Funny, I have been by that Johnnie's I don't know how many times and never once have thought in stepping into there and having lunch. It is absolutely not the same thing.

The Elmwood Johnnies is a classic… the Arlington one looks like a fake plastic tree.

I went vegetarian 6-7 years ago and truly the only thing I missed was a good Italian beef. A little over a month ago Buona partnered with my friend's company Upton's Naturals to make a plant based Italian beef and when I was talking to the founder of Upton's about it, he said Buona was working on a deal with Justin since he's vegan.

I've probably had 20 of those damn beefs since they've launched! Making up for lost time.

What are they using for the beef. Seitan? FWIW I think Italian beef is definitely on topic in a bears discussion thread. Oddly I’m not a huge fan of it I like it but was never my go to, but my sister is in town this weekend from AZ to bury my father and she has to get a beef and a Cubs game without a question. I’d rather get Poke lol.

seitan, yes

i'd love to try it (w/ BBQ sauce). but i'm allergic to gluten, so i can't eat the bread. big fan of impossible burgers (which taste exactly like beef) and beyond burgers, which i've recently tried for the first time and have been frying up on a skillet at home. use toasted trader joe's gluten-free bagels for buns

Impossible is soooo good. Upton's also made the Updog which is a vegan hotdog with the snap of a regular hotdog.

You can get gluten free bread at Buona.

Impossible is soooo good.

some vegetarians are disgusted by it because it tastes so much like meat. for me...

not. a. problem.

given where most hot dogs come from, i've got a mental block

My older daughter is a vegetarian and can't stand the taste of meat and is quite disturbed by all veggie burgers now tasting like meat instead of veggie patties.

Totally get why this works for people who love meat but want to start eating veggie for one reason or another.

I was vegetarian and then vegan in the early 90’s more for ideals than health at the time. I was in a sXe vegan crowd at the time. In the late 90’s I went raw vegan for health reasons AP but my god at that time it was sooooooo much work, there just weren’t the products available for it to be realistically sustainable for me at the time. Today I am an omnivore though with no particular restriction but not a huge meat fan (but still big on dairy although I have always hated milk, but do like cheese). Blah blah blah. My wife is more or less vegan now primarily for health reasons, dairy does not agree with her and morally is not a fan of meat. Me personally though I do not like the impossible burgers much or any of the replicant beef or chicken products. She loves them. It’s strange for me but maybe it’s because my plant based pallet was developed at a different time. That being said I’ll still eat it but I don’t love it. I prefer the traditional “ garden burger” to the newer offerings out there. Not sure why really. Oddly I also love oat milk although I never ever liked milk. I pretty much make no logical sense.

You probably crossed paths with the Upton's folks back then!

I’m really hoping we see Fields early this season. Will be boring and borderline torture if we don’t.

i've been borderline irrationally high on fields since shortly after the draft for a lot of reasons outlined in that video. can't remember the last time i've been this optimistic on a prospect.

it's just hard to imagine how a guy with very good accuracy, including elite deep ball accuracy, and elite mobility doesn't at least translate into a solid starting quarterback. either the numbers would have to be lying somehow, or he'd have to be completely incapable of reading an nfl defense, and there's no reason i can tell to believe that would be the case. (and tbh, given the way offenses have been built in the nfl over the last ~5 years, great arm talent and mobility can cover up a lot of defense-reading deficiencies if you've got a good enough scheme.)

I’m expecting the torture. I believe Pace is going to try to hold him back as long as possible in order to protect his job as long as possible. His clock runs faster the second Fields starts. It very well may be what saves his job but if say Fields on,y starts half the season he extends his window by a year etc…. It’s sad but true.

So again, why did he drop? I can’t believe some researcher knew more than NFL scouting departments. The latter of whom knows more about his work ethic than YouTube pundits. And racism charge is equally unlikely. All we got on him is epilepsy and small hands. By the way, the last time a QB said he was the best quarterback in the draft it was the Houston quarterback. Good company.
