If we were to acquire Aldridge in some sort of package involving Deng, Thomas Robinson (by trading our #20, the TPE and possibly filler) and a future first rounder or something along those lines then I would not be surprised in the least if we finally bought into the Boozer for Humphries and Brooks scenario. The potential savings from those deals may allow us to keep Nate and Marco (if the Bulls are willing to pay them tax on them). And our roster would look something like this:

Rose/Hinrich/Teague
Belinelli/Robinson
Butler/Brooks
Aldridge/Gibson/Humphries/Thomas
Noah/Mohammed

Personally, I'd rather stick with our current core. Rose/Butler/Deng/Boozer/Noah is a terrific starting 5 on paper. I'm also not a huge believe in Aldridge being an upgrade over Boozer given his relatively poor rebounding skill level for a big man and his average to below average defense. Although Aldridge was better last season, Boozer has been historically a better shooter than Aldridge. The only intriguing thing to me in regards to Aldridge is that he's more likely to get hot from the perimeter than Boozer. Having a potentially bigger perimeter threat may spread the floor more for Rose to operate.

My other thought is that while I don't like the above lineup as good as our current one, it is definitely very cap friendly for 2014. I would not not be surprised if the Bulls tried one last time to acquire one of Wade or LeBron with that roster. Adding either one would put the Bulls over the top IMO and should win us the title (even with Wade's injury history).

Can these Deng for the #1 pick scenarios please end.

I'm not sure Deng gets the #1 either although Cleveland does want a SF. If they had stayed at #3, they would have been very happy with Otto Porter.

Followed up with Hamilton and Hinrich for Marion and #13 which I then send off with Marquis Teague to New Orleans for Eric Gordon

Take James Southerland in the 2nd round

Resign Nate for the taxpayers exception

Bring back Nazr at the minimum

Bring in a Mike James type at vet minimum

2014 Draft Pick
2015 Draft Pick
Bobcats lottery pick

A true and legitimate contender now and a true and legitimate contender well into the future

New Jersey wouldn't include a pick in the Humphries for Boozer deal.

So Boozer for an extra year over Hump is not worth a #22 pick in this draft for a 2nd round team that is trying to go to the Conference Finals. Rrrrrrriggggggghhhht

Celtics can get a much better deal for Garnett and Pierce than Expiring contracts, a possible bust, and a lower-round pick.

Pierce will likely be let go if they cant trade him and Garnett is now an 18 year vet. How are they not worth the #5 pick in last year's draft who hasn't yet had an opportunity to prove himself and a #22 in this draft , and expiring contracts , that make them a player at the draft deadline to get better if a deal is available that they like.

You do realise the Celtics are in full rebuilding mode? Young talent, draft picks and expiring contracts are generally how it works. Plus there are probably only 2 or 3 teams ( if that ) that KG would agree to play for . Given the Thibs connection and the fact he would be contending with PP I would suggest Chicago might be one of them.

If Dallas is trading Marion, they want to shed salary, not gain it in the form of Hinrich.

Uh...its the net differentials Einstein. They save $5M in cap room , admittedly only about the same if they dump Carter and the pick with no player coming back.

No way does New Orleans trade Gordon for a late lottery pick and Marquis Teague.

Oh I see

So NO doesn't take back a starting vet at SF ( which gives them the ability to clear the cap deck after this season )and a #13 pick + a defensive back up point for the oft injured / doesn't want to be here ...Eric Gordon. Hell I'd also give them a 2015 or 2016 1st round pick ( on the basis we'll have the Bobs pick in either of those years )

No team is going to take Gordon back and give up young proven talent or a better quality vet. About the only deal you could do for Gordon would be Danny Granger in a sign and trade or trade him for a Joe Johnson type straight up.

Question: If Mirotic was in this draft and was guaranteed to come to the NBA this year, where in the draft would he be projected?

The Bulls could very well sit pat and keep the no.20 pick and draft someone really good, and I have confidence that person would likely be a good player. And even then, the NBA draft is still always fun to watch even if we're not involved in the trades, and the added evolution of the draft with twitter is that we usually know the trades well before it's ever announced even on TV which is always fun.

Which gives me an idea, perhaps there should be two draft threads for the draft, 1. spoiler free thread, and 2. the spoilers thread, because I know that there are plenty of people who don't like to know the trades until they are televised which is fair enough to those people.

I agree, the draft is fun. But now I keep thinking the Bulls have a shot at getting Aldridge and won't be able to get anything done at work.

I just saw mike mcgraws twitter say Bulls get Asik, LMA - Portland gets Noah, TRob, 2015 first round pick, Rip Hamilton and Houston gets Bulls TPE, 20th pick, and cap space for DH.

Hard to see where this thread isn't just 30+ pages of jibber jabber without us having Asik, which would allow us to facilitate a move. They want Noah and likely not much else we can give.

At the time, many of us argued we would have 3 years to consolidate talent before we even had to pay the piper on Asik's big final year. The opposite side was all worried about 'flexibility', well we are now heading 2 years into what Asik's deal would be and we've done nothing with supposed flexibility which we really don't have any of anyway. And the team has been weaker in its contention on top, and looks to continue to be.

Quality centers are *always* in demand in the NBA and usually doesn't take waiting too long before you can get something valuable for one.

I agree 100%. And if the Bulls had kept Asik, they'd be able to dangle Noah

Noah is a superior player over Asik.

The Bulls FO made the correct move by choosing Noah & Taj over Asik, IMO.

So you think Boozer and Noah is better than Aldridge and Asik?

Pretty sure this is the Twitter account for Boogey's Twitter.

This post intrigues me, as to whether it's a proposal just involving the two teams, or the Bulls put out a proposal involving another team. Either way, I'm not putting my hopes up that we're going to overhaul our team simply for Aldridge - he is a good player, and he fits with our team, but he isn't the star player to put along side Derrick we've been looking for either.

Bingo. It's a lateral move that will cost a lot of assets. I don't think I would trade Noah straight up for Aldridge, and I think Portland would want Noah + stuff. My guess.

As others have mentioned, this is a weak draft.

If there was a bonafide franchise player in this draft, Cleveland would be the one hanging up the phone on Portland. Not the other way around.

Let's not simply offense to just scoring, unless you want to simply defense to just defending too. But when I look at their "weaknesses":

Noah's offense vs. Aldridge's defense, I would think Aldridge's defense is ahead by a considerable gap. Their strengths might be closer to a wash, but I feel Aldridge's offense is good enough to carry teams on a good amount of nights.

Without reading all 60 pages, I don't see how Aldridge's desire to play for the Bulls is particularly relevant. It makes complete sense that he'd want to play in Chicago and that the Bulls would want him, but all that really matters is if the two teams are good trade partners, and I don't know that we've seen a ton of evidence that that's the case.

Pretty sure I've seen a couple of sources who said he would absolutely be a top 5 player with a chance to go #1. This was from someone who had talked to multiple team FO people.

Top 3-5 pick.

I will say in a normal draft I think he'd be just a lottery pick.

I disagree. If this were Carlos Boozer we're talking about, I'd agree. But Aldridge to me is a better overall player.

he's better at scoring. nothing else. Noah is a better rebounder, defender, shot blocker and passer.
don't know why people always want to say a person who scores more is a better overall player.

definitely curious to see how this plays out though. if we get LMA we have to deal Boozer somewhere.

I love Noah, but I'd reluctantly do that deal if we are keeping Mirotic and the CHA pick.
