Lots of great quotes . Gist- we found our shooting guard. Period. Kid can shoot lights out and is fundamentally sound already.
Rose on. McDermmitt "I need him". coach K to Thibbs- "you gonna let him shoot?. Thibbs- "He will shoot"

Brain Windhorst said many league executives think Mc3 can be rookie of the year since he is such a good fit in Chicago. And Brian thinks he eventually will start.

I felt Thibs should have started Korver (more) in 2011/2012, when RIP missed so much time. McD should start, and MDJ perfrom the role he was signed for, backup 2/3.

“He rarely messes up,” said Rose. “He never pushes the issue, I would say. He never tries things he can’t do. He knows exactly what type of play he wants. For me, I need him because you can’t leave him. He has a lot of confidence in his shot, and he works on his shot every day. When I was playing with him while we were back in Chicago, I had to tell him whenever he’s open, I’m passing him the ball and he better shoot or I’m going to yell at him every time. If you can shoot, you can fit in.”

It obviously would be a big step for McDermott, but he’s been taking them each year and improving.

“Being a college guy last year (with the Select Team in a USA camp), I don’t think anyone knew who I was,” said McDermott, who headed for rookie orientation from Las Vegas. “I was getting a lot of open looks. I don’t think they knew I was a shooter. This year guys (on defense) are starting to find me more. They are a lot more physical with me. The biggest takeaway for me is how physical it is and how good they really are.

This man is NBA ready.... he will start

Just then Korver, who also went to Creighton, walked by as McDermott was doing his interviews.

“The real hot sauce,” McDermott said nodding at Korver with a laugh.

Haaaa Killa Kyle Korver....

Nice article...
But...it is kind of a given IMO.

I think MDJ will start the season, but McD will eventually become the starter (New Year or All-star break).

If they start McD from jump, fine by me.

An underrated part of what he will give any lineup he plays in next year:

"Not just shooting. Whether I’m getting the shot or not, I’m getting a lot of attention on the screens because guys view me as a shooter. It leaves open areas for other guys."

That's a huge deal for a team that needs spacing, will potentially have Noah in the high post, and Derrick in the PnR.

I see this happening as well, unless Snell takes some crazy step that nobody is expecting. or we make a trade.

Also, the real impressive thing about the Bulls this year (during the regular season, specifically) will be that second unit:

Hinrich or Brooks
Hinrich or Snell
Mcdermott or Dunleavy
Taj Gibson or Mirotic
Taj Gibson or Mirotic

3 guys on that unit were starters for us last year and played heavy minutes. I realize we won't necessarily be making wholesale substitutions, but two things stand out:

1) We can plug versatile guys in depending on need
2) I think it will be unnecessary for any of our guys, assuming relative team health, to average intense minutes over the course of the season.

Hopefully Thibs has learned his lesson from the Keith Bogans "start at all costs" debacle. Or "1st and 3rd only" Boozer debacle...

Damn....OK...you might be right....

IMO it will all depend on how quickly he picks up Thib's defense. If the looks lost during the preseason, he's gonna sit. I think Rose's endorsement will make a big difference.

This kid looked gassed in the NCAA Tourney.

He's gonna have issues with Thibs practices and getting used to the NBA grind.
He may be getting a lot of hype but I'm not buying it.

Look at him, he's skin and bones. It'll take Bulls trainers a few years to beef him up and build stamina for an 82 game season.

That Creighton team got smoked in the 2nd round by 30.
McDermott could do SQUAT against a Baylor team that decided to shut him down.

We've seen it so many times before with guys that are great shooters in college then relaize the NBA is a league of the best of the best.

This guy is not better than Dunleavy, if he is then Dunleavy needs to retire ASAP.

Doug says he can play the 4 spot! So that gives us Pau, Taj, Niko, and Doug at PF. We have three teams' worth of PFs, it seems.

Yeah OK Thibs won't take him up on that offer.
