What I can't understand is the way we allow all our frustrations to get us excited about trading Luol for a lottery pick. Just because fans LOVE visiting draftexpress doesn't mean I want my team to suffer.

I would move Deng if I knew it got me Taj and Omer and Mirotic all comfortably in place, with a shot at maybe some more cap room.

But Deng may be more valuable than those guys. Omer is elite at one thing, bad at the rest. Taj is good at most things, great at none. Mirotic is a total question mark.

This is just a general point, but I really think some people here will rue being so quick to get Deng out of here. He has covered up a lot of holes for this franchise, and yet right now all we do is discuss his lack of dribbling/making his own shot. Fact is he gives you so much else in basically every other realm of the game. That's why he's worth that paycheck. You use him to cover up 120 warts on the roster.

the reason is to get the team younger, next season is a slight lost year with Rose out for most of the season. if you hit on the draft pick you get a legit #2 to pair with Rose and we finally have a 1-2 punch to truly be a championship contender for a long duration.

if you keep the current team in place you have 4-5 years left before you have to re-tool and Rose will never allow us to get back into the lottery because he's too damn good so it's possible that short of FA we'll never get a legit #2.

plus Luol is the only Bull with enough value outside of Rose who could be moved and net us a top pick. so now the question is which path do you take as the Bulls? the long-term potential shot? or the short term actual shot?

The Bulls are young, and young teams typically don't want titles, veteran teams do.

For a contender that's young to specifically try and get younger is counter intuitive.

I think what some people don't grasp -- the Bulls can have Derrick and STILL be an NBA-hell, 7th seed type team.

What if you get Devin Harris and Dorrell Wright, and then they both leave as FAs.....then Jimmy Butler doesn't pan out (very possible) and Harrison Barnes doesn't pan out (based on draft pick bust rates, very possible). Boozer declines and/or Noah continues his on again off again health issues. All those things are possible and if you add all of them up, that could mean 7th seed or worse. Worst place to be in the NBA (as in not in the lotto).

Luol is already an all-star. He's a big reason we amassed so many wins. People aren't appreciating that right now, and taking for granted that youth will still be great youth and top of the conference level talent. It's not promised to us. What we have right now is top of the conference talent....and it's not old, either.

People won't wait til January for Luol to be healed from surgery, but they ARE willing to wait how long for Harrison Barnes? 2-3 years? How long is the wait for Tyrus going on now? Just because something shiny and new does not make it of worth.

You know if Booz and Noah are as bad as you suggest Deng wont save us...I'm just saying he is not that type of player. He is a compliment not a star who can carry the team. It basically all comes down to what Derrick can do for Lu in terms of offense.

With the East where it is, if Derrick were totally healthy and Noah went down....I believe in our frontcourt depth to keep us near the top of the conference.

I do not believe in our sub-Deng SF depth to do that.

It's impossible to say right now if I do the deal because I don't know what's available, and I don't know ALL our options regarding Boozer's money. But what I do know is what we did the last few years, and I know I liked it. And I know Deng was a big part of it, despite the revisionist history we see here these days.

BINGO

Do you really want to sell that out for a lottery pick that isn't even top 5?!? Really? Really?

This comes down to argument between potentially giving yourself a better chance to win it all and realistically losing in the ECSF/ECF for years to come.

James, Wade and Bosh really screwed things up for the Bulls and people tend to look past some great work from the Bulls FO since the Derrick Rose draft because everyone is obsessed about beating Miami.

It essentially comes to whether you believe this team is good enough as is/you don't really care about winning it all along as they are pretty close/you think we need and can get better in terms of beating Miami by trading Luol Deng this summer.

People just want the team to make a move for the sake of making a move. There are ways to get under the tax without giving up Deng. Even if they have to go over the tax for 1 yr it won't be the end of the world. This Bulls team are closer than people think.

Boozer is 30,Rip is 34, the rest of the team is around 27(Noah,Deng,Gibson,Brewer) or older.
that gives you a 4-5 year window meaning most will be 28-29 when Rose is fully back.
so by the time the run ends everyone is around 32-33 while Rose would be 28-29.

if you deal Deng for a lotto pick then you get a player who will be 19-20 to pair with a 24-25 year old Rose which extends the potential run if you hit on the pick.

i'm not saying we should move Deng but posters who keep questioning why deal him need to realize that it does make sense from a certain standpoint depending on which way you want to go.

dealing him saves money(and we all know JR loves doing this),gets a young player never to Rose and potentially gives them a 2nd star.

not dealing him means the team stays intact and you look to the future to add younger pieces while right now you continue to add guys like Rip who still have 2-3 years left and can stabilize the team while we're contenders.

People don't want them to make a move for the hell of it, people want them to make a move so that they stand on equal footing with Miami and OKC and have a chance to win multiple championships.

Right now, I think we CAN beat Miami but it's going to take some luck (us healthy, them not so healthy). And I think we'll always be the underdogs figthing an uphill battle, and losing most of the time.

Where if we were to add a legit 2nd scorer and not put the entire load on Roses shoulders, it would make us much more favorable ton not only beat them but beat them regularly, and also prolong Rose's career.

You can win A ship with role players, but you need stars for dynasties. I'd much rather be the San Antonio Spurs, than the Detroit Pistons. Hell even 1 ship isn't guaranteed, we could be 90's Knicks, always losing to the Jordan Bulls, never getting a ring.

Oh well, Ray could hardly shoot better than Battier did in the Finals, while playing worse defense.

He wouldn't shoot better than Battier did. I haven't looked at the numbers, but I'm certain Battier shot better than 50% from 3 in the finals. He was absolutely unconscious.
