I'd be apprehensive. Almost all of his play prior to this point screams Lavine isn't worth this contract but you have justenough hope that he'll turn the corner to prove the doubters wrong. But the hope is based on hope and the fear is based on previous play/analysis.

Bulls still have room for 2 MAX guys next off season and most likely they will end up landing 1 or none at all. Bulls are in a good position with good young players who have the potential to be all-stars.

Yes, all Bulls fans will be happy if Lavine becomes a star.

We can make an educated guess based off what he's done so far in his career about his star potential, and many don't see it.

I have no problem being wrong, and for the sake of this team I hope I am, but I don't think Lavine will be worth the money he's being paid.

I mean the 2nd part is just false. They dont have room for 2 MAX guys. They had close to 70M lined up without Zach (or ideally with a 1+1 contract that a lot of us wanted). Now the projected cap is around 45-50M. Still enough for one, but unless Zach becomes a star level impact player (which would take obviously massive improvements), getting one star to commit to a non-established team is pretty tough sledding.

consider this move relative to selling a 2nd round pick and trading Jimmy Butler a year prior.

I don’t follow. I still love the Butler trade like it was one of my children.

Ok, but what about every move after that? They botched the tank, and now they are botching the cap.

Brutal. This is his CARMELO rankings. Granted they are "skewed" against his injury, then again, he was injured, and he has sucked his entire career.

I'm feeling the pain and anger that guys like DanTown, TheSuzerain, Ben, SensiBull and MadVillain are expressing right now. Our team invested in a low percentage play. There was the smart financially careful route, and the heart before head, reliance on blind emotions route. They went with blind emotions. Put 20 million per year in a world class athlete who does very little except chuck up shots and ball hog. But now that it's happened, we've got to hope for the best. That 10 percent chance that Zach takes a huge leap next season is what we have to be praying for. We bleed red and black. If Zach fails to up his game much, the fact that I was right wouldn't comfort me. It would be even more wonderful to see him succeed. They wrecked the clearer path to success, but it's all spilled milk now. We deserve time to cry over this spilled milk for today. Maybe even for a couple days. But the milk will stay spilled. In due time, we're gonna have to get over it. I'm well aware that might not be easy today, but I think we'll get there. Eventually.

Young, elite athlete that is oozing with potential. Has beautiful mechanics on his jumper, repeatable stroke and the ability to create his own shot when needed. He needs work defensively and more experience in this type of offense. Dude wants to be great and has the work ethic to do it. Does that mean it will happen? No... but I'd give him more than a puncher's chance.

Be excited! I've watched this dude live multiple times and he easily has been the best athlete on the court each time I watched him.

Possibly trade Portis to a contender at the trade deadline and attach Felicio with him.

Classic GarPax move. It likely makes us a lower seeded playoff team again, and they won't have to deal with the fear of missing out on Zach becoming a star somewhere else. The bosses are making money. Casual fans are appeased. It's a win/win for them.

Unfortunately for us, I can't see how this will lead to anything beyond a second round playoff exit.

Ahem. You cannot always trade him if he underperforms his contract and if other teams know that you need the capspace to sign, oh, I dunno, two superstars who want to play together.

You can only trade him if he seems to be outperforming his contract. And if he seems to be doing that, there'll be no reason to trade him.

By your reasoning, it's always wise to match ANY young player's offer sheet because, hey, some GM will be willing to take the multi-year risk on him after you've screwed up. It's demonstrably untrue using historical data. And the flawed psychology of "sunk costs" still have not been addressed.

We probably aren't signing 2 max free agents next summer anyways. There aren't 2 guys that want to come here.

You do realize what a disappointingly inadequate response this is, right? You've been called out on the nonsense that you wrote-- nonsense with regard to historical evidence and economic rationality-- and you've focused on one point that you can contest. Maybe we aren't signing Butler and Kyrie. Are you saying that we couldn't do better, with trades and capspace, than a $20M/multiyear Lavine? And that other GMs will bail us out if we've made a mistake? Is that really, REALLY your position?

It's 5am here, I'm not going to write paragraphs on paragraphs. Ask me again tomorrow

That's because you have falsely attributed values of the Butler trade that are not really apparent in any other moves the franchise did.

It's clear as day the Bulls didn't trade Jimmy to rebuild and reset the franchise; they legitimately valued the players that Dunn, Lavine, and to a lesser extent at the time Lauri were and believed they'd be better with them than Jimmy.

Is this agreement already finalized? Can the Bulls stick it to the Kings and pull out of it somehow? lol
