Why are we starting Dunleavy over Doug Mcdermott?

What is the reason for this? Seniority? Wanting to fall behind games? You want below average defense from a 34 year old player?

Doug Mcdermott is the future! He would better off with the starters and he would get better shots with Derrick Rose then Arron Brooks. When Doug catches on he will take the pressure off of Rose and maybe be that number 2 scorer we need. He rebounds better then Dunleavy.

Where is the upside for starting Dunleavy? None I think!

ESPN analyst Doug Collins thinks the Bulls should start Doug McDermott.

"When you had (Doug) McDermott out there, when you had him out there with (Nikola) Mirotic, two rookies; you had Aaron Brooks, who was a new guy; you had Taj (Gibson) out there; and you had Kirk Hinrich,” Collins noted. “So I thought they were struggling to find who they needed to be. I'd go on record and say I feel like at the end of the day, if somehow Doug McDermott can be a starter, I think he's going to get better shots with that starting unit being out there with Pau Gasol and with Derrick Rose. And it's not going to depend so much on Jimmy Butler having to make as many shots."

He has to prove he deserves it over Dunleavy. In preseason he didn't really show he could bring something Dunleavy doesn't already bring to the starting lineup. Maybe when Doug shows Thibs he's ready he can get the starting spot.

What rememberLu said. As for good, rational reasons, there aren't any.

Cuz Dunleavy's currently better and already has chemistry goin with Butler, Noah and Taj.

Doug Collins was a terrible coach in Philly so I'll trust Thibs on this one.

He really doesn't. There are lots more reasons to start McDirty, and have Dunleavy's vet presence on the bench, than just who is playing better right now.

What does Doug Collins know? Thibs is da coach of da Bulls aka the best team in NBA history. Doug Collins is a media analyst because nobody wants to hire him.

Nah I'm just kidding, i basically agree with him. Doug looks a hell of alot more deadly playing with Rose than coming off the bench. But I also agree with Proven_Winner, Doug really hasn't outplayed Dunleavy in preseason.

Dunleavy is much taller 6'10 to 6'7 and half

To thibs he HAS to. Preseason he didn't show that he deserved it. Just because you can find more reasons he should start doesn't mean it's written in stone that he would be a better starter. With that said I want Doug to start, but I also understand why he doesn't. All you can do is hope that he proves he's ready to take t from Dunleavy who is probably very willing to give it up.

Doug would help his cause if he could make a freaking shot. Which I assume he will at some point, and shortly after that he will start.

Wouldn't Doug get more open looks with Rose then Brooks? Then he would be hitting more shots.

Because Doug kinda sorta sucked during pre-season?

When Doug gets more comfortable with the NBA, he will (hopefully) get the start.

Even when he was getting open shots with Rose we wasn't knocking them down. He played 25mpg so he played a good amount with Rose at times. In the end he shot 35%FG and something like 22%3PT. I think he will get better and I want him to start, but when you look at those numbers there is no way you can't see why he isn't starting now. But luckily for Doug he's pretty much the only other SF and Thibs likes him so he will get a good amount of minutes. In those minutes he needs to bring more of that summer league Doug and show that he needs to be in the starting lineup.

He'd get more attempts maybe, but he shot mostly open looks iirc. So apart from increasing the sample size it wouldn't necessarily increase shooting efficiency.

Don't you be splitting up my team of Captain Pump-Fake and Clank!

Doug is rushing his shot. Game needs to slow down for him. He'll get plenty of run with the starters, even if he doesn't start.

Neither player starts on a team serious about winning a championship this season. Pick your poison: unproven rookie or past prime role player
