These guys are all so incredibly effective at maximizing inherently flawed rosters that people get fooled into thinking their teams are somehow just a new coach away from winning a title.

We've seen what happens when they leave. Their teams do not, in fact, improve one bit.

The thing is, you wouldn't see Thibs/D'Antoni play Khris Middleton, the teams best player in the series so far, only 33 minutes. Foul trouble or not, that can't happen. You have to trust your main guys here IMO. Bud has always struggled to do that. They have used 159 different 5-man-lineups through their first 7 playoff games, by far the most of any team in the league.

I'm not saying changing coaches would make the Bucks better, it's just that little things like that really matter in the playoffs and Bud has never adjusted. It obviously doesn't help that the team looks kind of disinterested since entering the bubble. The Bucks roster is flawed, sure, but it's still clearly better than the Heat roster. The players have to be better, but the same goes for Bud IMO.

Siakam is probably the best player in the series, but not by much, and the Celtics figured out that if you cover him with a 3 he loses his offensive edge.

And, even if Siakam is the best player by a small margin, players 2-4, at their current levels of play) would be Tatum, Kemba, and, yes, Brown, followed by old man Lowry, FVV, old man Gasol and at times old man Ibaka, then Marcus Smart and then OG. And speaking of OG old man Lowry... gutsy

What's your tool of measurement? Anecdotal?

In almost advanced category except shot-blocking, Tatum, Brown and Kemba are each individually better than Siakam. VORP, PER, TS Added, as well as PPG. Jaylen is about on par with PER.

Siakam IMO is the 4th best player in the series, and he's had a much worse post-season than last year.

By "in the series," just want to clarify that I didn't mean how he's playing in the series, but overall between the two teams based on their play this season.

Siakam put up 23, 7.5, 3.5 as the best player on the 2nd best team in the east with such weak wing play that they need to start two PGs. While his efficiency went down (from 63% TS last season to 55% this year), that was in conjunction with losing Kwahi and having his usage go up from 20.8 to 28.1%... He's the primary option, without a ton of help. And PER to me is a pretty meaningless "stat" - it's just an amalgamation of other stats weighted in a certain way, but I don't agree with that weighting. It's useful as a snapshot of general productivity - not as a comparison tool unless there are huge differences. Similar, and in fact greater, issue with VORP. As for TS - it means something - but Norm Powell was 62% TS... so what exactly does it mean?

Tatum has marginally better stats, both volume and per minute wise, but it's within the margin of error.... and Boston (1) wasn't as good, and (2) he had the benefit of Walker (who is significantly better than Lowry, particularly at this point in their respective careers), Jaylen Brown (who is significantly better than, say, FVV), Hayward when he was healthy (who is significantly better than OG or Powell, whomever you'd comp him too), etc. Siakam played with better bigs behind him in the declining but productive in limited minutes Gasol and Ibaka... but everything else favored Tatum - and that should mean better efficiency because of the pressure on the defense.

I guess the bottom line is that I give Siakam significant credit for relative "lack of help" and his role on offense in spite of that, while being the lynchpin to Toronto's defense as well - while none of Boston's guys are in that position. That said, you could argue between Tatum and Siakam. Maybe between Kemba and Siakam though Kemba has been the "unhelped guy" on other teams and they haven't been nearly as successful as Toronto was. But that's kind of the point - the Celtics have two "similar tiered" players in Tatum and Kemba, and one (now, two previously) just one level below in Brown (and Hayward)... and Siakam has 33 year old Lowry and wildly overrated FVV...

Fair points about Siakam. But I hope he decides to show up before this series is over. He was a bit better last night.

Not that I have any strong opinion on this topic, but it seems odd that you are accusing the coach that has used the most 5 man rotations, by far, in the NBA of "not adjusting". If anything, that would be a sign that he adjusts too much and doesn't have faith in his best players and line ups, but tinkers too much based on matchups.

Well, the point is that he plays too many different lineups instead of going with his best ones, which other teams do in the playoffs. He's ready to change lineups, but unable to adjust them to the playoffs and he has a history of doing that. Hope that makes more sense because I totally understand your confusion.

I think it isn't that he's not adjusting. It's that his adjustments aren't working. Though we're obviously arguing semantics here.

I really like OG on the Raps, obviously he's getting his moment now after that insane shot yesterday. But he's an elite defender with size, athleticism and can shoot. I wanted him (a lot of us here did) back in 2017 when we were sitting at #16 pre Jimmy trade. Raps would laugh us off the phone if we offered Lauri for him now. Freaking garpax man.

Honestly I dont know how players play defense these days.

Regular fould are now like Flagrant fouls.

I think the league had the right idea of trying to protect the players, but they have also gone too far with it that made the product soft.

The idea from the players now is, sell sell sell any hit and its 2 free throws and the ball.

If only it happened appropriately after the failed 2016-17 campaign. The places we might have been...not selling Jimmy G short, drafting better. We could've been/should've been the Heat right now (i.e. with high end and not bottom barrel leadership).

I read Kawhi is shooting 80% from 10'-14' mid range shots. The guy really doesn't care about analytics.

It's even worse than that. The players are actively campaigning for a review after the call. Refs go look at it and reward them with the upgrade call. It's ridiculously biased. Why play D? Just stand there.
KC: Do you still think you're a championship-caliber team?
Gar: I never said that and correct me if I'm wrong.
KC: You were asked that question at the news conference announcing Thibodeau's dismissal and you answered yes

Why did we trade Jimmy again? Such a dumb move.

Atentokoumpo is on Jimmy, forcing him to his left. It kinda threw him off, but even then Miami is still building a lead.

Honestly Giannis has a hard road recovering from this.

He may bounce back eventually like Dirk did after Golden St, but it was years alter.

But 2 years in a row, Giannis is going down in flame in a bad way.

Jimmy G is an absolute douche when he plays with guys that aren’t locked in. Coaches too.

But when Jimmy plays with guys like him he’s a hero. Chalk it up to GarPax. Jimmy was always going to go off until he found his people.
