Deng to GS PG.13 / PG.43 Bulls Say Otherwise

HOUSTON -- Chicago Bulls forward Luol Deng revealed this weekend that he will not be surprised if the Bulls trade him this offseason.

But Deng, 27, did acknowledge that he's not dismissing recent reports suggesting the Bulls are willing to trade him for a top pick in Thursday's NBA draft, with speculation mounting that Chicago could send Deng to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for the No. 7 overall pick.

"I believe there is always to some extent truth behind rumors," Deng said. "But as an athlete, if you get caught up in them, you are really wasting your time because it's not something you can control.

"If it's not true, a GM could always come out and say it's not true. But if a GM doesn't come out and say it, there are probably talks. And there should be. If I was a GM I would be shopping players around too. I've got to show that I'm doing something."

Interesting morsel from @iwhittell: Warriors scout Speedy Claxton at Great Britain practice today in Houston. GSDubs are a Luol Deng suitor

EDIT: They just put up a full article.

Boogy, Ralph, John...any update on who is possibly a frontrunner in acquiring Deng?? Any new rumblings?

I'm glad Deng isn't rattled by the trade rumors. Definitely has matured after the Kobe rumors affected his season. During the exit interviews, GarPax probably gave him a heads up that the Bulls may need to trade him to improve the team

Gah. I wish that Thursday would get here so we can get this trade rumor stuff over with.

I'm at the point, where if it happens then it happens. After being a huge hater of Deng, I've really warmed up to the guy since Thibs became the head coach. He just plays and does as he is asked. Now he is in a really unfortunate position, where no choice is the right one.

If Deng gets traded, I'll still follow him and wish him the best because he hasn't done anything wrong imo. It's just business.

It's unfortunate that Deng is the one the Bulls have to move rather than Boozer. At least they were able to rid themselves of the Ben Wallace contract.

Don't trade Luol unless it's going to be for a top five pick.

Be cool of we could move Deng for a pick in the lotta plus a role player and Booz for Davis and Redick.

With Golden St. having the following draft picks # 7, # 30, # 35 & # 52 and the Bulls wanting to acquire extra picks they look to be good trade partners.

Remember Gar said they been preparing for this draft for years.

I wouldn't look too much into that. Doesn't every draft takes years of preparation?

I agree with you Speedy. That means absolutely nothing...just warm words.

As I've addressed in any threads, I'm feeling stingy with Deng. I would trade him, in general, if it made the team better, but have concerns about most of the rumors that have surfaced so far. One thing, that hasn't been discussed in the pros and cons is exactly who is supposed to guard LeBron if Deng is gone. There are few guys around the league who can got rode by LBJ for 40 minutes, hang on and still put up 15+ PPG, and none of them are easy to acquire.

This article confirms my already high opinion of Deng's character. What a thoughtful guy. I love that he is clear-minded and mature yet also not afraid to be honest about the situation. Selfishly, if he does get traded, I hope he's moved to the Warriors, as I'm a transplanted Chicagoan living in SF, and I've never had any reason to give a flip about the local team. Deng here would get the job done.

I can't believe that idiot Boozer is going to cost us Deng.

The Bulls could save $4M this season and $5M next season if they dealt with the Warriors:

#7, #30, #35, #52 + Biedrins

Biedrins expires in the Summer of 2014 like Deng. Maybe Biedrins could be bought out as well.

Basically if we acquire Biedrins for Deng, we'd be under the tax this year if we cut Watson, Korver, and Brewer.

Personally, I'd rather have Butler defending LeBron. Deng doesn't appear to phase LeBron at all, probably because of a lack of physicality. Guys like Butler who just get all up on you and under your skin are the types that throw him off and get him into 2011 Finals mode.

Now, offensively, ummm... yeah.

Maybe the Bulls can get a Future 1st from the Warriors as well.
