Some of the greatest posts i've read on realgm. Wonderful job Green apple

Green Apple wrote:
World Peace wrote:Brown has gotten a lot of heat for the Lakers second consecutive early exit from the playoffs, but if you look at the roster top to bottom you can't say that's a championship caliber roster. They finished right around where they should of. Not saying he's a great or even good coach, but he gets way too much heat for the Lakers shortcomings. The team simply lacks talent in certain areas. One of the worst PG rotations in basketball, worst bench in the league, and little to no shooting. Can't really judge if Brown is a championship caliber head coach until you give him a championship caliber roster.

Leaders exist in every walk of life. Whether it's in school, business, or sports, they will always exist, for leaders are essential for our growth, for the growth of society, that is a must. Their job is to lead their men and bring out their best qualities, the attributes inside which define them as people, and help these people display these qualities to the world so they can help further the advancement of society as a whole. They must help these people grow, by molding them as people and as individuals. In basketball the head coach is not a leader, but, the leader. This is the gentleman who must lead his men and help them grow, so they can best display their talents. Mr. Brown, here, is a leader, but we must decide how great of a leader.

Green Apple wrote: San Antonio Spurs are team for the ages, that as much is known. They play with exceptional team spirit and determination, always making that extra pass, while never taking a play off. They are truly a team to be reckoned with, a force for the ages, sure we've seen great teams over the years, but this is truly something special, this is team transforming a game into art. Watching the Spurs in today's NBA must be what it was like to watch PIcasso paint one of his masterpieces or Mozart creating his requiem, true, real art that only grows greater with time. They may be a team of destiny, or perhaps, a team for all ages.

Green Apple wrote: underestimate the competitive spirit of these remarkable athletes displaying their gifts on the greatest stage. The Spurs are truly the greatest competition, an army, a basketball machine running on all cylinders. They are a force, sure, but forces must be tested. James will be that test perhaps and we will see what happens when a perfect basketball army meets a force of nature, the immovable object meets the irresistible force, we are truly blessed to witness what might unfold

Green Apple wrote: our critics is surely what we all hope and dream of. James, a master of his craft, has exploded into the NBA universe and his star has burned brighter and brighter, only dulled by the likes of the graceful Dirk Nowitzki or the stoic general Tim Duncan. There are few things in sports which need to be seen to be believed, Mr. James is surely one of them. This is a man of enormous gifts, a basketball wizard putting his spell on the league. A basketball wizard meets an army of cohesion, what unfolds from here, well... something very, very special.

Green Apple wrote: are three, four things which makes a artist truly special, physical and basketball skill, competitive excellence, the ability and need to get better, and the people put in place to harness and focus the abilities of this special talent. When all these needs are required and met we are truly blessed, the sports world has been made greater by this striking talent. Unbridled creativity met with fierce competitiveness... what a show.

Green Apple wrote: can call him a homer, sure, but is that really an insult. What we're doing when we're supporting our teams is putting every ounce of passion and energy into these games, cheering these artists. We get so enamored with our heros, these elegant performers and more importantly, so firmly attached to our teams. We become a part of the core, part of the system. With all our energy and passion, we give the performers inspiration to drive themselves even further and test their inner will. The team we support is a cohesive unit, we almost become a part of the unit when we so fervently exert our emotions.

Green Apple wrote: this point it certainly does appear that the odds are stacked against them. A cohesive basketball army has reigned down upon the NBA and they are reeking havoc upon the league, in a truly inspiring effort. The sum is greater than the parts, they have become one. Twelve individuals, performers and artists have come together to create basketball art. They show their true passion for the sport with their gorgeous passing and their remarkable teamwork serves as the finest example to the future generation that looks up to the heros of the present for a guiding light. The spurs, once thought to be a dominant team of the past, has returned from the basketball abyss and once again risen to the pinnacle of their profession. They are impressive, to be sure, but even the greatest of the greats will be tested and I don't doubt that they will ultimately face their biggest test. What we will see in the upcoming weeks are the best at what they do and I expect it to be pure brilliance... basketball bliss.

Green Apple wrote: is the truly the greatest time of year and this is what makes this time so exceptional and so pleasing to the masses. These players have given all their talents and woven them within the team to create a perfect basketball unit. The beauty of this time is what will ultimately follow, we will get to see a true champion crowned. There's nothing more glorious than seeing artists rewarded for their exceptional gifts and their sacrifice for team. This is the time... nothing compares to this.

Green Apple wrote: lies one of the great physical traits of perhaps the league's most wondrous athletic marvel. Here's a guy whose speed is remarkable, but soon becomes an afterthought. We're witnessing a fusion of small foward and line backer that we haven't quite seen yet, a beautiful athletic creation sent from the basketball universe and brought down to the grateful fans, who having watched him for nine seasons have still not fully understood what they are watching. A magnificent blend of power and agility, speed and reckless abandon. We've seen so much, yet we expect so much more. It would be a tragic outcome if this exquisite marvel sprung from the earth did not achieve his ultimate basketball success. A talent far too special to go wasted in any sense of the word.

The prospect of getting older is a difficult one, for we all would like to retain our youth for all time. The process of aging can be painful, once vibrant individuals are left listless, unable to recapture that energy that was once so effortless. Basketball players are artists, large men gliding through the air performing ballet theatrics, setting the sporting world aflame with their exceptional efficiency and dazzling grace. Nothing can be more agonizing, than when this energy is snatched from the artist, and the artist can no longer perform his magic. His wizardry is no longer.

How old is his account?

The Green Apple Music & Arts Festival is intended to keep Earth Day itself from becoming extinct.

For former Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart, his next gig is just a trip back in time.

This Sunday, Hart co-stars with a legion of top talent in the multi-city Green Apple Festival.

It's a decent connection to a Deadhead.

While I agree that I could almost see Walton spitting out those lines, they don't quite get me laughing like he did when he was doing commentary, but maybe that is because it's the written word and he spends longer sculpting his words in a slightly more subtle way. What team's board does Green Apple claim as his home here?

Anyways this seems like as good a time as any, and any time would be a good time, to flood this with some Bill Walton gold...

- “Shaq’s arrogance is an insult to people who think.”
- “Why is Scottie Pippen taking a charge? Taking a charge is for people with no game!”
- “At 49, I can say something I never would have said when I was a player, that I’m a better person because of my failures and disgraces.”
- “Growing up, my parents were very, very strict. And then I went to UCLA with John Wooden, who was just off the charts.”
- “Tracy McGrady is doing things we’ve never seen from anybody – from any planet!”
- “Mick Jagger is in better shape than far too many NBA players. It’s up in the air whether the same can be said of Keith Richards.”
- “John Stockton is one of the true marvels, not just of basketball, or in America, but in the history of Western Civilization!”
- “Show some respect to this living legend, this hall of famer…Arvydas Sabonis.”
- “The only way Danny Schayes is getting into the hall of fame is if he pays the $5.99 admission fee.”
- “When I think of Boris Diaw, I think of Beethoven in the age of the romantics.”
- “If Eric Piatkowski continues playing at this level, he’s going to replace Jerry West on the NBA logo.”
- “That was one of the worst passes I’ve ever seen, and certainly the worst pass in the history of the San Antonio Spurs.”
- “Cuttino Mobley has just made the two worst shot attempts in the history of this proud Houston Rockets franchise.”
- “I told Luke, you’re young, you’re rich, and you’re living in Beverly Hills. If you’re not having the time of your life right now, I have failed you as a father.”
- “Amare Stoudamire! Winner of the genetic lottery!”
- “Come on, that was no foul! It may be a violation of all the basic rules of human decency, but it’s not a foul.”
- “Yesterday we celebrated Sir Isaac Newton’s discovery of gravity, today, Fabricio Oberto is defying it.”
- “I’m mainstream. Always have been.”
- On Rasheed Wallace: “He’s like a four-armed Dikembe Mutombo around the basket!”
- “But you have to understand, my beard is so nasty. I mean, it’s the only beard in the history of Western civilization that makes Bob Dylan’s beard look good.”
- Exchange between Bill and Snapper Jones: “That’s a terrible defensive effort by Robert Horry. He didn’t even make it difficult for Rasheed Wallace to score.” Snapper: “Well, what do you expect? Earlier you said that Wallace could be one of the best players in the game, and now you want Robert Horry to guard him one-on-one?” Bill: “No, I said that Rasheed could be the best player in the game.”
- Exchange between Bill and Tom Hammond: “John Stockton is one of the true marvels, not just of basketball, or in America, but in the history of Western Civilization!” Tom: “Wow, that’s a pretty strong statement. I guess I don’t have a good handle on world history.” Bill: “Well Tom, that’s because you didn’t go to UCLA.”
- “Patrick Ewing used to be much better in every aspect of the game.”
- “Tonight the Spurs look to extend their lead to 3-0 over the Lakers. This time, however, they will have to do it on the Lakers’ home court. Duncan and Shaq have been magnificent for both teams, but so far the edge has gone to San Antonio. However, the real story line that awaits us tonight in Los Angeles is whether or not Kobe Bryant will actually throw a pass!”
- “Oh my, Kobe is really putting on a show out there. He’s making Ray Allen look like a sixth grader!”
- “Save some for later? Balderdash…this is the playoffs!”
- On Larry Johnson’s lackluster performance in the NBA Finals: “What a pathetic performance by this sad human being. This is a disgrace to the game of basketball and to the NBA. He played like a disgrace tonight. And he deserved it.”
- More Larry Johnson railing: “Why would the Pacers ever double-team Larry Johnson? He wants to be double-teamed so he can pass. Why is Indiana double-teaming a man who only scores 8 points a game?”
- “Memo to Paul Pierce and Antoine Walker: Couldn’t you wait until at least the All-Star break to have the franchise suffer its worse loss in its storied history? Bill Russell just called looking for an address to send his 11 championship rings back to the Celtics because he is so disappointed.”
- “This Portland team is nothing more than a band of pranksters.”
- On Kevin Garnett: “He’s been working out in the off-season, on that incredible computer generated body he has.”
- On Rasheed Wallace: “The only thing he is worth is another team’s mistake. This guy has ruined every situation he has been in. This is a classic underachiever.”
- After Brent Musberger teased him about his criticism of Rasheed Wallace.”Not a critic, just a reporter of facts.”
- “Hey i’m for anything that keeps Charlie Ward out the game”
- “Oylden Polynice, make a layup pleeeeeeeaaaaaasssseee!”
- “The only man who can stop Cliff Robinson is Cliff Robinson. The man is unstoppable even at 38.”
- “Shaq makes everyone else in the league look like Michel Tafoya.”
- Walton: “That has to be a foul.” Snapper: “Against who?” Walton: “Against the game of basketball.”
- “If they ever get this cloning thing right, we can only hope they duplicate the good guys. The last thing we need are more Shawn Bradley’s and Michael Olowokandi’s. Or more people with the attitude of Gary Payton or the confusion of George Karl.”
- “You look at Vladimir Radmanovic, this guy is cut from stone. As if Michelangelo was reading and a lightning bolt flashed before him.”
- “The art of tossing up the jump ball has really declined. These officials need to spend more time practicing in off-season.”
