The Gerald Green Thread

Since the KMart thread getting serious hits, I'm noticing a trend is that people don't want to give up much for Martin. This is where my other favorite for trading comes into play, Green.

Averaged almost 16 points last year, plays great with the kind of Point Guard we have, and gives us some 3 point shooting as well as transition buckets.

But most importantly..........

http://www.rantsports.com/nba/2014/10/3 ... ald-green/

http://fansided.com/2014/10/14/phoenix- ... ald-green/

Compared to other players who we want to steal from their team, Phoenix just can't keep Green. With them picking up Isiah, its clear Green is out the door.

So how do you guys, especially those against trading for Martin, feel about going after Green?

I like Green, he's a prolific shooter and is obviously an athletic phenom. However, his sub-par, albeit short, stint with Indiana, makes me wonder whether he's skills won't be able to be as effective in our offensive system/tempo as they are in Phoenix.

We have less transition, and a lot of that transition is a 1 man DRose coast to coast. As long as Kirk's running the backup point, I'm not sure we'll be able to maximise Green's athleticism, because in the half court the majority of his game is jump shooting.

That said, still an excellent player and less of a defensive liability than Green. It all comes down to the asking price, but it just feels like Martin is an easier/cheaper get than Green at this point. If he becomes a real option for a good price I'm all for it.

I'll let this remain open for now, but I don't really want a bunch of threads with fantasy trades.

The Martin one has value given reports that we were linked to him. Not sure about this one.

I'll leave it open for now, but I don't want a thread about every single SG in the league popping up without unsubstantiated info in the back ground.

I will pick a side on this and say I would definitely take gerald green at the right price. Green can hit the 3 and he will push this team to move it in transition. No way are you going to slow down when you have gerald green running. He also adds a more reliable wing guy to the bench.

Well ther was report saying that Chicago and 2 other teams could go after Green since PHX has a plethora of wings. In the past we also were linked to him when we almost got him in FA before Indiana offered him that contract.

I think Martin and Green are the main two options we've been looking at, well not including Aaron Affalo cause I think Denver isn't letting him go. Green apparently was really interested in us 2 years ago, but I guess the numbers didn't work.

I think we could potentially get Green without having to give up Dunleavy.

Something like Snell, Moore, Bairstow and a 2nd for Green would work.

I also no longer want to trade for a traditional SG (unless they are legit all-star caliber) because I really like the mismatch that Jimmy provides for us at that position because of his size. He is big for a SG. But at the SF position, he is actually undersized a bit.

Snell and a 2nd for Ben. Giving up anything else would not be worth it. Hell giving that 2nd might be too much seeing as he has shown as much as Snell has.

The only problem with the Gerald Green and Aaron Afflalo's of the world is that they are expiring deals. So giving up an asset for someone you're not going to have long term is kind of silly imho. I'd want someone on a longer term deal. Its clear with all of our deals expiring and deteriorating health that's our window.

Ben is pretty terrible though. Not sure if you've been watching him, but he clearly is not an NBA starter and right now, I'm not sure if he's even rotation worthy.

Agree with you there, but the other thing is there's probably less good SF's available than SG's, especially if we're looking for shooting/scoring/creating.

That's fine, and it's why I'll leave it open.

But, I'm just concerned that we will be ravaged with threads about trading for any randoms, tis all.

Isn't that what we want though? Someone to just give us some temporary aid until Doug can permanently fill the spot?

I wanted a higher level scorer who could do it for 2-3 years. Jimmy's gone after this year. Doug will be the starting SF next year.

Personally, no, I don't want a stop gap, I want a solution.

The question that requires a solution, for me, is that scoring wing off the bench. That's where Green comes in.

He is in the right age bracket to be with this team for a few years and brings skills we have very little of.

Butler and McDermott are our starting wings of the future, but we need a consistent filler on the bench, and not someone we just chop and change with every off season.

Whether we get Green this season or not, it doesn't really bother me. He is one of many candidates for the MLE that I have, though.

A deal similar to what Nikola is one is a win for all parties, assuming Thibodeau can stand his game, which is questionable.

There is zero indication that Butler won't be here next season. If anything, the reverse seems more applicable.

Exactly...Who knows what Snell would have done in an uptempo system where there was no Thibs/no pressure of the playoffs. As I said in the Snell thread, there would have been multiple threads asking to trade for Snell.

This is all just pure fantasy.
