He was supposed to work with Zach, who I think can teach him a lot about how to train in the offseason.

He could do both, start with Jimmy for the toughness part and add the finesse of Zach, perfect combination.

I think Zach brings the toughness also. His summer training is as rigorous as anyone.

Zach works hard but his killer mindset is based on utilizing his amazing physical skill to get and make tough shots. Pat does not have close to Zach's athletic ability. If he is going to be great, he is going to have to make defense his calling card and develop a strong two-way game. Pattern himself on Butler or Kawhi. I'm happy he's working with Zach, but he'd learn more from working with Jimmy.

Ok, and I hear you, after his rookie year, he's still probably on Basketball 102 level stuff. Learning how to train (and not get too big or injured) is probably the most important thing he can learn. After that, how to dribble in the paint without getting stripped is probably next. If that's all he accomplishes, I'd call it a huge win.

Jimmy Butler mind-melds can come later, IMO.

Yes, learning how to dribble in traffic is probably goal number 1 this off-season.

Learn what from Jimmy? How great the Miami Heat organization is?

Learn how to impose your will on a game.
Learn how and when to put a team on your shoulders.
Learn how to help a team win.
Learn what it takes to develop an offensive game from a very rudimentary place.
Learn how to play all-NBA defense.
Learn how to expect and demand accountability from yourself and from others.
Learn what playoff basketball is like.

If we are afraid of Pat taking the QO and running to the Heat because of their culture, we have much bigger issues to address.

It was a joke.

One worry I have with Patrick is whether he has the mental/emotional toughness to deal with a straight up **** like Jimmy, though. He could do Patrick like he did KAT.

Ahh, internet humor. Sarcasm is particularly challenging.

With regard to your concern, it may be valid. But better to learn that fact about Pat early on.

Jimmy Butler must be the greatest basketball mind and motivator that ever lived or ever will live.

Yeah, I don't get this obsession with Jimmy. Don't get me wrong, I love Jimmy and he has done a lot with his game, but some act like he has won all these multiple championships, or someone who is some great leader that past or present teammates clamour over. I'd be very pleased if I heard that Patrick was going to workout with Jimmy, but c'mon.

Who has been around Jimmy that you think has learned any of these things from working with him? The guy has a massive trail of bodies in his wake of people not liking him, and just give it another year and the same will be true in Miami.

You know who he should work with is a professional skills coach. I'm sure it's great to do some join workouts with players, and given Zach has an insane set up to do such things, Zach's probably a really great fit for that if you're going to do it, but someone who trains basketball skills for a living is likely going to help him add more to his game than some other player that is really great.

What's PWill's connection to Jimmy? Does he have any kind of relationship with him? Does he even know him as anything more than an opponent off the court? If not, what's Jimmy's incentive to take some other team's raw prospect under his wing? If Jimmy were to do such a thing I'm sure he'd rather it be one of his Heat teammates.

What's PWill's incentive to workout with a stranger from another team when his own all-star teammate with a notoriously high work ethic is offering to workout with him?

I get wanting him to have a Jimmy-like mindset/killer instinct, but the logistics just don't make sense and that's also something that is generally inborn and not taught. With very few exceptions, you either have that killer instinct or you don't.

I agree with you. I think the idea that young players can just “go workout with Jimmy Butler” comes from the fact that Jimmy sought out and worked with Jaylen Brown. But that was a one time thing.

I hate that PR BS. That said, at least he's got a basketball in his hands instead of a pair of weights - admiring his biceps.
