I felt good about Doug's invite until I saw they invited Tim Hardaway Jr too. I guess they were getting desperate for yeses at the end.

I figured Doug got the invite, obviously, based on his talent, but even more so because of Thibs. It will be nice to see McBuckets against that kind of size and talent, even if it is just a practice.

This is going to be awesome! Plumlee boys got the invite. Good for them. I thought for sure the Bulls would take Mason last year. Was stunned when they didn't.

Roster to be pared down to 12 from those 19.
What are they showing? A full practice, a scrimmage, or something more structured with interviews and highlights?
On a different note, I really don't see how Rose should make this roster, unless he is 100%:
Here are my safe bets to be cut: DeRozan, Faried, Parsons; these guys are out just b/c there are too many locks ahead of them. The bold players are sure things.
Curry, Lillard, Rose
Harden, Thompson, Beal, Korver
KD, PG, GH
Love, BG,
CousinsDavis, Drummond one of beal, Hayward or Korver will make the roster for floor spacing. So that leaves one spot:
Rose vs. Lillard
Who will get selected and who deserves to be selected?

Rose will get selected because of the Thibs connection.
Why are you listing Cousins as a PF though ?

If I remember correctly from last time, it was basically a scrimmage game (or two?). It's all live.

these new invites are essentially practice players or scout teams for team usa.

But Doug is a return invitee. He was on the practice squad last time too.

Rose will get selected because of the Thibs connection.

That is true, he is a center. Maybe that opens another slot, keeping 3 centers might be more than international play demands. So maybe Cousins will battle with AD for a slot.
Do you agree with my locks?

Yes, Thibs said he played quite well last time against star NBA talent.
I'm looking forward to seeing Derrick and MC3 next week too. Things are a bit dead now for Chicago sports, while we wait for the Bears to start playing, so at least if Derrick makes the USA team, we'll have several games to watch in August and Sept.

The starting 5 should be:

SG Curry
SF Durant
PF Love
C Davis
Harden should not be in the starting line up. Rose will probably be selected due to name recognition and Thibs but it would be surprising if he was one of the 12 best.

if you have watched team usa in recent yrs, then you can expect a front court to look very different from what you have listed.
team usa only plays 1 "big" at a time for the most part. KD plays the int'l 4, which is more of a 3 in the nba.
love, griffin and AD should suffice as the "big" in the lineup.

Derrick also has tons of respect from coach K and he has something over everyone at his position in that he's been there before as a member of Team USA.

I agree we have played small in the past, but did we have the same quality of bigs as this year? The dream team played a traditional line up and destroyed people.
So you think one of Drummond or Cousins gets cut?

coach k plays speed ball. pressure, scrambling D and open court play. that has been their MO because nobody can stop team usa in transition.
i don't think either drummond or cousins are needed.

If the starting line-up is as Spinninhouse says than Rose should definitely make it as the back up PG.
I agree he will most definitely make the roster due to experience, Thibs and coach K.
So if he doesn't make the team that should be a huge red flag concerning Rose's progress.

Very true, I am stuck thinking in the traditional NBA position framework. I keep forgetting this is international ball and coached by coach K.

that would be a damn shame if derrick made the team because of who he is instead of how he played.
