It would required Pat, Coby, and Troy Brown Jr, which is obviously a lot so would need more consideration before I said I definitely want to do it.

That being said, I’m not certain another scorer is what this team needs and he’s also not a *great* rebounder, but he’s another big long athletic body and I’m warming up to what he could bring defensively. Would certainly be a hell of a starting five.

I am a big believer in Pat (not as a superstar but as a soon to be good to very good role player).

However, given the Bulls over-achievements, if Detroit was willing to do a Grant for Pat + DJJ + Matt Thomas (or Simonovic, or both) trade - I'd do it.

Obviously, that would be a "cheap" deal asset wise - and I don't know that I'd go any higher because I don't really value Jerami Grant that much. I think adding Coby to that deal would be counter-productive - having a bench piece like Coby can be critical in the playoffs and that would be the goal of the trade (as opposed to longer term team building).

I'm not sure that I'd be willing to add the Portand pick to the deal, either... again, I don't think that highly of Grant and do think pretty highly of Williams as a longer term piece.

I also don't think that you could afford to add Troy Brown to the deal, despite him having no likely long term future with the team - because by losing DJJ (necessary for salary purposes), you need another player with some length who is playable and can fill at the Bulls' version of the "4".

But if Detroit really loves Pat and would be willing to do what is effectively a 1:1 (although DJJ might be movable for a 2nd rounder or 2 himself)... I mean, that's clearly an upgrade for this season (assuming Grant is willing to buy into returning to a role-player role and the shooting hand thumb is healthy), and there's already familiarity with both Donovan and AK. (That familiarity also means I'd trust them if they "overpay" as compared to what I feel is appropriate -- but also would trust them if they don't make any big move to bring in Grant).

Taj is done. We can do better than that.

He really isn't done. I'm not saying he's a 30MPG allstar, but dude is playing at a level surprisingly close to when he left here, which is really amazing.

Taj is definitely not done. Still a valuable role player.

Just a random thought, but if we had prime Luol Deng as our PF we would probably be the favorites to win it all, or at least one of the favorites.

Can Grant or Barnes be that player? If so, a trade is definitely worth it.

So an informal straw poll of recent posts and and1s puts it at least 7-2 in favor of the opinion Taj can still play (which includes NY fans).

This game is a prime example of why we cannot stand Pat with this small ball bs frontcourt. BD should have played Bell this game to defend the PNR dive play. They killed us, they literally murdered us on the boards as well. Vucevic is swatting the ball versus boxing out and rebounding.

Haven't heard that name in awhile. Only 24 years but only played in 9 games this season.? Health or just not getting an opportunity?

He signed his second 10 day contract with Dallas. He’s returning from a fractured fibula.

He doesn't move the needle. He's worse than our two undersized PF options, he can't shoot, and he's not much of a defender. What would be the point?

Good points!

That said, I'm baffled a bit why McKinnie isn't getting more burn. He looked very good in limited minutes. He should be getting TBJ's minutes, at least.

I think the conundrum is/will be that Ayo has been playing so well. IMO, he's going to get the bulk of the backup SF minutes going forward (when Caruso comes back), which shifts DD to the PF when he plays his rotation minutes with the bench guys.

I will say that I like the way DJJ fits with the starters better than I like Javonte there.

Well I guess you cannot play Bell if he is no longer with the team, didn't know he was not brought back for a second 10 day contract. This sucks not having athletic bigs to defend and rebound.

This is one of the reasons why I’d be open to an Ayo for Herb Jones swap. I’m a huge Ayo fan, but especially if Coby is going to be here for a while, there’s a logjam at the guard spots, and the Bulls could use another larger but versatile defender.

I’d trade Ayo for a win now player of real consequence. Herb Jones stinks.

We certainly have a jam in the backcourt, and this was something that was addressed by the fan base this summer, management failed to address our frontcourt issues after trading Carter Jr. and Markannan. Vucevic is a decent offensive player but lacks athleticism and defensive skills. Their is no other big in the starting lineup that can mask his liabilities and other teams are exposing him all game.

My preference is to keep Ayo and it is my belief that DJJ would be involved in any trade due to his veteran presence and salary.
