Assuming that the Bulls cannot beat the Heat is just that. An assumption. The Bulls aren't just any team. They are the one Eastern conference team that does appear to get into Miami's head. Some things to consider:
1. During the Thibadeau-era the Bulls are 7-3 against the Heat in the season.
2. Tons of people have tried to rattle Lebron before. To his credit, I have never seen him lose his composure. Yesterday he did. The Bulls got in his head.
3. Spoelstra admitted that some of his players began to cry after the Bulls swept them last season.
4. We've been able to beat the Heat without Rose.
5. We had the most important regular season win in the entire NBA against the most dominant team in the league.
Obviously in the end, the only thing that matters is what happens in the playoffs. But I have an issue with those that just write us off so easily.

I have two issues with those who write us off so easily:
(a) That's why they play the games, as they say.
(b) ITS NOT RELEVANT TO THIS DISCUSSION. NBA players play for two reasons. To try to win, even though they likely won't, because they have dedicated their entire lives to the competitive endeavor. And to satisfy the terms of their super-awesome, nipple hardening contracts.

Sure anything could happen, but it's highly unlikely the Bulls without Rose can beat the Heat in a 7 game series. All your points are valid and slightly move the gap in the Bulls favor, but superior talent also always wins out in the playoffs. Just ask the other 7 post-dynasty Bulls playoff teams. 05 Wizards were more talented (than Bulls minus Deng and Curry), 06 Heat more talented, 07 Pistons more talented, 09 Celtics were more talented (w/o Garnett and Bulls w/o Deng), 10 Cavs were more talented, 11 Heat were more talented. Close call but last year's Sixers were probably more talented than Bulls team without Rose and Noah and gimpy wrist Deng.

fleet, I don't think he meant that he is cancer free. I think he was probably referring to his torn acl. He said he is working hard to gain confidence to play in games, which means he is mentally not yet ready to play in games.

Ugh. The Miami crap again.
I'll just circle around. The Bulls have no shot of ever putting together a team that is, on paper, favorites to beat Miami. If that is the only thing that would make it worth Rose's time to play, then the Bulls should trade him now.
In my opinion, you go for it anyways. Maybe you get lucky and win like Dallas did. Probably not, but IMO, its worth a try. Rose should be playing right now. Its worth it for a very small shot this year, it helps his rehab and it gives management a better feel for where Rose and the team is at for summer moves. Its win, win, win.
The solution that makes no sense to me is to keep Rose in cold storage waiting for the day for Chicago to build a team better than Jordan had around him in the 90's. It ain't happening but that's what Reggie Rose wants as a pre-condition for Rose to play.

Sunday makes the most sense for me. Its against a crappy Pistons team with average to below average guards. Its also at home and the 2nd game of a back to back. Its also their last back to back till April 11th and 12th. So Rose could get into the swing of things and play a full 2 weeks in which every single game is followed by an off day.
Then on the 11th and 12th you could sit him the first game of the back to back or play him the first game and see how he feels before the 2nd game.

Exactly umfan83. I'll go ahead and say it straight... That Sixers team ended up being a LOT more talented when it was all said and done. Jrue and Iguadala were basically the best players on the court each night, and it didn't help that Taj and Asik had to chase Hawes and T. Young to the perimeter instead of staying inside... nor did it help that Turner was swatting Rip left and right and making it look like Senior night at the YMCA. Rose AND Noah being out was just a wee bit too much to handle.

It's good thought, but I imagine Knicks fans said the same thing back in the day when they had Mason, Oakley, and all those goons to throw at Jordan and of course John "Jordan Killer" Starks.
The 7-3 thing is an interesting stat, but it'd be more concerning if I thought Miami tried their hardest in all 10 of those games. They've shown they have a switch and don't play as hard night-to-night. It doesn't have much to do with Rose's recovery. Well, has nothing to do with it. I just don't think we should put it on a pedestal to point to for in the postseason.

fleet, I don't think he meant that he is cancer free. I think he was probably referring to his torn acl. He said he is working hard to gain confidence to play in games, which means he is mentally not yet ready to play in games.
then he goes against doctors protocol regarding healed ACLs. Because the mental progress part comes from playing in games. Dont take it from me. Take it from those who touch you with cold hands.
Lets not be confused though the real Issue is why Rose refuses to get with the program. It cant be comfort with the knee. That is out. Rose knows what the rehab program consists of.

I don't want to call Rose mentally weak. I don't think that is the case.
But in this particular situation, Rose is the first person in modern sports history that I can think of......who hit this spot in his ACL rehab...and basically got stuck at the mental hurdle.
Could Rose go out and play 16 or 17 minutes against Dallas to continue his rehab?
I would think so...
But if he does not, what would the reason be? He isn't mentally ready to play 17 minutes of on court rehabe after a set-back free, 10.5 month rehab period where head had been physically cleared for weeks and weeks?
What do you call that?

Why do people think he is stuck at the mental part ?
The ACL being healthy doesn't mean you don't feel physical discomfort. Playing through that in extreme athletic conditions (NBA games) is one option for rehab, waiting it out and playing through it in milder conditions (practice) is another.

I take one one one 'cause you left me
And two two two for my family
And three three three for my heartache
And four four four for my headaches
And five five five for my lonely
And six six six for my sorrow
And seven seven seven for no tomorrow
And eight eight eight I forget what eight was for
And nine nine nine for a lost god
And ten ten ten for everything everything everything everything
The Femmes are calling Rose's return during the next thread. Lets get a move on people.
