5 or 6 or even I saw Bagley at 8 recently in one. So he's the one guy we won't have a shot at unless we move up or get lucky at the lottery. All the other top guys- Doncic, Bagley, Porter, JJJ- I could see falling at least to 5 or 6.

If we end up at 6 or 7, then you just have to take whoever falls, unless the FO really doesn't like them, which I can imagine only happening with Young, and possibly Bomba. Otherwise, if Bagley or Doncic or JJJ or Porter is there when we pick at 5 or 6 or 7, we just go BPA. And I'd be thrilled to get any of them. Although JJJ probably less so, as I'm less convinced of his upside.

I think a lot of questions would be asked if the Bulls took Bagley before Ayton, assuming both were available. (Un) Luckily that's not likely to be a problem for us.

Sure there might be, but I have liked Bagley more than Ayton since the start of the college season, and it wouldn't surprise me if a team viewed Bagley as having more potential.

I'd be happy with any of the big 7 excluding Trae Young. I'm not even considering Doncic as a realistic option right now.

We don't know where we are drafting yet. We are very close to bottom 5 now. 6th is my realistic hope to get guy with high upside not named Trae Young.

The Big 7 are...?

Ayton
Bagley
Doncic
JJJ
Bamba
Porter
Young

Or does Young not count? Am I missing anyone?

I seem to be in the minority but I'm not sold on Porter. I don't trust his injury and wish he'd play at least a bit at the College level.

I basically agree with you and would be happy with any of the 7 that I mentioned (excluding Young and being hesitant on Porter for reasons I stated above).

Yes that is my Big 7. Porter might play tomorrow....

If you swing too hard for the fences, you'll strikeout.

I think Ariza is a reasonable floor for Bridges at this point. Bridges upside is a premier two-way talent, who can play multiple positions. He doesn't have the ball skills to be a star, but if he ever developed them...watch out.

I was more comparing him to guys rated above him than making a reach below him. Take if him if he is the best talent available. I just would not be excited about it.

I have Carter, maybe Mikal Bridges too, over Young. As far as who I'd take at 7 or 8 and the rest of the 6 are gone. Better fits for us and while its not likely to be sexy, it'll make us better immediately.

Hoping for any of the 6 over these options obviously.

Personally, I'd move Portis, plus 7 or 8 to get anywhere in the top 6. And I'd move a top 5 protected pick next year, if it'd move us into the top 3.

Dunn/Grant
Lavine/Valentine/Holiday
Mikal Bridges/Nwaba/Holiday
Lauri/Bobby/Vonleh
Lopez/Gafford/Bobby/Felicio

sign me up-I'm fine with that. That team makes the playoffs next year

No ones floor is “ten year starter” and then doesn’t go top 3 or even top five in this draft. In fact, there’s no way a guy like Bridges (low recruit, big upperclassman year) has a floor that high.

Ariza was a far better athlete at that age so him being a good defender was more likely. And that’s not to say the comparison between the two (especially current Ariza value v Bridges value) isn’t a good one but it’s just not his floor.

Bridges is intriguing, just not sure about his upside. I believe Carter has more upside if both are available with our pick.

I think Mikal can be a smaller Shane Battier who was freaking awesome and a + winning player, the lack of girth/sheer size compared to Battier is my only concern, Shane was 6'9 230, Mikal is 6'7 210, Bridges has length on him to be sure though.

Something between Battier and Covington would be my guess.

Moving Portis would be very dumb in my opinion ! I would be very happy with Mikal Bridges landing with us..
