Here's what Ragnow said about Fraley.

"No, you refuse to let Hank leave,” Ragnow said. “I haven’t played in this league without Hank and I don’t plan on doing it. I’ll sabotage him, I’ll leak stories, whatever it takes.”

When asked a follow-up question about what Fraley, who arrived as the Lions assistant offensive line coach the same year Ragnow was drafted (2018), means to him, Ragnow dove deeper.

“I don’t think I could play in this league without the guy. He’s everything to me. He’s been there since Day 1,” Ragnow said. “In this league, there are a lot of coaches, but there’s not many coaches like him that empower his players and really it is an open dialogue. He really does everything he can to put us in the best positions to be confident and go out there and play well.

Would the Lions promote him to OC to keep him? Because Ben Johnson could offer him the OC job to entice him to come with.

That's the current question. It's possible the Lions would want an experienced play caller instead, but in Chicago I would assume BJ would be calling the plays.

"Again, I’ve said it before, but him being a former center in this league has been invaluable to me', Ragnow said. "Talking about how we see things, and not only him giving me advice, but me telling him how I see it and him being willing to listen. I think that’s so rare, and I'm just so grateful for him.”

It would have to be as OC but then you lose out as him being a full time OL coach and Lions can still block him if hes not calling plays.

I guess you can put to bed all the stories about how the Bears were too cheap to hire a top candidate, or how their hiring process was so convoluted they'd lose out on all the top guys, or their front office was so messed up no one would want to come here, or Kevin Warren would tie Poles' hands and force him to pick a bland, company controlled type coach. All a lot of "sky is falling" for nothing.

Caleb has to be pumped. As must the entire offense. I wonder how much BJ will want to retain Keenan Allen?

It makes me feel better about Caleb Williams that one of the brightest offensive minds in the league is willing to hitch his wagon to him. That had to be our #1 selling point and this came together more quickly than I expected. I doubt we just overwhelmed him with our monetary offer.

It was still all for nothing. There was a lot of fodder for sure. The one that was most eye roll worthy to me was the idea that they were interviewing too many coaches. After bashing them for missing out on vikes coach.

I realize the optics of that is definitely apart of the incompetent worry, but man. All the hand ringing was really useless.

Agreed with that. Bears are probably the only non cheap ownership group. All others are horrific and cry poor. Even Ricketts

Yea Caleb was definitely the tie-breaker. He was gonna get the bag no matter where he went.

No there were also people who thought the Bears would never spend what it took to get a guy like Ben Johnson.

Another plus to Dennis Allen- he runs a 4-3.

Tom Brady called the DET/WAS game- maybe he was so unimpressed with Johnson from that game that he pulled their offer. Just kidding.

Jcool0 wrote:Norv and Josh got to pick there QBs. Heath Shuler was the #3 player taken in 1994. Josh traded Jay Culter and took Tim Tebow in round 1. Haley had Matt Cassel in KC who did have a 27 TDs 7 INT season under him.

None of those QBs could consistently pass for 3000 yards or were hyped for their arm talent.

BJ is getting his hands on a rookie phenom that just put up 3600 yards with a dumpster fire offense.

Not a fan of Dennis Allen. With that stated, hope he supports replacing some pieces on defense like Trumaine Edmunds

I think it is kind of the opposite.
The mass amount of media and fan attention (or "hand wringing") put their continued incompetence out in public and openly questioned.

Poles and Warren deserve props for getting Johnson, but we are literally here right now because of the prior F-ups (see Flus, Getsy and Waldron vs Quinn and KK).

Why aren’t you an Allen fan?

Maybe Edmunds plays better under Allen. Different scheme different responsibilities and hopefully a more aggressive approach systematically
