#Nuggets JR Smith was involved in a physical altercation at August 13th practice with the team. Police called. So that's apparently the straw that broke the camel's back... The player who JR tried to choke, was reportedly playing physical defense after the coaching staff asked him to. In other Nuggets news, Masai Ujiri will be named the new GM...

This may be why JR is suddenly "available"

I'm going to wait for further, more detailed news about this before calling him a headcase thug, but the rest of you have fun.

Will have to see if the damage he left behind can match Spree's on Carlesimo.

I believe in giving the people the benefit of the doubt, for the most part. But even you would have to admit that there does seem to be a pattern establishing here.

How disappointing for JR. I mean after you've killed a person, it must be devastating to fail the next time you try.

100% the chokee wasn't Kenyon Martin or Nene. JR Smith isn't that stupid. Mmm, tough defense? This sounds like a job for Arron Afflalo.

The NY Forum is reporting that the player is not an NBA vet:

According to White, the player -- who sources said lives in the Denver area and played previously with the now defunct Colorado 14ers of the NBA D-League -- is "not a member of the National Basketball Association."

OH MY. This makes it 1000000x worse.

Kid listening to the staff telling him to play D and this is what happens, wow.

I updated my original post with the quote from NYK Forum - but the lad's name is not being revealed

I hope this will be investigated to the fullest extent by Stern. I wish every sport had a rule that stated you mess up three times and you get handed a ban. You fail a drug test, you put your hands on a fan, your put your hands on a player, you give the finger etc. you get my point.

The way I read it is that JR "tried to choke" the player. It seems to imply that teammates got involved & separated them before any real damage was done. However, JR would have clearly made some contact with intent to harm

Hard to believe a sizable contingent on this board was balls to the wall pissed the Bulls "gave him away" for a 2nd round pick.

Dude is a head case, and he isn't even that good!

According to a league source who spoke with one of the people in the gym, numerous players were taking part in drills when members of the Nuggets' coaching staff told the player who later called police to be physical with Smith.

"They were just wanting the guy to be physical with J.R., telling the other guys, 'Hey, body up on the guys and really make them work,'" the source said. "J.R. just lost it. He tried to choke the kid, and the kid called the cops."

Okay Im far too tired to research it, but for anyone that has the time, we can figure this out. He is a rookie in the NBA, and was a Colorado 14er. Can't be too many of them on the Denver training camp roster. Who's gonna take the time and figure out who it was?
