OT: Report: Cavaliers make offer to Tom Izzo

The Cavaliers have reportedly made an offer to Michigan State's Tom Izzo to take over coaching duties in Cleveland.
Owner Dan Gilbert graduated from Michigan State and reportedly wants to hire Izzo badly. He's a very demanding coach and it will be interesting to see if, A. He takes the job, and B. How his style translates in the NBA. This is just a hunch, but it would make sense that LeBron James has already signed off on Izzo coaching the team. Then again, that doesn't mean it would keep him from going elsewhere, either. Jun. 6 - 8:45 pm et

Going from college to pros is not necessarily a step up as far as basketball coaches are concerned, I don't think it's a 100% that he takes a NBA job, similar to Dean Smith and Coach K.

Well I don't think Tom Izzo leaves MSU unless he is confident that LeBron is staying. So if he signs it could be a sign that LeBron is going to resign.

theres no way he goes unless he knows lebron is staying 100 percent. if he takes it lebron prob has told ownership he'll stay. if izzo turns it down its good news for us

there's no way in hell izzo coaches cleveland lol..I think he wants young, elite, and winning talent. He's not gonna leave a great situation at michigan state to gamble with the cavs.

I only see Izzo leaving for a team that can win right away, like L.A. if Phil Jackson retires or something like that.

edit: if lebron wasn't a free agent, I think izzo would definitely seriously consider the cavs. but there's just as good of a chance lebron leaves.

Izzo has turned down chance to talk with a few NBA teams in last two years. Cavs owner Dan Gilbert has targeted him as top choice.

Despite published report, two sources close to MIchigan State's Tom Izzo say the Cavs still haven't made him an offer. "Not yet," one said.

In talking to Izzo people, sense is Cavs franchise is too unsettled for him to leave Mich State now. NBA intrigues him, but he's cautious.

That is like saying MJ is coming back from retirement due to the hiring of Pink Floyd or Rick Pitino.

Well, Tom Izzo is no slouch of a coach. I dunno if he'd be a good NBA coach, but he's be awesome as a college coach.

Exactly. Izzo is in the same category of current college coaching greats like Mike Krzyzewski.

UPDATE: Fox 43 is reporting that Izzo has accepted Cavaliers coaching job.

Keep this in mind before reacting: 43 is a rumor buzz-a-ramma They once reported that Shaq was being signed by the Pistons (2008). So until it is independently confirmed, I wouldn't take their word for it.

I think it's a big leap to say if Izzo accepts that means Bron is staying in Clev.

This is Gilbert's Michigan State connection at work...and it's Gilbert putting himself in control foremost. What we should be fearing is Bron being allowed to put in Calipari or someone he's connected with.

Instead this is someone Gilbert's connected with. As they said, this is DG's top choice.
