So I met Pax tonight..

I was at the Hawks "Meet the Cup' event at the UC tonight. Dont know if anyone else was there. Great presence from the Bulls (including Pax, Thibs, Noah, Gibson, and Brewer).

Spoke with each of them - class acts. My favorite line was from Noah on the Heat: "Man, I can't wait to beat their a**" -- I told him I was proud to have him on my team

Anyway, I asked Pax about why they didn't sign Morrow, since I (and many other around here) are such big fans of his. To paraphrase, he said they felt Reddick was tougher and more "hard-nosed". They thought Korver was a better flat out shooter and was better coming off screens, which fit this offense more. He implied Morrow, while a great player, had an unbalanced game that didn't fit as well. I thought it was a decent and thoughtful response. Just thought others on here might like to hear that. I didn't think that question was asked enough this off-season.

One last thing, I asked Taj if he thought Brewer could effectively fill Hinrich's role. He looked at me like I was crazy. While he said Hinrich was their leader, he said wait until you see Brewer's wingspan and "bro, the guy guarded Kobe for 4 years" (though, i don't think it was quite 4).

Just thought you all would appreciate those comments. That, and Thibs is incredibly nice and comes off extremely well. The 3 people I was with kept asking who that really nice guy was throughout the night.

Sounds cool. I can't wait until the bulls beat the heat too :D

When you said that Taj looked at you crazy after you asked him about Kirk, I thought you were implying that Taj thought that Brewer couldn't fill Kirk's shoes....that is, until I read the rest of it, lol.

Can't wait for the season to start

Very much appreciated indeed.

I'm more than satisfied with Paxson's response regarding Morrow. I mean, what's done is done. Our priorities it seems was JJ, followed by Brewer as the back up plan. Paxson and Gar decided JJ was the better fit, both offensively and defensively and I'd agree.

Morrow also basically pounced on the so-so offer from the Nets, which leads me to think he wasn't getting an absurd amount of offers from anyone else, though I'm thinking that we would have contemplated going for Morrow AFTER we locked down Brewer first.

Thanks for sharing....

Did you hear any Rudy/shooter chatter?

Very appreciated. Came away after reading those responses very satisfied. Taj thinks Brewer will be good this year (or at least much better than Kirk) and Pax gave a respectable and understandable answer on Morrow.

Thanks for the input man.

Thanks for sharing this. I guess Morrow was never really on the Bulls' radar.

Pretty cool if it's true, but you should've asked about the Rudy situation. He probably wouldn't have said much but it would have been interesting to hear.

Morrow was on the Bulls radar, but it sounds like they passed on him later. So in order, the Bulls priority was

1). Korver
2). Redick
3). Bell
4). Brewer

I don't think Korver was #1 priority, he was just #1 as far as specialty players. We never signed Korver to start. Korver and those other three were in different categories.

They viewed Korver better than Morrow which from the post suggests Morrow wasn't viewed as a starter either

Well Lebron was obviously priority #1.

With that said, they made Korver priority 1 after the main free agents were signed when they locked him down first, then made an offer to Redick.

That's a BS story.

No one who has ever watched a game of basketball would pass on Anthony Morrow. Since I know Paxson watched a game of basketball before, you therefore did not speak with Paxson.

The Bulls had so many spots they needed to fill to even say one was a bigger priority over the other. After Boozer we needed a off the bench shooter and a starting SG, just because we signed the off the bench shooter before we made a RFA a offer doesn't mean anything.

Redick, Bell and Brewer were all being looked at as starters, Korver wasn't. I'd say we can say Brewer was behind Redick and Bell because they were all being looked at for the same position. I just wouldn't read into Korver getting signed first

Thanks for this. Who knew the event where Bulls personnel would be the most accessible would be a Blackhawks event.

Everything I read about this off-season still has me thinking that, at worst, Thibo was our second best off-season acquisition after Boozer; by all accounts this guy has a tremendous pedigree and disposition.

Yeah, i should have asked about Rudy.

I was more concerned about asking about Carmelo, but figured there was no way I would get anything beyond a BS answer.

Ronnie seemed pretty stoked about being a part of this team though. I got the impression that hee definitely views himself as a major piece, though. It kind of made me forget about Rudy, to be honest.

My biggest take away was Thibs tho. I walked away not able to understand the rumors of him being impersonal. It was one of those things where I mentioned having lived in Boston before and he engaged me in conversation about the city and my time there. Incredibly friendly and normal, great first impression.

As if I couldn't be more stoked for this season....
